VisualArq is a great tool for Architects who want to enhance their Rhino functionality by introducting BIM - like tools to the workflow! It also makes Rhino able to read Archicad and Revit files (though IFC format).

I’ve been using VA for 2-3 years. Work in set design in film & tv and while I often work with organic shapes, the section and levels functionality alone have justified the price. We work fast and incorporation of these tools makes a huge difference

I'd used VIsualArQ a few times and I find its automatic sections and plan views extremely useful.. even without using the bim styled objects.. just plain rhino geometry. You can save hours and hours. of "making 2d views" and "section"... (And they add some custom viewstyles to rhino also.. ).. Just great even without using BIM

there actually are a few preset objets/styles, but you need to use a visualarq template to use them. one thing i found really cool about it is it's integration with grasshopper, not only can you create stuff like walls from grasshopper, you can also parametrically define objects like colums or furniture with grasshopper the same way you use the family editor in revit. and last but not least, the menu were you set the levels of the building is really handy for modelling, it handels you cplane and clipping plane at the same time and basically allows you to use rhino like the 2d-views of revit.

(I hate how you model things in Revit - it makes all spaces so much more "stacked like pancakes" if that makes sense..) but with that out of the way - all things that you noted are really great to know. I'm adding a heart to your message to have it above the rest. Also now when you say it - it does make sense that the preset styles would be packaged inside of a template rather than the plugin itself. Still would be pretty hard to even think about checking it for a beginner.

@@DesignGoBrr probably You are right ;] maybe varq is not perfect (like varq users community) but its helpful. I saved a lot of time with this plugin and i cant wait for version 3. the cool thing but only when You are doing documentation in rhino is that You can set every section/view/etc to layout and You can add dimms directly on layout so You dont have to create and nest 2d layouts. and somehow 2d layouts can have ugly curves, exploded, or unfinshed lines while your views set on layout include 100% objects. But usually at work i have to give a autocad file so the 2d exports always look like $hit in autocad because it will be splajn or explodede polylines with many many points and icant do to much with that while in rhino polyline was build with lets say 5 or 6 points (2 joined arcs) ehh. have You tested plugin/app like this? speckle.systems/tag/rhino/ i am wondering maybe that can export polylines like i would like them to see in acad. if i understand correctly its something like rhino inside revit but for autocad?

Hi, Thank you for the great video. Does Rhino form your entire software workflow in your practice or you use Revit as well? If you use any BIM software, do you see VisualARQ replacing it?
@DesignGoBrr
@DesignGoBrr Жыл бұрын
I do use Revit from time to time - but most of the work that I do is indeed contained in Rhino (my collogues are working 50% Rhino and 50% ArchiCAD though, so it's a matter of preference.) For me personally VisualARQ drops the need for external BIM software almost to 0 (our engineers who use Revit/ArchiCAD would still insist that we use the models in native BIM formats, but that applies only for large-scale buildings)

Hello, thanks for the video. Since last year i'm looking for some plug-in to generate interior design documentation. Do you think that it is worth to use? Every plan, section or carpenter's documentation i made by command "make2d". could it be game changer? Im not talking about presentation (visualization, material variants), just about documetation. Thanks a lot
@DesignGoBrr
@DesignGoBrr Жыл бұрын
You'll need to spend a bit of time learning how to use it properly (which of course makes sense) , but once that's done and you've found the level of "integration" that works best for you - I think it will speed up your design documentation process at least by 1.5x (honestly I think it's closer to 2x) , so yes - I do think it's worth it. But definitely use the 90-day free evaluation version first, before spending any money. You need to make sure that you "vibe" with the new workflow.

Sorry I basically know nothing about BIM software, this question may sound stupid, does visualARQ work in a similar way with rhino inside revit?
@DesignGoBrr
@DesignGoBrr Жыл бұрын
Hmmm - technically if you just look at the functionality - there are quite a few similarities in the way you work with the two plugins/addons. Basically Rhino.Inside.Revit doesn't really introduce any additional functionality on Rhino side, but rather makes a real-time bridge between your Rhino model and Revit model. So all BIM related stuff happens in Revit. With VisualARQ - all "BIM" stuff happens inside of Rhino, so it's fully contained and there technically is no need for any additional external software (at least for small/medium scale architecture)

It has same limitations as any other BIM software such as Archicad or Revit - standartized/typical architectural geometries are easy to make and documentation of them is straight forward, but the moment you want to do something a bit more... non cartesian - it starts becoming a hassle. I'd say I use VisualARQ for 20-30% of my work, the rest is handled by just Rhino+Grasshopper

For example is use; Ameba for Topology optimization, then Peregrine for Structural optimization wich is the same as Ameba but more refined towards structures, and if you put VisualARQ on top, it will be to much for independants i think. @DesignGoBrr
@DesignGoBrr Жыл бұрын
For students it's actually 95 USD , but if you're a professional, working as an architect - no, I'd argue that 800 USD should not destroy your budget. If it does, the question would be - how can you afford Rhino in the first place (1000 USD) ? And just for sake of the pricing argument - Revit (7625 USD/3years), Autocad (5315 USD / 3years) or ArchiCAD (2250 USD / 1 year).
@shynnsup8383
@shynnsup8383 Жыл бұрын
@@DesignGoBrr I was thinking more of an individual/freelancer rather than an architecture studio. $800 is a big load of money for most people, specially for freelancers. Or even people who have a full-time job. I don't know if mentioning even pricier stuff is a good argument to say something is cheap. But sure, a Ferrari is worth millions, so not sure how any car below that can wreck your wallet. Moreover, I don't think comparing Rhino to VisualARQ is fair. For only 200$ less I would expect VisualARQ to do everything Rhino can do, basically be a program on its own. When it basically does things a GH def can already do. Basically, Rhino enables you do stuff instead of drawing on paper for $1000. You can create stuff and get your money back with it. Visual Arq enables you to speed up a little only 1% of what Rhino can do for 80% of its price? No thanks. I rather buy another Rhino license and pay someone else, maybe in Rupees.
@DesignGoBrr
@DesignGoBrr Жыл бұрын
@@shynnsup8383 Catia would be the Ferrari - the software that I listed is more of a Honda Civic. Either way - that's besides the point. I see what you're trying to convey - and I do agree with parts of it. It really depends on the amount of work that you need to cram in a work day. If you're a freelancer, who has a single client at any given time and does not need to rush - then clearly you do not see the need for this type of addon. At the same time, you're most likely not generating enough money to make the purchase "not hurt". But if you have numerous projects running at the same time, squeezing every minute out of the day - then cutting the design documentation time in half is a life-saver. Coincidentally - then the price tag is not scary. What I'm saying is - it will not break the wallet for those who actually can get a use out of this addon.

@@DesignGoBrr It depends on where you work Gediminas, here the highest salary for an architect is about 619 USD, not the mention the juniors. So I basically just bought the Rhino student license when I was a student and thanked god it can also be used for commercial work.
@DesignGoBrr
@DesignGoBrr Жыл бұрын
@@NonLethalGhost naturally the purchase strength of people fluctuates between countries. The question is - where would you, as a developer position your products pricing? According to Switzerland purchasing power, according to Congo's purchasing power? Perhaps an average then? Average of every country or the ones that statistically use Rhino more than Autocad/Sketchup? "What is too expensive" becomes a very blurry question very quickly
