Bingo. The CIS was, quite simply, superior in terms of numbers and firepower. Other valid logic aside, the entire war was a play by Palpatine to assume total control of the Republic, destroy the Jedi and form the Empire. One of the separatist was the Banking Guild (which makes you wonder where the Republic got its money for the war). And with any bank you have a bean counter looking at the return of investments. Realistically, the more effective droids would also be more expensive. And if you look at the return of investment, these more effective droids would have a lesser return because they were used primarily as security for high profile locations. I would argue sniper's would have been much more effective for the CIS. The amount of clone commanders and officers we see especially those on the battlefield gives the snipers a whole scope of targets to choose from. You can program a tactical or even a commando droid in a short amount of time while a Clone commanders or officer takes years to be trained. Sure it could be countered by Clone officers getting stronger armor to protect themselves but the droids could simply increase the power of the rifle.
@ryanvasquez29143 жыл бұрын
We can thank Palpatine for that
@FalconWindblader3 жыл бұрын
The thing is that the clones have gotten so cohesive that they could still put up a good fight without a commander being around. While some clones do fare better at leadership than the others, the stuff that made them so good at doing so are picked up in the field, instead of being learned back in Kamino. With that said, having one commander down pretty much only means having another take his place in a matter of days.
@Furonanator139 Жыл бұрын
Yes plus there is a big difference between the two armies, the clones love each other. Not to say the droids were incapable of comradery but the CIS programmed them to be as restricted in sentience as possible while still performing their role so a downed commander would just have the next in line step in like it was nothing. With the clones though most of them look at each other as brothers and seeing them fall especially the best among them will wear down their spirit. Heck that was the design of the war anyway, to wear down the spirits of the Jedi and the galaxy

the wall of death had another perk thats less obvious, its scary as fuck. not like droids are scary themselves, especially to clones, but the wall of death is a parade style march relatively slow of droids, who canonically explode upon death too (really hard to animate so they dont bother in the movies or shows) which means killing one could take out his neighbors too. yet they did it anyways despite it being about the highest loss deployment method possible. thats because the clones knew it was wasteful and thus knew the CIS could afford to waste droids where the GAR was usually short on men. In season six of clone wars we see a whole battalion is like thirty clones, fifty max, apperantly. or at least three jedi wanted to capture a giant planet sized facility with that few clones (Anakin gives reinforcements to compensate heavy losses to another general. those reinforcements are ten clones only. they got by with few men apparently). So imagine you have a hundred men and you see the enemy slowly marching their thousands at you in an obviously exposed position they must know will cost them many many droids, what would be going through an average clones head? probably "i have a bad feeling about this" or some kind of hopeless fear. either way its demoralizing to the any army to know their adversary can throw away troops like that

Honestly there's a lot to consider in the case of how to defeat republic forces, for one considering the fact that the clones are the superior fighting machines over B1s, but also considering the fact they're usually led by a jedi. One thing I know for sure is I'd want B1 assassins on practically every hilltop covering each other's line of sight in order to take out the jedi, which would make it a far more conventional battle. If you take out the jedi or make them retreat, you can start thinking about how to focus as much fire onto the clones as you can. You'd want some special units like commando droids patrolling the high ground, seeing as ambushes from above seem to be one of the republic's most favorite tactics.

I could have answered this question with one statement. The dark lord of the sith didn't want either side to win the war because he needed a long protracted war to implement his plan of galactic conquest.
@dreamingflurry27293 жыл бұрын
It probably (at least in universe) comes down to Sidious not wanting the CIS to win too much, otherwise the war might have slipped out of his control. I mean droidekas could have easily been upgraded with better legs to be able to walk on sand and such and maybe even a repulsor-unit to prevent them from easily being force-pushed, if you added some better weapons and maybe some phrik or cortosis-weave (to protect them while rolling!), then you have a jedi-killer on your hands (which could of course be turned on the sith, too!)! Sniper-Droidekas could have been used to overwhelm weaker Jedi at long range, droids with shields would have over all been tougher to kill, while still being able to be made a lot faster than clones (clones need to grow, even with growth-acceleration (which also makes them age faster later on, so it is a trade off), not to mention that they need training (even with flash-learning, which is quite dangerous, too as it can damage the brain!))...hell, if the CIS went all out, the Jedi might have once again have had to utilize techniques they forgot about (sometimes deliberately, because of dogma...hell, they might have had to teach everybody ELECTRIC JUDGEMENT, which is a Jedi-Version of Force Lightning!), like Droid-Destruction Force Power! Hell, they might have looked into battle meditation, to boost the clones even more (and which would make even some badly trained Rebell forces - yes, the first Rebells were badly trained (if at all! Many were cannon fodder basically) - into an army, with a single Jedi there to utilize battle meditation, which basically turns living beings into a something akin to a hive mind or a fully networked droid army!)

