This is such a great interview from start to finish, thanks so much for posting it! To hear Geddy get a bit choked up near the very end just drove home the point for me how dedicated, humble and appreciative that man is, not only as a musician but as a person in general. The same can be said for Alex, of course. God bless them both.

Would've been so cool to have them do a quick tune with Alex on acoustic -- maybe "Closer to the Heart". Would have brought the house down. Also, interesting, not one word about Neil, about possible future Alex/Geddy collaboration, about (God forbid) the possibility of a future one-off Rush show with the 3 of them? I'm sure the audience was told those types of questions would NOT be entertained... Love these guys, love Rush!!

Great talk and I agree with the comment about the peanut gallery in the background, so annoying. I think the second concert I went to was Rush on the 'farewell to kings ' tour with Max Webster opening. I think I paid 9 bucks for my ticket and I was just blown away. The next shows were moving pictures, signals, grace under pressure, roll the bones, clock work angels. But I have to admit that the moving pictures, signals and clock work angels were my favorite. I was in such awe of their ability to make to do it live. Like Dave Grohl said it was about fucking time.

Wait...what? No "bla bla bla" this time Lerxst? I could listen to these guys talk shop all day long. So funny with the bribe joke. I loved Geddy's profound statement. 26:49 "Failing to sound like your heroes sends you in a direction combined with your own personality that gives you your sound" So true for any artist. We all have our heroes we try to emulate, but in the end, it's the heroes PLUS our own gifts that bring us the true creative end result.

It is interesting that the RRHOF went from being indifferent to Rush, to being highly invested in them as evidence of the RRHOF's legitimacy. This was presaged by Rolling Stone's similar move back when Vapor Trails came out. It was almost as if that horrible period in the late 90's made them Rush legitimate to the R&R orthodoxy. Of course, that's probably not the case. What is more likely is that as X-generation bands reached Hall Of Fame eligibility, the absence of the progressive bands in the hall became a thorn in the side of RRHOF's claims of legitimacy. When you have younger bands getting in, and openly saying that they consider the honor to be questionable because of the absence of bands important to the development of X-Gen bands, it becomes a PR problem. I note how the RRHOF edited the induction speech for Yes, to remove Geddy Lee's statement that this was "righting a horrible wrong". RRHOF has become the epitome of the corporate entity that they purport to oppose... The presence of Rush in the hall, and participating in events like this, and the curation of the bass exhibit, certainly helps RRHOF with its legitimacy problem. They need to get the other progressive organizations in there though. King Crimson and ELP are foundational influences for many of the bands already in the RRHOF. Arthur Brown should be in there as well. Time to get these people in there. They are heroes. On the other side of the pond, they were the resistance against the evil tide of DISCO!

Hearing, and at some level, feeling the passion from Geddy is just another link in the chain that I have developed in a one way connection to the members of Rush. Alex has always been so funny. He's such a jokester, and I would love to sit down and have a beer with these guys at their local pub. Alex's comment about writing his own book about guitar being too much work, and he would rather just play them was classic. I love these guys. Whatever they decide to do with the rest of their lives is great with me. They have been so generous with all that they have shared, from their hearts, that I want them to just be happy with whatever they decide to do. Blablabla blablabla blablabla blablabla blablabla blablabla blablabla blablabla blablabla blablabla, blablabla.
