So I was one of the people who worked on the integration of the R1S into the R1T assembly line and early in the integration they changed the sealer/adhesive bead patterns several times. Early ones had sealer/adhesive literally around every opening including surrounding each door completely. Later they reduced the amount of sealer/adhesive they used so it would only surround the lower half of the doors and had breaks in the sealer/adhesive on areas like the rocker panel areas. The earlier R1T and R1S should be able to drive into 3 feet of water without water getting into the interior.

My parents have a Tesla Model Y. Someone tapped their bumper at less than 5mph and it cost $8.000 to repair. Then someone backed into the rear bumper when exiting a parking spot and it cost over $15,000 to repair. They need to bring back the 5mph bumper test and not allow cars on the road that cost so much for the most minimal of accidents. We all pay for it.

My wife hit a deer last year in our 2019 Model 3 SR+. Front drivers side corner damage to the bumper. Total repair cost was $4800, which included replacing all the USS and radar sensors in the front bumper. With “Vision only” this damage should cost less to repair. As to insurance dropping Cybertrucks, they say the Cybertruck doesn’t meet PPA insurance due to Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR). Tesla Cybertruck: Around 8,800 - 9,200 lbs (depending on configuration) Rivian R1T: Around 8,500 lbs GMC Hummer EV: Around 9,000 - 10,000 lbs (depending on configuration) Ford F-150 Lightning: Around 8,250 lbs Chevy Silverado EV: Around 10,500 lbs Is Geico dropping insurance on the Hummer and Silverado, since they weigh more than Cybertruck? Or is the issue repair part availability? If so, is Geico dropping Rivian due to lack of replacement parts? Or, is there something else maybe not being reported here.? My guess is that Geico got a couple insurance claims for Cybertrucks, and while researching the vehicles, found pictures online of the vehicle with a business logo wrap, being used for commercial purposes, which would be covered under a different policy than PPA (Private Passenger Auto).

@TheCobruhAlienat0rАй бұрын
It's the cost of technology. They need to find a way to get the price down but to get full self driving to work they have to hide lots of sensors behind the bumpers so the car can see it's surroundings to drive safely.
@ATHIP12Ай бұрын
@@TheCobruhAlienat0r Just to add more details about the cost, they basically had to replace the entire back of the car from the Rear Doors back. The damage was *slight*, but happened to touch on 2 major areas. The rear trunk/hatch is all one piece from the trunk to the middle of the roof, so the glass & everything had to be replaced. The lower bumper wraps around the entire back end of the bottom of the car. There was definitely technology involved, but it was made worse when they had to replace everything instead of just specific sections.
@Anlettuce1Ай бұрын
@@jasonberger3227 It’s fair to say it’s all of the above. Insurance companies don’t want to cover most new cars because of the how expensive even the smallest fender bender can be. But then add the weight, controversial online presence, lack of parts availability (they built way too many) and problematic build quality and it’s a perfect storm. I hate everything about insurance companies and yet I understand their reasonings. Cars should be able to withstand typical bumps and bruises without needing absurdly costly repairs. Tesla won’t even buy back their OWN Cybertrucks between the depreciation and the issues they’re having. Tesla isn’t confident in their product so neither are the companies paid to bet on it.

Cars collect data on your driving habits, that data then gets back to the manufacturer, who then will sell that info to data brokers. Insurance companies will then buy that information from the data collectors, then insurance companies will change your rates. All this is going on without your knowledge and permission. And the manufacturers that do disclose this, will have it stated in lawyer like lingo, buried in the terms and conditions parts of the cars paperwork when you're signing for the purchase. You'll be surprised on how many manufacturers are insurance companies are doing this. Nissan cars will even track and record data if you have sex in the car.

No complaints from me about Geico. The thing with insurance is that they factor in a lot of stuff that we don't realize. My guess is that they have different tolerances for who they'll drop quickly vs who they'll keep in case of claims. That being said, do not be loyal to any insurance company. I had several $40k trucks reserved, no matter how terrible they are, as long as they could haul garbage and people around a site they would have been well worth it, especially after the tax rebates. Of course that truck was just a con man's fantasy.

It's because they are trucks and they don't have to qualify for car safety standards
