Magnaguards and Commando Droids were also effective against Jedi.
@TankHunter6783 жыл бұрын
@SonofEyeaboveall Effoff Beskar is lightsaber resistant thanks to its incredibly high melting point and generally being good at cooling off fairly quickly, but the more you alloy the Beskar the less pure it gets and the lower its melting point becomes making it more vulnerable to lightsabers. This is why you saw the Beskar Spear start glowing from all the blows it was taking from the Dark Saber, it was accruing more heat then it could disperse. The Dark Troopers likely use an alloy armor that incorporates Beskar, but the lack of available material meant that if they wanted to make a larger number of Dark Troopers they were going to have to sacrifice a lot of purity. So you wind up with a decent sized force that was blaster proof and heat resistant making them able to easily overpower the main protagonist and his friends but lacking the lightsaber resistant trait because of how impure the armor was. The reason why Legends Dark Troopers were so powerful was because of the difference in available resources, Palpatine had tremendous resources and planet stripping world destroyers he could draw upon while Moff Gideon was simply a single sector governor on the run only able to obtain what he could easily snatch up.

One thing I would like to clear up in your information, Geetsly, unless this was something that was retconned or changed post P-Series. The reason that we see the Destroyer Droids shift their shoulders and blasters back and forth is because they did have to shoot outside of their own shield. Which is actually represented in Episode one quite clearly in their first appearance in the movie. Mind you I'm also speaking for the true visual representation of them, not the stylized variations we see in TCW, original shorts or full series (which heaving used the original's aesthetic much to my dismay.) Canonically movie wise we don't get to see this in action again because DD's are only present twice in the ROTS and only one close up is done when they pop up around the shield trapped Anikin and Obiwan.

That Collicoid design looks very familiar to another speies in another franchise I like. The Chrysalids. Droidekas were my favorite droids. I'd have loved to see more of them and loved playing them back in the day on Battlefront 2, and don't forget the Mk II ones in Empire at War.

The Colicoids were consistently the most effective designers for battle droids in the clone wars. Even in Legends, repossessed droidekas were used well into the Galactic Civil War era.

Honestly these guys are why in BFI and II I often opted to serve my team as a vehicle driver/pilot. I either use a tank to take them out or bail my family members out with a quick strafing run. Damn bastards aren't so tough once I'm in the cockpit of an LAAT/Delta-7 or point a walker's mass driver cannon at them.

This was a fun video! Destroyers were neat, and rather iconic; fun to watch even Jedi struggle with them, though I sometimes wonder why Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan didn't just Force push them into walls/off their "feet", and hopefully disrupt the shields. Still, they were cool. I remember playing Kotor games, and something that reminded me of the Destroyers were the occasional Sentinel series (I think) combat droids you could occasionally find. They looked more humanoid than most of the units the later Colicoids would create, but they were a little alike. Like the B1s, they were bipedal, and could be slaved together into an operating system, instead of each being an individual. They used guns Luke the other troops, and so didn't need to have the extra power systems the Droidekas did, but they did sport energy shields. Back when I eas playing Star Wars RPG stuff, one of my concepts for a Kotor era character was a simple Sentinel; either a model that had already been given a processor, or a convenient body to place one in later. It could level up in most classes I would want, if I wasn't playing a Jedi, and being a droid meant it could sport the same shield generator, which had some cool exploits throughout the system. They are nowhere near as cool as the Destroyers, but I definitely got similar vibes every time I played, and found an area where a properly techy character could reactivate some Sentinels, raise their shields, and let them wear down a threat before I had to go in, and fight. A shame they weren't more important to anything, as even by Kotor, they were sort of obsolete remnants of even older battles.

The Clone Wars would have ended a lot quicker if Droideka if they where more common than they where. Just imagine the battle of *insert Clone Wars battle here* but replace all the B1s and B2s with Droidekas, let’s just be glad they couldn’t be mass produced like the other droid models otherwise I doubt everyone would have survived as long as they did
@CollinMcLean3 жыл бұрын
Sounds awesome at first but they're a bit too specialized to function as an effective vanguard... Virtually unprotected when they're rolling, slow moving when they're firing, and you can't use them for things like ordinance or armor since they don't have hands...

Oh... and since they can only roll... You could probably just build a somewhat tall wall... Threat neutralized...

@fabiocosta3830 Жыл бұрын
Droidekas are quite the pain in the ass. Their biggest flaw is that they have an hard time turning when deployed. Also, they had a blind spot if you got as close as possible at melee (republic commando. If you manage to get at melee with a droideka, and get yourself right between the guns, it can't hit you, and you can stab it continuously to save ammo)
