The four prong tested better in side concussion as well as less kick up in prone, awkward position shooting, also reducing signatures as well as helping in close quarters combat. This was main concern over recoil and compensation differences in 3 prong. Both tested great in flash suppression. The new closed tine has addressed many of these to an even better extent.

But you would just use a suppressor anyways so it doesn't matter at all.....

@@DisgruntledDepressed This was built for the military though, they always think of the backup. For instance, BUIS. Yes, they’re just gonna use the optic anyway right? So why have BUIS? Well what is something goes wrong with the optic? Then there is a backup sighting system. Same with the flash hider. Yes, suppressor will be primary, but what if mission dictates no suppressor or what if the suppressor gets fubar’ed. Being military they have to consider no suppressed firing thus having to also optimize the flash hider.

BCM low profile gas blocks are mounted solid, even without a pin. BCM uses high temp loctite thread lock on the set screws, the barrel is dimpled, and the set screws have special knurled ends. But this isn't what makes them so solid. They also use a high temp metal retaining compound from loctite, between the gas block and barrel. Retaining compound is designed to hold parts, like bearings, onto smooth, round metal shafts. This is basically a permanent install from my experience. I have used the stuff, and trying to remove a bearing destroyed the bearing, and left the inner race still in place. I gave up on ever getting the thing removed. To get the gas block off of the barrel on a BCM requires a ton of heat for a long time to break down the retaining compound. Enough heat for long enough, that I would consider the barrel possibly unsafe to use, due to ruining the heat treat and tempering. I seen some test data at one point that had the stuff withstanding 600*F for something like 24hrs continuous, and still retained 60% of it's strength. Pinned gas blocks are good and solid... But the BCM method is just about as bomb proof. Retaining compound is serious stuff. I wouldn't worry about it coming loose.

Bravo-Zulu! Excellent presentation on the URGI. I love Daniel Defense Barrels, Gas Blocks and BCGs I used them every time I build a Special Project Rifle for my collection like my Mk12 Mod 0sh and my 300BK Carbine Project. I have LOVE the Mk12 gas block that thing is build like a M1A1 Abrams Tank. Right now I really like the Aero Precision M4E1 Enhanced Upper along with the 15 inch mlok forearm there is considerable accuracy increase with the Enhanced Upper over the standard as I found out when I upgraded the Upper on my Mk12 that I build almost 6 years ago and put the barrel into the Aero Precision Upper. On the old JP Upper with the DD 5.56 18 inch S2W barrel I was getting half inch groups at 100 using Mk262/Black Hills 77gr OTM and in the new Aero Upper 3 5 shots groups went thru one slightly oval hole measuring less than a quarter inch. I was shooting using the bipod and the monopod on the Magpul sniper stock all the ammo was from the same lot. Daniel Defense makes a Great Stuff!

The barrel picture you used is a DD 14.5" light weight barrel, not the Government contour barrel. As for weight difference, it's hysterically little. The lightweight barrel and the Govt profile barrel are less than two ounces different. The lightweight compared to the M4 (which is a carbine gas length) is only approximately 3.5 ounces different. Unless they are using some profile that DD isn't offering in the civilian sales world, there is no weight difference debate... It's so little in comparison to the overall weight to be insignificant. What IS relevant is the M-4 cut on the barrel renders a weak point on the barrel and isn't necessary if you are never going to hang an M203 off of the barrel (which you aren't with the FF rail on it). So, the whole barrel discussion is pretty lame. We at the shop here have had DD 14.5" LW barrels take 25k rounds of M193, and one in particular over 20K rounds of Wolf (different barrels) before they were burnt. BTW, the only true answer to your question is 'The Princess Bride'. Any other answer is inconceivable.
@mattwalters68346 жыл бұрын
Sean M yep; differences are very minor, both in the 1 lb region.

@@mattwalters6834 _Any_ added weight is going to be more obnoxious the farther forward it is, though. Much better to keep the weight down in front of the pistol grip and add weight behind it.

Doesn’t seem like a lot of rounds.
@stevef49302 жыл бұрын
This comment is just completely untrue. The added weight on the government profile barrels towards the front of the barrel is very significant. It completely switches the venter of gravity of the rifle making it much more difficult to hold one-handed. Yes the added weight overall is very minor but the location of the added weight is extremely significant. Stop commenting about things you know nothing about.
