It was pretty common in this golden era of movies 1930s/40s for actors to have all the skills. Joan Crawford, James Cagney, Lauren Bacall, Mickey Rooney, (obviously) Judy Garland, Donald O'Conner and our own John Mills all started as 'song and dance' people. The contract system at the studios in those days made it almost impossible to refuse to do a movie the studio told you to do so the actors had to be prepared for dramatic, comedy or musicals. Interestingly, Ginger Rogers won her Academy Award for a dramatic role, not a dance movie, so it worked both ways.

According to Hollywood folklore, a screen test report on Astaire for RKO Radio Pictures, now lost along with the test, is reported to have read: "Can't sing. Can't act. Balding. Can dance a little." I knew that Fred's name was a fiction and I'd assumed that was because of an overtly Jewish name But such was not the case. Astaire of course - sounds like - to the stars. Didn't Steve and Edie Gorme dance with each other? I know they were a comedy and song team and did a lot of acting at the time.

There weren't too many that danced as well as Fred Astaire and Rita Hayworth "back then" either.

Perfect. Jackie Wilson was one of my favorites in the 50s growing up. You pulled it up. I watch it over and over. It never wares out. Rita could really dance.

Man, the beautiful Rita Hayworth, the debonair Fred Astaire doing outstanding dancing. They really look good together. The original music was Get Shorty and thanks to Roman Bellic he substituted it for Jackie Wilson's Your Love Keeps Lifting Me Higher And Higher- great blending, get video!

FANTASTIC!!! Thank you, Roman Bellic, for sharing this wonderful video. Fred and Rita look like they are having so much fun dancing effortlessly to Jackie Wilson's uplifting song. I smiled throughout the entire video. PEACE to ALL ... and STAY SAFE and HEALTHY.

Just as well we have ears AND eyes ! How else could we have appreciated this excellent marriage of the dancing of Fred Astaire & Rita Hayworth from a 50s movie to the brilliant soul singing of Jackie Wilson's 60s hit. A Double Whammy never tasted better 😊🎉❤ And boy, those two shimmied their way like Strictly could do with a tribute.