I think another part of the reason is how TCW portrays the CIS as mostly marching columns of B1s armed with E-5s, when expanded content like Star Wars Legion has the average squad of B1 Battledroids carrying 2 or so heavy weapons, using genuine tactics, and Battlefront 2 has a variety of weapons that B1s can be equipped with as well.

I feel like the Wall of Death strategy may have been one more motivated by the corporate leadership of the CIS than any potential tactical value. In most situations you want heavy armor to lead your charges as those units can shrug off small arms fire and take out priority targets before the lighter more vulnerable infantry come in to actually secure the area and mop up anything the armor missed. With the droid army though I can see even entire platoons of B1s being cheaper than a single AAT and with casualties being a non issue it's simply more cost effective to lead with the most disposable and cheapest unit.

As far as I could tell; reading into the lore from Republic Commando forwards and throughout the Clone Wars; Rise of the Empire and the Galatic Civil War Periods. CIS droids were superior in nearly every respect to clones; save for their independent thinking. Clone casualties in the Clone War; Storm Troopers, Rebels and Zann Consortium Forces all took heavy casualties against droids; even the overpowered and highly well equipped (albeit illegally) Zann Consortium struggled to take over a droid factory. The largest reasons why the CIS didn't employ greater methods was because Emperor Palpatine was running the show. In addition the CIS were also not as well unified as they seemed; they were dozens of independence groups working together, but that didn't mean they all liked it. I imagine price tags for cheap items were exorbitant; and even expensive items were difficult to make because one group wanted way more credits than the tech was worth.

Actually, I’d like to know which tactics that, though rare, were used repeatedly. From the episode Rookies, how often were Commando droids deployed like Republic Commandos? And more…
@Just_Lars3 жыл бұрын
Well, the thing with all Commando Operations (at least in Star Wars) is, that they followed two targtes: Take out high value personal, or conquer/destroy critical infrastructer to prepare an attack. The thing is, especially the CIS had very few of those. There is no point in kiling Governeurs or Senators, because it doesn't do anything for the war. Same with bases or outposts: sure, you might conquer one, but why putting so much effort into something that can be archived by a surprise Attack by ordinary droids too. In the end, while the republic used their commandos for stuff like scouting, sabotage of factorys and so on, commando droids replaced Droidekas in guard dutys or where simply used as Jedi killers (a job Magna guards were better at) because most CIS Commanders rarely ever had use for them. They were too expensive to be deployed in mass numbers, while the the republic hadn't any big facilities worth destroying aside from maybe Kamino, a few hospital stations and Coruscant itself. What they were actually really good at was using civilian infrastructure and civilians themselves to their advantage. The seperatist leadership knew, that the Republic never would attack at the risk of civilian casulties, so a repeated strategy (with great success) was, to put up their Operation bases in big cities with many civilians. That way the enemy was forced to CQC-Combat, were the droids could use there mass numbers undisturbed by heavy fire. Another evry effective strategy was blockading planets to force the local government to surrender. Sure, it took some time but since most ships were manned by droids, it wasn't personal intense and the GAR couldn't fight anywhere at the same time, they needed to focus power to break one. And when theere where dozens of blockades all over the galaxy, you can imagine that it was a figth against windmills.

Just put them in the front lines to absorb most of what's coming your way and that rly should do it in most battles, maybe put some on high priority troops if need be. With those numbers it's not about getting no losses but losses you can calculate and take without having to worry about it.

In the battle of christophsis, when the wall of death split up, rather than staying in standard formation, it worked so well. This could have been in the video and the separatists could have used it repeatedly without much fracture.

I think that Papa Palp didnt allow shields etc to be used on droids because then the CIS would have become too powerful and that would risk the republics final Victory, which Palpy needed to create his empire

I'd like to think somewhere in a galaxy there's a ruined city that's still populated with separatist snipers and the only reason why the city was never rebuild was because after 50+ years of the galaxy changing those remaining droids continued to kill any organic thinking they were clones. It'd make a good book I think.

why not slightly stagger the droids in the wall of death so the second road can fire as well as the first.

The one thing I always wondered. I’m the later seasons when we see Commando Droids, why are they always Commando Droid Captains and never the regular ones? Like when Rex, Anakin, and Fives went to save Tup, we see only Commando Droid Captains and not regular ones. Is it because Captains are more competent and they didn’t want to use normies or is this something I’m thinking to hard about?

That’s probably the animators being lazy and using one model of commando droids

Droidekas can only deploy their shields when they are stationary and not rolling. Therefore, shields would have been useless on something like droid commandos who rely on their agility as their greatest feat.

