So I was one of the people who worked on the integration of the R1S into the R1T assembly line and early in the integration they changed the sealer/adhesive bead patterns several times. Early ones had sealer/adhesive literally around every opening including surrounding each door completely. Later they reduced the amount of sealer/adhesive they used so it would only surround the lower half of the doors and had breaks in the sealer/adhesive on areas like the rocker panel areas. The earlier R1T and R1S should be able to drive into 3 feet of water without water getting into the interior.

If you want to figure out where the truth of the world resides, look to the underwriters. They are simple cold calculating number crunchers. No politics, no conspiracies, they look at the numbers, work the math, and advise decisions based on wether or not what the insurance company is doing is profitable. Heartless, cruel, and almost always accurate.

I can see how there could be another part of this. Just like shady car dealerships pick compulsive liars to sell cars because they think they are helping people; I think someone is commissioning cold math-types to do their dirty work. Not saying it isnt VERY messed up, saying its even more messed up and manipulative.

@@justinborysenko3885you think hurricanes are caused by climate change? You need to study the weather history in the south, hurricanes have been recorded devastating those ares for centuries, meaning climate change hasn’t changed hurricanes at all. Building $billions worth of homes and infrastructure in hurricane areas has made insuring these homes in the pathways of common natural disasters extremely expensive for a good reason, it’s a no-brainer. 🤦 Do you think you should pay the same insurance for a home built 10 ft above a river that floods once a decade then you pay for a home built 100 ft above flood stage? Insurance is RISK averse, the more risk the higher the costs should be. Got three DWI’s…. What will your rates be?

For life insurance companies, those people are called Actuaries. They're the ones who look closely at the statistics of how and when people expire. These actuaries strangely noticed no excess human expirations during 2020, the year of massive house arrest and fear of alleged disease. Yet a year later, as soon as the serum was introduced, then those same actuaries noticed a big jump in mortality.

Underwriters are a very real thing, they are the ones making the decisions behind the scene. Regarding Cybertrucks on personal policies, likely due to policy definitions for covered/insurable autos, and these not meeting the rules. Someone mentioned weight, could be that as vehicle classifications are made based on weight don’t may be classifying as commercial, therefore not eligible for personal policy. No proof here, just thoughts.

My parents have a Tesla Model Y. Someone tapped their bumper at less than 5mph and it cost $8.000 to repair. Then someone backed into the rear bumper when exiting a parking spot and it cost over $15,000 to repair. They need to bring back the 5mph bumper test and not allow cars on the road that cost so much for the most minimal of accidents. We all pay for it.

My wife hit a deer last year in our 2019 Model 3 SR+. Front drivers side corner damage to the bumper. Total repair cost was $4800, which included replacing all the USS and radar sensors in the front bumper. With “Vision only” this damage should cost less to repair. As to insurance dropping Cybertrucks, they say the Cybertruck doesn’t meet PPA insurance due to Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR). Tesla Cybertruck: Around 8,800 - 9,200 lbs (depending on configuration) Rivian R1T: Around 8,500 lbs GMC Hummer EV: Around 9,000 - 10,000 lbs (depending on configuration) Ford F-150 Lightning: Around 8,250 lbs Chevy Silverado EV: Around 10,500 lbs Is Geico dropping insurance on the Hummer and Silverado, since they weigh more than Cybertruck? Or is the issue repair part availability? If so, is Geico dropping Rivian due to lack of replacement parts? Or, is there something else maybe not being reported here.? My guess is that Geico got a couple insurance claims for Cybertrucks, and while researching the vehicles, found pictures online of the vehicle with a business logo wrap, being used for commercial purposes, which would be covered under a different policy than PPA (Private Passenger Auto).

It's the cost of technology. They need to find a way to get the price down but to get full self driving to work they have to hide lots of sensors behind the bumpers so the car can see it's surroundings to drive safely.
@ATHIP12
@ATHIP12 Ай бұрын
@@TheCobruhAlienat0r Just to add more details about the cost, they basically had to replace the entire back of the car from the Rear Doors back. The damage was *slight*, but happened to touch on 2 major areas. The rear trunk/hatch is all one piece from the trunk to the middle of the roof, so the glass & everything had to be replaced. The lower bumper wraps around the entire back end of the bottom of the car. There was definitely technology involved, but it was made worse when they had to replace everything instead of just specific sections.
@Anlettuce1

@@jasonberger3227 It’s fair to say it’s all of the above. Insurance companies don’t want to cover most new cars because of the how expensive even the smallest fender bender can be. But then add the weight, controversial online presence, lack of parts availability (they built way too many) and problematic build quality and it’s a perfect storm. I hate everything about insurance companies and yet I understand their reasonings. Cars should be able to withstand typical bumps and bruises without needing absurdly costly repairs. Tesla won’t even buy back their OWN Cybertrucks between the depreciation and the issues they’re having. Tesla isn’t confident in their product so neither are the companies paid to bet on it.

I think it has to do with overall curb weight and recently videos where released of cyber trucks absolutely demolishing its way through guard rails designed to prevent that. They literally become and unstoppable force in the event of an accident or loosing control. Luckily not many on the road but if there were, I could see some serious carnage as the result of that much mass + strength of materials + no control. People will be seriously hurt and killed simply due to the fact it’s designed poorly with no safety other then occupants in mind.

(to all you boomers), the Rivian floating reminds me of the old National Lampoon spoof ad vis a vis the fact the Bug could float, "If Ted Kennedy drove a VW Bug he'd be President today."

Coldfusion's video on how new cars are spying on you, explained some of this. I can't remember the full details from the video, so I'll try to an oversimplified run down. Cars collect data on your driving habits, that data then gets back to the manufacturer, who then will sell that info to data brokers. Insurance companies will then buy that information from the data collectors, then insurance companies will change your rates. All this is going on without your knowledge and permission. And the manufacturers that do disclose this, will have it stated in lawyer like lingo, buried in the terms and conditions parts of the cars paperwork when you're signing for the purchase. You'll be surprised on how many manufacturers are insurance companies are doing this. Nissan cars will even track and record data if you have sex in the car.

Geico was the most expensive and worst insurance I've ever had. They will drop you like a bad habit if you file a claim, legit or not.

My family has been with Geico for 8 years give or take. They are by far the cheapest for us, while also providing better coverage too. We have had 2 claims during this time, and they didn't drop us. One of them was a total loss. They were easy to work with and paid out the settlement and negotiated to a fair number pretty quickly. The total loss was 4 years ago. No complaints from me about Geico. The thing with insurance is that they factor in a lot of stuff that we don't realize. My guess is that they have different tolerances for who they'll drop quickly vs who they'll keep in case of claims. That being said, do not be loyal to any insurance company. Always shop around from time to time to make sure you're getting the best deal.

Geico was the largest purchaser of radar guns in the 80s and they gave them to police departments for free. That spoke volumes to me. Never had them never will.

I'm thinking that Geico realizes that cyber-trucks are too dangerous when involved in accidents, maybe they also feel the trucks do not meet safety and/or quality standards and basically are "claims in waiting" for them. I also think that cyber trucks being involved in accidents, cause far more damage than regular cars and trucks because they've build them like a tank, and therefor are a danger to others. I would not want to get hit by a cyber monster, ok i would not want to be hit by any car or truck, but for sure.. not a cyber truck, you likely wont survive a hit from that driving brick wall.

I had several $40k trucks reserved, no matter how terrible they are, as long as they could haul garbage and people around a site they would have been well worth it, especially after the tax rebates. Of course that truck was just a con man's fantasy.
