Hi, I am a Norwegian fan who absolutely love your youtube show. You've just saved my day! I have a Marieholm 24. A Swedish, 24 foot cabin cruiser. Which sank last year. Thought the boat was a little too good to be scrapped. But fiberglass / wood work is not my thing. (I a mechanic). So now I take one step at a time to try to learn how to repair it. The hardest thing to fix for me was the nonskid. And you just showed me how. Also struggling a bit with teak doors and hull vinyl upholstery. Just made new pullpit / pushpit for the boat, out of stainless steel. Thanks alot for shearing you`re expertise.

Awesome!!! I’m feeling a little better already Long story short I just bought a 1975 whaler it’s the 13.7 one. It has like 4 small holes on the deck and two 3” cracks on the floor. I was told to foam fill the holes first then repair it .. I definitely gave this channel a Sub and smashed the like button !!! Thank you for sharing

Your videos are so insightful, I had a question, how would you fill a cavity between gelcoat and fibreglass? I have a coach house where the two have parted and there are now holes in the non-skid between the gel and fibre. Many thanks
@epicguidez79225 жыл бұрын
Drill into cavity with a small drill bit, inject resin or gelcoat into cavity with syringe

Great vid. Love your channel. I have a 1985 Bluewater Coastal Cruiser. Previous owner added a lot., Like 100 snaps for canvas stuff. I would love to see a video on removal of old snaps, filling and gel coat back to a "No holes" condition. It's old white gel coat. Easy to color match? That's the part I get hung up on the most.

Hi Thanks for a great video. Gibco Flexmold has all the repair patterns by the square foot so you don't have to make a mold. I would also recommend you use a piece of formica to remove the excess gelcoat or a sharpened wood stick so you don't scratch the gelcoat.

Hi Andy, I very much appreciate your video because I have a old regatta sailboat and I have to repair the non-skid with old hole all around. Andy, love your videos! Do you know if 3M 5200 will adhere to PVA? Thinking of trying 5200 for small ( 1.5" diameter or less) non-skid deck repairs versus gelcoat because of its flexibility vs gelcoat. And, the color happens to be an almost perfect match for my gelcoat. Your thoughts? Thank You!

Are there issues of non-compatibility between epoxy fillers and resin and the chemistry of non-skid gel coats?
@HarryLevinson4 жыл бұрын
Do you think this would work for a small repair on a cabin top that has a slight curvature in one, or maybe two, directions? The existing non-skid gelcoat is a bit oxidized. Will the PVA fill the gelcoat pores sufficiently to still release? I'm even more concerned about the how well it will release when making the mold in the first place. Thanks for your great videos!

Hi Andy. I follow your channel and you do really great stuff!! I am in the midst of trying to make a mould but I seem to be having 2 problems. 1) when applying the pva with a sponge the pva seems to be beading up. 2) thinking that that there was too much wax I decided to wash off the pva and start again. To my horror the pva stained my gel coat. Would you have any advice you could give?

I have damage to my hulls with deep gelcoat chips. I can gently clean the chipped areas with a Dremel and then apply gelcoat. To get the gelcoat thickness I need it will take several coats. I've listened to you lament about having to sand between coats of waxed gelcoat and I feel your pain 😖😳 Is it ok to build up several coats for thickness with unwaxed gelcoat then for the final topcoat use waxed gelcoat to cure/harden to a sandable buffable hard finish?
@jimokell98964 жыл бұрын
I am using total boat Gelcoat with wax to make a small repair on my Bayliner 175 BR. I have tried a test batch - one ounce of gelcoat with 11 drops of MEKP but it did not dry completely. The temperature was about 85 degrees. Do I need to add more hardener? Also, should I apply a cover coat to keep the air off the surface. If so what would you recommend I use? The ding is on a vertical surface so should I add a small amount of colloidol silicone to prevent sagging or dripping at the application site?

Awesome man! I have a boat we just bought and we love it! She has a small spot where the deck is delaminating :( I don’t feel like I could fix it myself. Would replacement of the core be more feasible from below or above? Or could an injection be done? How do I find a good fiberglass guy?

Thanks. Very informative. But what if the area we want to fill is curved? I read an article that instructed to make a frame from plexiglass over the non skid and pour Silicone RTV to make the mold. And then follow the same steps as you I guess. What is your opinion?
@boatworkstoday8 жыл бұрын
+Alexandros Tsakris You could also make your mold just aft of the damaged area (still on the curved area) and proceed like what was shown in the video :-) Sandbags would handy for weighting the mold as it will conform to the surface and apply an even pressure.. Hope this helps!

I asked this question 8 months ago, I am still looking to repair cracks in non-skid areas, damage where the non-skid has just been damaged - aka tops worn off through the gelcoat. What about just wiping the area very clean with acetone and spraying some gelcoat over the area,, ot "painting" a thin layer????

I recently has a soft spot in my deck repair by a professional boat yard and am very disappointed in the cosmetic outcome. While the soft spot is gone the holes drilled to inject it are very visible. The owner of the boat yard says that because the holes had to be drilled in noslip it would have been extremely difficult to restore the pattern, which I find unacceptable. So now what I'm left with is five holes that look like they have been filled with putty and left to dry. Your video makes no slip restoration look relatively simple. Do you think I should try to tackle this myself or should I look for a professional to do it? Your input will be greatly appreciated. FYI, I love your videos!

Andy great video as always! Dumb question, is there a trick to lining up the pattern to the repair area since the mold is upside down when doing this?
@boatworkstoday8 жыл бұрын

can these mold patterns work with top paint as well, say awlgrip paint?
@boatworkstoday8 жыл бұрын
+Marnie Mason Well, yes and no. You would not be able to create the texture using this mold and paint (paint can't be applied that thick) but you could use some epoxy and the mold to create the texture, then come back over and paint to blend in the appearance. A couple extra steps but it's do-able

+xavytex it's really a matter of getting to know the gun your using for spraying. The one I used has a 1.1mm tip and I had the air set at 30psi with the fan half open and very little material coming out so there is good atomization.. But each gun has its own sweet spot :-). Practice makes perfect!
