FYI, this was a longer episode because it was a special, specifically the Thanksgiving special. They don't explicitly state it because holidays like Thanksgiving, Halloween and Christmas canonically don't exist in their world, although they have themed episodes for them. This is also seen in Andy's line "Giving family property out like candy on some... candy giving holiday!" because Halloween doesn't exist

The only exception I can think of is that some equivalent of New Year's exists, as shown in "Maximum Capacity" (though New Year's isn't really the same _kind_ of holiday as the others that _are_ excluded, so it makes some amount of sense).

A very realistic portrayal of a conservative placed in the fantasy setting of the show dealing with space aliens instead of illegal aliens with commentary on non-traditional families. Calling the characters he probably saw as a lesbian couple hobos and vegetarians is a more palatable ignorance for him to share on a children's program

Andy is a great character, in my opinion. I'm a conservative myself, so I can't say I agree with how people say he's so awful. Firstly, he owns the property, and also the plane. It means a lot to him because of the memories he had there. Being pissed off that someone is squatting on your property is just normal. Especially the plane too. Andy being insensitive? The gems were insensitive and ignorant too, but you'll never hear people call them that like Andy. Sure, they thought it was Greg's and that nobody was using it, so it's more Greg's fault than anything for giving permission where he had no right to. Obviously, the show is more fantasy, so the gems are only technically illegal immigrants, not actually. It's just crazy to me that people hate so much on Andy just for being angry about strangers taking apart his property. And don't tell me it was 'abandoned' like Greg said. Andy clearly had stuff stored in it, and maintained both the stuff and the property, even if he wasn't constantly there. Either way, both sides say insensitive and ignorant things, and they're eventually able to understand the situation and be fine with it.

The leaked title "Gem Harvest" caused ominous concern, that it had something to do with the thing that terrified Peridot in "Catch and Release". There was discussion whether this story was the Crewniverse's answer to Donald Trump's rhetoric. Since this episode came out just after the 2016 election, and it takes almost a year for an episode to be made, this seemed unlikely; but since controversy over Trump had been brewing since the summer of 2015, there may be some truth to that contention. While legally Andy could leave the barn for twenty years and expect that everything would still be in there, in reality that expectation would be improbable. Greg has been in Beach City for the past twenty years or so, and seems to have been the only person keeping an eye on the place. If Greg was selling stuff from the barn, that would be unjust enrichment on his part, but he didn't do that. It could be reasonably concluded that, by the time Pearl made her spacecraft with the barn's relics, Andy had abandoned the barn and its contents. We're now in the second autumn of the series, about a year after season one's Horror Club.

Apparently DeMayo is kind of a jewish surename, and i guess Andy has some short of accent (idk im not a english speaking person and i don't see too much the difference between british and american accent) so yeah Greg and the rest of his family have jewish origins.

Honestly I feel like some of the things Andy was mad about are actually pretty understandable in hindsight. Particularly his dad's plane being taken apart to build an oven. It's easy to say he's just an angry boomer who doesn't like change but would anyone not be mad about that. He said he learnt to fly on that plane. Presumably from his father who might very well be dead for all we know. And the gems didn't even apologize for scrapping it without his consent. Frankly I think I'd be way more pissed than he was in that situation. I honestly can't think of a physical item in my life that has anywhere near that level of sentimental value to me. Andy comes off as unlikable and offensive, which sort of makes it easy to automatically trivialize or dismiss everything he says. But when you really think about it he's not really in the wrong here. But the gems aren't really in the wrong here either. Sentimental value is probably a pretty new concept for most of them, and their general understanding of how to talk to humans who aren't already used to them is pretty limited. It's clear that by the end they were all making a serious effort to understand Andy or at least make him feel welcome. And I think he noticed and appreciated that, and that's why he became less angry as the episode went on. And I really like how Peridots speech was the deciding factor here. Because despite Peridot being arguably the most alien of the gems, that speech clearly resonated with Andy in a very personal way.