Also it seems like droidekas are best deployed in close quarters environments. They can deploy very quickly and shut down enemy movements with rapid fire. It doesn’t seem very sensible to deploy them in an open environment where they could easily be outmaneuvered or quickly taken out with heavy ordinance from vehicles or RPS-6’s. When comparing the costs to their effectiveness in different environments it makes sense to not see them very often in battles with massive armies in the open.

A tactic that should have been used alongside the wall of death is the use of independent armoured units swinging wide around the enemy flanks. With a wall of death marching at your front and an armoured pincer coming at your flanks or even your rear, moral would drop.

While it´s obviously way to inefficient to equip every mere B1 or B2 Battledroid with a PSG, it still doesn´t make much sense why they wouldn´t use them on the more expensive and thus less expendable models like Magnaguards or Elite-Battledroids, especialy since the Magnaguards are primarily designed for CQC and have to close the distance to their target without beeing hit by blasterfire. Most CoS Leaders are buisnessmen. They should realize it´s cheaper and more efficient to spend more on the Droids to increase their durability in combat instead of wasting ressources to constantly replace them due to lesser defences.

I like to keep in mind that Sedious was ultimately behind everything the CIS did, so he would have prevented them from using any tactics that would have ended the war too soon.
@shankthebat86543 жыл бұрын
You're missing the most obvious and most honest answer. The CiS armies didn't use advanced tactics more than once, because this was a TV show, and they didn't like to repeat tactics, because that would bore people. They didn't repeat a winning strategy because the bad guys can't be allowed to win. Unique designs followed the "rule of cool" and were deployed based on that, not on based on tactics or strategy.

I'd like to see a video on nonhuman groups that willingly supported the Empire (i.e., the Ailon Nova Guard), if you haven't done one already.
@riolufan22493 жыл бұрын
The wall of death deployment strategy is possibly not as bad as he frames it as, not just efficient deployment, but if you have a single droid shooting at 60 blasts per minute (bpm) and you have 64 droids in an 8x8 formation you have 60 blasts multiplied by 64, affectively increasing the fire rate rediculously high if they're focusing on a single target. And with this would've been way better with the fact that the CIS seldom had to worry about being outnumbered. This formation was actually used by European countries during the 1800s as a unit of soldiers would have the fire rate of a machine gun with only using muskets
@bobsterclause3423 жыл бұрын
Im thinking that the shielding is externally powered. That would explain everything. In fact, the tanks flew really, really high, around 5he mtts. That can be explained too.

I cant help but think that if they used their tanks as Infantry Tanks, in the front leading the wall instead of behind, the wall of death would be much more efficient; It would allow the droids to get much closer and suffer less losses before getting so close, thus increasing firepower.

Now I know we have these discussions about why the Republic and CIS didn’t do more of a specific thing. But here’s a question to ask. Why didn’t we see a lot of stuff from the Clone Wars, including these specialized units and tactics, be used by the Empire? I mean stormtroopers (for all their awful depictions) are meant to be well trained marines to the Empire yet they seem to almost always use just a big down standard infantry for most stuff instead of mixing up specialized units in their ranks. The shields for example could have been used by Stormtrooper guards on ships and stations.
@Just_Lars3 жыл бұрын
Canonically, the Empire's propaganda made it seem like the Stormtrooper where the Empires finest, when they really were not. Maybe at the start, yes, but with the years they lowered the standards and the Stormtrooper exeeded in numbers even partially the "regular" Imperial troops. Plus, those were mostly stationed on peaceful planets as a kind of heavy armed police, while Stormtrooper where more or less the actual Army of the Empire. The high numbers brought up the need for relatively cheap, standartized equipment and since dead Stormtroopers where higly replaceble, there really was no need to put more money into them then necessary. Another explenation would be, that the priorites where just different. Since Tarkin established his doktrin, the Empire tried to look as scary as possible. The money got into big, shiny projects. A battle station here, a massive fleet of basically useless Battleships there. They just saw no need to equip the troops properly, because as soon as the galaxy would see the true potential of the empire, nobody would rebel anyway.

there is one thing they could add to the wall of death give the front line shields, not the energy shields but a slab of durasteel, maybe with a cutout so they dont need to stick a limb out, ied refer to a warhammer 40k animation but if memory serves me right GW hired all the greatest fan animators and told them to remove those animations, but there should be plenty of reaction videos of the wh40k animation called Siege, hell you could pump those shields out faster then anything else in the CIS

The reason certain advanced battle droids and tactics were scarcely used was due to cost. Obviously these advanced droids were more expensive compared to standard battle droids.
