BRAVO 👏👏👏 This is EXACTLY what I've been looking for! I've been experimenting with some free AI, Artificial Intelligence art programs. They are just crazy fun! Some of them are just filters with "styles" that are presets for any image you choose to upload or they you can use your own styles form things you've created. Other AI Artificial Intelligence programs use algorithms and you create your image with text. You tell the program what you want and it creates it for you to the best of it's knowledge. There's virtually no limit to what you can do with these programs. I've been kinda breaking the rules and pushing the limits by cross breeding my images between the different programs and bending the results and the final images are amazing. It's a lot of trial and error but tons of fun. I love the "Pop Art" style and screen print Old "poster" style of screen printing. Sorry for being long winded and there is a point I'm getting to. My goal is to take my photos, tweek them through the AI programs, take that finished print and use them for stencils to use to recreate a "Pop Art" image with the gel plate print "system". It's more difficult to explain than it would be to show you... What I'm getting at is this video is almost, sorta, kinda like, what I'm trying to accomplish. Maybe 45 years ago I started experimenting with my color photos and using friskets to mask off certain areas. I didn't have a lot of money so I improvised. I'd take ordinary rubber cement glue, paint it on portions of my color prints and dip the photo in a Clorox bleach bath. The bleach would react with the un-masked off portions and the results and colors would look amazing... I got the frisket idea from taking a class in airbrush. Sorry for going off on a tangent here. What I want to do is take all those different processes and combine them to use on the gel plate. My reasoning is I can print as many copies of a print and using the rubber cement as a mask again and cover up different parts of the photo copy print, roll out the ink, press for a first image. I can then take a new photo copy, same print and mask off different positions on that one for a second layer and keep repeating the process and build up different color layers. It's sorta like lithography and block printing and silk screen printing with gel printing all rolled into one. What I'm trying to say is this video is an inspiration!!! Watching your video makes me believe I'm heading in the right direction with my loony idea! I've yet to actually try it to see if it'll work but watching what you do and how you approach your work tells me anything is possible and for that I Thank you. My only concern is will the rubber cement frisket stick to the gel plate and pull up chunks of the plate. Well I guess I'll find out! LoL I'm 66 years old and have been playing with photography and paint and clay and crayons and any and everything I can get my hands on and then some. But everytime I watch one of your videos I walk away saying, "There's still more things out there to try..." Thanks for sharing 👍

What a great technique! By the way, I tested the baking paper for when I run out of labels. If you can cut it to size and get it to feed through your laser printer, it prints perfectly well. But it doesn't stick at all and will smudge if you're not careful. The toner transfers incredibly easily. I suppose it would transfer immediately if you placed it carefully on a gel plate. I make something like gel plates which I use for a similar function... by pressing silicone rubber and other adhesives into a carboard frame in my book press!

I love geli printing on tissue so I worked this out in order to mount them on a more stable base. So…… Here is another technique for you to try. Combining ideas from the furniture decoupage and the foiling communities I have been playing with putting glue down on a background, letting it dry and then ironing tissue paper to the glue. You get a completely wrinkle free finish. Because Ironing is a hassle i have been running my glued piece and tissue sandwich through my laminator. Perfect tissue adhesion without wrinkles. Note I use a carrier pocket to make sure no paint or glue gets on the rollers.
@yeatesmakes2 жыл бұрын
Hi Chris - this sounds really interesting - is it PVA glue you're referring to? I don't have a laminator, but I do have an iron which i never use for what it's intended!!!
@crisscross1042 жыл бұрын
@@yeatesmakes I tried with a number of different glues when hand ironing and the best i found was the tacky glues from Aleens. Pressure made a big difference so normal pva works for me in the laminator, Its just a neat way of working with large tissue sheets. Dry iron and Use baking paper on top of the tissue so the iron does not damage the papers
@crisscross1042 жыл бұрын
@@yeatesmakesI saw that you used some coloured tissue paper numbers in a different video. Have you ever looked at the amazing colours you get on the back of painted coloured tissue paper. I just subscribed to your channel a few days ago and have been binge watching while waiting for my new Gelli plate to arrive in the mail. Now that I have it, I've been practicing on it and cannot seem to get the technique down for laser prints. Does the type of acrylic paints used or gel medium matter? Is it important to use a certain type of paper? I've been using some cheap acrylics until I can get some better ones, along with a bit of Liquitex gel medium so I wonder if that's a factor.

Hi there, paint really matters. I've had most success with Amsterdam, Daler Rowney Graduate and also Pebeo. Apparently Golden are good also. For laser transfer, if you can get Amsterdam, that seems best - very heavy and buttery. Hang in there with it!

Just a quick question. Will the laserjet print still work if I can only print in black and white setting? I only have a monotone laser printer, so can't do the colour option. Your prints look alot shinier than mine, would that be due to the colour setting?? I take it your just printing onto normal cheap copier paper? Kind regards Mark

Hi Mark - laser printout on black and white settings will work, I've just found colour settings more reliable. More important is type of paint, thin layer and and speed of working : )

Great stuff, Mark. One question: What printer are you using to make your prints? I have an HP Laser, but it's only a b+w printer, so there is no option to print in colour mode. So far, when I pull the b+w print, either all the acrylic comes off (leaving behind hardly any image) or it leaves almost all the acrylic still on the plate, essentially obliterating the image. I'm trying to adjust the amount of acrylic I apply to the plate and also the pressure/timing when putting down the laser print. I'm not having great success at the moment, but I'm going to persevere.

Hi Lee, not sure of the make or model of printer, but I normally get the local print shop to print my copies for me. They use a big copier / printer - the sort you'd find in an office. Definitely persevere - you should be able to pull a B and W print out, I just found a bit more success with those printed on colour setting. The trick is working quickly, and getting that thin layer just right - it's like alchemy!!! Just when i think I've totally cracked it, I get a bad transfer!!!!!!

@@yeatesmakes Thanks for the encouragement. I've now had a couple half decent transfers, but not yet as good as yours. Good to know it's a bit of alchemy, even for you!

Do you know why it doesn’t work so well with an inkjet?
