I came into this lil trick when i started to have cstmers coming back with chipping gelpolish issues. Since the OPI ( brand we work ) some of their colors have that issue, when it pulls back... It was so frustrating

Hi again! This is so helpful! I know you don’t recommend amateurs do their own gels but I’m sooo busy as a doc in the GTA and don’t have time to go and I discovered that this is a great source of relaxation. I’m sticking to CND Shellac Ann Vinylux for quality and ease of removal. Your videos are so detailed and helpful! I wish I could be notified when you’re streaming. Thank you again! I hope I can be as neat as you the next time I try capping! 🤗

Hello Donna! Thank you for your comment :) Yes, I can totally understand your predicament. Good salons are difficult to find, and many salons don't use products properly, they don't cure the gels correctly. It's a sad mess. The reason why I don't recommend gel polish is because people don't take the whole thing seriously and these products do contain sensitising ingredients so they have to be applied and cured correctly. Once someone is sensitised it's for life so that's why... Shellac is one of the safest products out there but it still has to be used right. PS. I think you can be notified when we go live... we do the lives every Monday at 2pm EST. This Monday it might be different because we change our clocks here this weekend. Hopefully you can join us one day :))

i am NOT a free edge capper, when i was first starting i watched ppl like amy becker from nail masters and lori holloway from the meticulous manicurist. They didn't cap their nails had good explanations as to why and being they were so fast with appointment times and that it worked for them for 20 years it would work for too.!!!! BUT that being said, i encountered a polish that pulled backed i have never had this happen before but thankfully i watch YOUR videos and i followed your "capping" trick. HOWEVER it does not always work so great for me i find now as some polishes i have if i do a flash cure they will wrinkle!!! ITS so FRUSTRATING "experimenting" every time i find a "shrinking" polish!!! But most often this trick is AWESOME!!!!
@TheSalonLife5 жыл бұрын
I normally don’t see the need to cap regular nail polish because it doesn’t shrink. If you find that the gel polish wrinkle after you flash cure it, then full cure it and then add the edge piece. Although I never have a wrinkling issue and you know how many brands I have. Unless I apply it too thick maybe? Which gel wrinkled on you and were you curing in the recommended/matching lamp?
@TheSalonLife5 жыл бұрын
Ps. Capping like I do is not time consuming. It adds maybe 1 minute to an appointment?
@BajaRosie5 жыл бұрын
The Salon Life I don’t cap regular or gel. I cap my base coat only. But when I do have to cap with a shrinking gel polish I use your method and your right it doesn’t add much time at all. Thank goodness for KZbin university by THE SALON LIFE!!! lol

I was using Essie Here Stay basecoat and Essie No Chips topcoat and they did shrink, along with Fast dry topcoats, Elegant Touch nail Drying spray 125ml and a hairdryer! Wet n Wild Black & white creme nail polish, Essie nail 5ml mini polishes and MTSSII gel polishes are used! Budget only! I adore Sally Hansen Insta dry clear Topcoat and Seche Vite fast dry topcoat and Essense Nail polish Dry drops, nails drying instantly and no smudged or hairy nails! Need a non shrink, non stain resistant nail polish topcoat! With Essie basecoat, polish shrink from sidewalls and soaks off like a Peel off basecoat! Is that the idea?? After a non shrink adhesive basecoat! Orly Bonder or CND STICKEY BASECOATs are expensive £16/$19 for 9-70ml. Has enough, switching to nail wraps! Any recommendations for a non shrink, non staining basecoat and topcoat? Uk 🇬🇧 26.4.24

I love your style! I rarely find a tech that works like I do.... Here you are :) I am a huge CND shellac lover, but I don't know anything about Creative Play. Whats the difference as far as results, please?
@TheSalonLife3 жыл бұрын
Awesome! Thank you! I like Shellac much better. Way easier soak off, better color selection, feels more like polish, and the wear is the same. I don't mind paying double ;)

Just came across this really useful video and want to ask would you do each nail individually - polish, flash cure, cap or could you polish all five nails, flash cure them together and then cap.
@eBellykinz4 жыл бұрын
yes I was wondering the same thing! I am a working esthetician and run into this problem frequently as a lot of OPI shades tend to do this. Anna, at what point do you flash cure?

A couple of questions, I'd love to know! 1. I use Shellac and have a problem with it also shrinking with certain colors. I cap the edges for base, color and top coats. I have never "flash" cured before. Can we do this with the Shellac color as you are with the gel? My CND lamp does 5 seconds? 2. Where can we buy that special tool of yours? I want one! Thanks!
@TheSalonLife3 жыл бұрын
Yes you can do this with Shellac. Shellac is a gel polish. You don’t need a special tool. The angled sticks I’ve been using recently work very well. Ps. Make sure you shake your gel polish very well (preferably in a shaker)

I once learned a trick that if you dry brush the base coat to get the shine off some that helps with shrinking. Have you ever heard of it or tried that? And does it work?
@TheSalonLife3 жыл бұрын
Hi Judy! Yes, dry brushing helps but this would be an additional step

The Polish Clean Up Brush link doesn't link to anything. If it was the one you used in video. I'd love to get one. Any other links/suggestions as to where one could find it? Was it a brush with hairs/bristles or some other material, hard to tell.

When I cap the edge I feel like that’s the first thing that chips and it chips fast. Do you have any tips for that??

I didn’t know they were discontinuing it! I guess maybe the sales were not so good? I found the colors to be so so. I prefer Shellac too. Application wise and removal wise.

Hi! Can i mix the brand ? For example Cnd base coat Opi gel polish And cnd top coat?

I say follow the manufacturer recommendations. Mixing brands is not recommended as is not curing in appropriate lamps. Just google "allergic reaction to gel polish" and you will see why ;(
