Updates after a year: I've tried baking and frying them too. It worked both ways with the same recipe. Personally, I still prefer frying them. It gives that fluffy yet crispiness. Still sticking to this recipe until now (own review). I feel like she's so underrated! And why are there 1.5k of thumbs down when someone who is a pro but generous with her info and knowledge? THANK YOU GEMMA! I shall bake them tonight

Bigger Bolder Baking Are 3 3/4 cups flour really 575g? My 1 cup for flour is 130g. So total for 3 3/4 is 455g. Am I missing something. My dough was very very sticky the next morning. Please help.

Did these with my 11 yr old daughter & they are amazing!!! Gemma explains everything & it works exactly as she says - thank you Gemma! We weren't sure what size cutter to use so (I think) used a 5 inch one which resulted in more - 20 or so. Not complaining at all about this! We did half chocolate, half white icing & cooked the inside bits which are adorable baby doughnuts. A huge favourite among the family - I can see us doing these regularly. Another brilliant offering 😘😊

A few years ago i had a tragic accident while making donuts with oil and ended up with 3rd degree burns, needless to say i was traumatized and now refuse to cook with hot oil. I dont like following random recipes i cant watch other people do, so youtube is a good place for me. Im going to try this in the morning lol, ill see how it goes

I made these yesterday. This is a very easy recipe to follow. They turned out great and smell so good. I replaced the honey with agave. I had recently purchased some and wanted to use it in baking. And when I saw honey in this recipe, I thought that I would give it a try. I also made the icing sugar from scratch as well. My husband and son liked them. I left a few plain and will use them for a breakfast pastry.

I'm making these right now and my dough is not growing at all. My yeast was brand new. My milk was not too hot. I separated the salt from the yeast. I don't know why it didn't grow. 😤 UPDATE: I let the dough rise overnight unrefrigerarated because I didn't want the dough to be cold. In the morning my dough was doubled in size. I think my kitchen was just a wee bit too chilly and that is why I didn't see a difference--even at 4 hours. But it did rise eventually, just more slowly. I baked the donuts and tossed them in cinnamon and sugar. They were delicious! Thank you Gemma, for this lovely recipe. I have a feeling I'll be making these a lot more because my husband is in love! UPDATE 2: People other than my husband didn't know what to make of these donuts. I ate so many because I think they're great but my mother didn't like them at all. But then again she likes overprocessed fake food so I'm not sure if she counts. She'd rather have a Twinkie. 😕

I've just brought the baked donuts from the oven and but the sugar glaze and I couldn't resist trying and it's amazing really better than fried and the whole house smells like biscuits,every one afraid to try it baked should go for it without hesitation and I promise you won't ever regret it,thanks a lot gemma you are my cooking angel

I made half of the recipe and even didnt leave the dough overnight. The result was still amazing OMG 😊 the donut was so light and smell so good. I poured some brown sugar syrup on top of the donuts. Yummy. Thank you so much for the recipe 😍😍😍

I made these and my dough rose beautifully so when making the doughnuts I must have made the holes to small as they all but disappeared when baked, I still iced them and ate one still warm it was crispy outside and soft and fluffy inside. I like this method as I don't like to fry doughnuts because its unhealthy for me personally, next batch I will make bigger holes though, nice recipe

I made them!!! First, I though it’s a weird recipe because the dough looks very moist but at the end, when the doughnuts were baked, they were extremely delicious! The texture is very gentle and it’s not fat since they’re baked and not fried

Made these a few days ago with fast action yeast they look amazing and taste great. Just as a warning make sure the hole in the middle of the bowl is quite large as they will rise and spread. Thanks for the great recipe Gemma!

I had never eaten a donut before, only seen it on american TV. I had to cut mine with a cup and a bottle cap, and use a yeast tablet instead of dry instant. The dough was a little sticky so I got worried. But then they came out just like the simpsons/lazy cop donuts on TV! They had bubbles and layers and they were cooked through, and it there was a crunchy skin and soft interior. I glazed one with dulce de leche too, and omg, it was heaven. I'll be forever subscribed!

Thank you for this video Gemma. I don't eat doughnuts because of the ridiculous amount of oil used to fry them. You're just like me in the kitchen(making do with what you have and not buying a doughnut cutter😂)one of the reasons I love you. I can't wait to try this recipe!

