Heh... in the 20 years I've been a DM, I've only thrown two chest mimics, a bookshelf mimic, and a wall mimic (a mimic that just blocked off a little niche, so I guess it could be considered a "secret door" mimic) at various players. Still have yet to use the actual door mimic, though. :)

What makes others dislike mimics so much?

+Bunny Rabbit Mimics are creatures built to specifically target unprepared or impulsive low-level adventurers (sometimes mid-level, in the right circumstances). Even for the cautious, they still can be a pain to fight since anything touching them - including melee weapons - has a chance of getting stuck (they produce a strong adhesive). They are generally considered to be a "dick move" on the part of the DM, especially if placed in particularly deadly rooms or areas (i.e. traps or other creatures) or a particularly tough environmental situation). EDIT: I love these types of creatures and encounters because it keeps the players on their toes.

That's not true, they're first time at Vasselheim Matt told them that the town is the main producer of healing potion in the world. They decided by themselves that if the town don't like arcane magic that must mean no potions

If I recall, they barely even tried in Ank'Harel. I think they got potions for free from the guards. But when they went back later, they didn't even try shopping at this huge mecca of trade. /facepalm. The only place they ever try to buy potions is one of the worst places, retail in Vasselheim. Most of the world's healing potions are produced there, so maybe they should be talking to the temples and buying direct.

i hate to point it out because travis is so good about never meta gaming. but i felt like the moment where he instantly wanted to go full on homicidal was pretty meta. he had no reason to know how bad of an idea attacking the guards could go because last time they had a brawl in the street, it ended up ok. it wasnt until after the episode, out of character that matt told them had the guard not had his memory wiped they would have had thousands come down on their heads.

Right? Whenever Matt goes into a monologue or is ready to go into anything long, Travis perks right up. For instance at 1:26:10 or so, when Vord says this will be a longer discussion, Travis looks genuinely pleased to hear what's next. ... and the one I remember most is when they found Tiberius in Draconia (ep 64). At the very end of Matt's closing comments, Travis had this smile on his face like he was just totally in awe.

What i like about Tary vs Scanlan is that where Scanlan was purposefully fulfilling a comic relief role, making people laugh and smile with quips and songs, Tary is funny by virtue of his own clumsy personality. Hes not misunderstood like Scanlan because of his big smile, he just is who he is.

Grog maybe be dumb but he certainly tricked Tary and isn't saying anything about it here. Tary through up on the guard quite deliberately at least as far as directing it and they didn't have to stay to begin with. They brought trouble to the location and leaving was certainly within their control. So now that I've debunked your objections could you not insist that your point of view is abject truth? It looks bad so I don't want to see this kind of bullshit. But you insist on characterizing my taste as a personality flaw. It isn't so don't be a dick.

I started watching Critical Role for 2 reasons. 1. To hopefully pick up some ideas on how to be a better GM from watching Mercer work And 2. I saw an animation of that part with the shop and the guards and I NEEDED TO KNOW THE ENTIRE SERIES OF EVENTS THAT LED TO THAT and I must say I am not disappointed.

You won't learn better DMing from Matt. You will learn better story telling. Matt lets them get away with too much metagaming, abuse of magic items and abuse of effects. He also gives them "Plot Armor" 99% of the time or the series wouldn't have made it past episode 3. (they didn't have revivify/resurrect or the money to pay for it) This is really good Soap opera.... not so good D&D. Last episode he let them pry a gem out of a helm of brilliance and use it. The item description specifically says that prying a gem out destroys the gem... it becomes dust. Then he obviously cut the damage from the Kracken.... and he had a deity of death aid in a resurrection, repeatedly. Sorry, that deity would not help with anythng other than making the transition less scary.

Sorry for spoilers but Matt's ability to paint pictures with just his words is unreal. By that I mean there are times I don't believe that he has come up with this. I love watching this show because of each of the others, although I do enjoy it more when Pike is around, however almost every episode I am blown away by his creativity (the speech at the end) and his willingness to let his players do whatever they want (in the shop). Thank you everyone involved with this amazing show. Please never stop playing or helping others to play this amazing game we all love.

With the approval of Matt, Tarry could probably make a Helm of Comprehending Languages, but instead of it being a helm, it's glasses. And instead of being able to hear languages and have to touch words in a book to understand what it says, it's the other way around and he can read any languages but when someone speaks it, if he were to learn to read lips, he'd understand them.
