Greg’s song in this episode is the song Rebecca wrote and incorporated into the episode they were working on when they learned that Steven Universe would not be renewed past Season 5(for really scummy reasons. We’ll talk about that more later). In other words, this is the benchmark for where things will start speeding up. They have to cut out stuff to make it end where it ends.

The reason why his gem glowed in this episode was the same reason and a “call forward” to the first episode. Whenever he’s surrounded by loved ones, in peace, and happy, his gem responds the same way!

It's fascinating how all three gems saw Steven's existence as something different. Pearl thought Rose was just trapped in her gem. Amethyst saw it as a weird form of shapeshifting. And Garnet thought he was a fusion

What had hit hard the most was how Pearl was. The fact that she tried to pull the gem out of Steven’s stomach was pretty horrifying. But I’m glad she accepted him afterwards & became one of the best mother figures to Steven

I love this episode because it echoes in the episode the test where the gems talk about how they're struggling to raise Steven because there is nothing like him, but they're doing their best. Also, the scene where Pearl was thinking about taking out his gem hits different when you finish the series if ya know, ya know.

Remember Rose didn't litterly turn to Steven, she was pregnant with him in the video she made for Steven. From my understanding to give birth to Steven she gave up her gem so Steven could be born, and the gem is the only real part of The gems that are real/not made of light.

There had been a fan theory running for some time that Greg wasn't sunburned but was permanently "pinked" when Rose megapoofed giving birth to Steven. I didn't give it much thought one way or another until this episode. Back in the Lion 3 video, just before Steven was born, we see Greg with normal skintone, but here only a few months later...and in winter no less...Greg has his familiar "farmer's tan". To me that confirms the theory.