This looks fantastic. I never eat fancy doughnuts. I dislike all the toppings and sprinkles. I like mine with jam inside and covered in a bit of icing sugar on top. That's how the Polish version looks like and they are the best tasting doughnuts ever. I'm going to prepare them tonight, ready for baking tomorrow. When I was pregnant with my second son I was crazy about doughnuts and now my 5yo is crazy about them too! He's been asking me to make doughnuts for a long time, but I don't have any fancy equipment to make them so I've never made them. I'm glad I finally researched if they can be made in the over and voila! Awesome. And I don't even need special doughnut tins. My grandmother used to deep fry them, but it is healthier from the oven and less hassle.

This recipe is genius! So good! 5 stars 100%. Tips I thought I should share: you can use tongs for frosting the donuts too! It works great! Also I have a question. How long do you bake the donut holes? I did half the time for them.

Tried it for the first time and doughnuts became awesome and disappeared quickly. Will do now another batch. What I did different, I used a baking tray and it worked just perfect. Thanks Gemma.

Yes I used a doughnut baking tray. Some offer up to 12 doughnuts in one go. I made small balls and pulled it over the thing in the middle. That worked for me.

Tried this recipe today, and replaced honey with maple syrup, and ended up with a slightly soggy dough when cutting. However, the taste and texture is wonderful. I worked with 1/4 of the ingredients with 4 donuts, so small batches work just fine. Love this recipe

Oh no! I always say, eat anything, in moderation. And you’ll be grand. You can also sub the sugar with a sweetener that’s a healthier option.

I love fresh donuts, but I'm not an early riser. By the time I'm ready to start my day, donut shops are either already closed or at the least whatever is left is no longer fresh. I like that the dough can keep for a few days in the fridge. I can just make a small batch each day.

made these today and they turned out amazing! here are some changes i made to the recipe: 1/4 cup sugar instead of honey for a more neutral flavor; activate+proof the yeast in warm milk and then add with other wet ingredients; 1/8 tsp nutmeg + 1/4 tsp cinnamon instead of vanilla. bake for 14 minutes! they were delicious and i will definitely be making them again!

Hi Gemma. This recipe is gold! Both time I baked them they were eaten in less than two hours by my family :D I know it's an old video but I hope you'll see my comment, and hopefuly answer my question: can this recipe be used for making mini donuts? Will the smaller size of the cutouts affect the softness of the dough when baking in the oven? I would like to make mini ones as cupcake topers. Thank you for your recipes, many of them became my regular and favorites!

dont see why you couldnt ; i would check b-4 time is up and cook less time.put them on parchment i would think. just an opinion. hope it helps

+Maddy James mmmmm good question. I have not tried a gluten free flour with yeast before. If you kind a g.f flour that is for bread making and to be used with yeast then absolutely try it out :)

These dounts look so good and there so much healthier and better than fried dounts. Also I LOVE baking and cooking and my family has stopped using oil because it's SO not healthy. So this is an amazing video thanks.

Both the dough and the end result look amazing, your instructions are clear and easy to follow. As a pastry CHEF, shouldn’t you teach people that cooking/baking with jewelry and especially nail polish, is very unsanitary?? I made your donuts with my daughter and they turned out fantastic! Goodness they all look amazing Gemma. I love this recipe. I have 2 questions, how long do they store for before they go hard in an air tight container? Also, you say to choose a good baking tray, what type of tray do you recommend? Aluminium ?

Made this today! This is my first time playing with yeast and it's pretty fun, feels like I unlocked a milestone on my baking journey :) Paired with Matcha glaze and it is so soft and fluffy when freshly eaten, really good :) Though the dough was reallyyyy sticky when I took it out of the fridge, had to flour it like crazy for me to get it off the cookie cutter, is this normal? Thanks! :)

The dough should not be that sticky. It could be your flour. Flours do not absorb liquids the same way. Some don't need less or more than what the recipe requires. I often tell bakers to gradually add the liquids and stop when the dough reaches the same consistency as shown in the video. When you say overnight how much time are we really supposed to keep the dough in fridge? Like if we don’t have the time to keep it overnight in the fridge. I’d be very grateful if you tell me for how much time(as in hours) should we keep the dough in fridge
