I feel like they're necessary because any kind of camera/studio lighting naturally makes skin look more smooth than it actually is unless you're really zoomed in. That's why thumbnails from foundations that look horrible on me even look good. Distance and good lighting can work wonders - which is fine except when they goal is to show the actual true appearance of a product 🤣

Cricket sounds are something I associate with August, not November. Loved hearing them. Thank you for this review. MAC F&B old formula is one of my favorites, but I'm still working on it as I have many foundations that I enjoy. But now I know this reformulation will probably work for me, too. I like serum foundations for the natural glow they give. Sure I can add a highlighter but on almost 80 year old skin, a natural glow for daytime looks best IMO.

That bronzer is awesome. It looks like it’s shading, which is what it’s supposed to do. When I was young, we didn’t do “bronzers”. We did contour. That’s what we called it. Went to the same places as bronzers today, except most bronzers today are ridiculous. This one is perfect. It does the job, but you can’t see it doing the job. Awesome!

Hello, you know, I live in Chile and I have always taken my foundation decisions into account based on your recommendations, because I have dry skin like you, you describe the foundations very well, I am 46 and if you approve of it and I like the finish, I will think about buying it. , I have the original Mac face and body and the L'Oréal serum foundation, the one with the dropper, because I saw your full review and I don't have any more makeup bases. Happy Birthday! You'd have been a year behind me in high school, definitely one of the Juniors I'd have deigned to hang out with Senior year. A-MAZE-ing foundation here, it really stands up to the daylight check-in. Those shades look a bit warm to my eye for neutrals; perhaps if I try this I'd go for an N. And that blush? Invisible on the skin, no color-shifting or fading after 8 hours, no wonder you keep reaching for it. P.S. My 6-month-old kitten Enzo loves to watch you--first of all he curled up on my lap to watch; then when I paused the video he REACHED OUT HIS PAW and hit the space bar again to re-start the video! Be advised that it's the second time he has done this with one of your review videos.

Since their finishes are different I wouldn’t directly compare them. Equal quality but I’d pick Haus if I wanted a more dewy look and Dior for a more matte look.

Happy belated birthday, Shelly! I have a question: if you had to choose only one foundation, which one would you choose from these favorite of yours: Dior F&B, Nars Light Reflecting, Guerlain Terracotta or Haus Lab? Remember, only one!

It would be tough, as Haus has become an everyday work-wear for me. Nars and Guerlain have both stood up to very humid travel. And Dior is fantastic for long-wear events. They all have their place :) but if I could only pick one, I'd go by my preferred finish on an everyday basis, which would eliminate the Dior (I don't wear matte anywhere near as often as I wear dewy). Then it would be between Nars and Guerlain as they scored just a smidge higher than the Haus. And between those two, I'd probably go with Guerlain for its mind-blowing smoothing, but that's setting aside the phenomenal wear of the Nars. But I don't need the extra wear as often as I need the exceptional smoothing, so Guerlain wins.

It's way up there in my favorites with the only downside being I don't reach for a matte finish as often as I reach for the others which are more dewy. I'm in a dewy phase :)

I haven't tried any Cle De Peau yet, but I do have the Lisa Eldridge Seamless Skin (and it is lovely - scored an A) - kzbin.info/www/bejne/d5LVlJmgppKXq9U You might end up liking the Dior Forever Glow - it scored an A with me too and at least with their last handful of releases, I've been able to wear Dior with no problems. They do really well with my skin, even the mattes (which is rare for me).

Just as a tangent about Dior: they are *constantly* changing their logo, which is no big deal for makeup but can make their bags and belts look dated sooner than they should, I don’t like that tactic personally even though I love the romantic history of Dior from a fashion perspective. You have the most lovely skin. I swear, I thought you were in your twenties. I am 44, and I can see these tiny lines and I hate it so much. I am trying to embrace, but it is hard. I have this incredibly oily T zone area, like teenager quality, and the rest is normal to dry. :/ So, it is a pain to figure out what to buy. Thank you!! Have you tried any bakuchiol products? I'm actually debating canceling my tretinoin prescription/subscription and seeing if I have any sort of "back-slide" using bakuchiol instead. It needs more research but what's out there is quite promising in its similarity to what retinols can do, and I get no irritation at all from it (where I still get occasional peeling from tretinoin even though I've been using it for years).

I'd choose based on finish since they're a bit different from each other. Quality is right up there but Guerlain is more dewy where this Dior is more matte - so it would depend what I wanted to wear. The Guerlain is also more heavily perfumed if that plays a role (it doesn't bother me).
