Sapphire comes in every color except red. Mother nature leaves beautiful surprises all over for us to discover.

It actually does come in red, but then it’s called a ruby :)

Absolutely, isn't it amazing what a little chromium will do to a sapphire. Too little and it is a pink sapphire or just enough and it is a ruby.

Red is called Ruby.

JTV has been a go-to website for me as a new collector. I am so appreciative of the information I have gotten from their site. I have based many of my investment decisions based on info from that page. Thank you to Mr Matthews. My favorite stone was the yellow sapphire. I have one in my collection, too. It is a similar color, though a good deal smaller. Please keep up the good work.

I've seen what mining for Sapphires in Sri Lanka was like from a National Geographic show called, "Mine Hunters". It focus's around a group of four people lead by a gem dealer named, Guy to work together mining for minerals from around the world in order to have valuable gemstones be made from them. Jimmy the brawn, John the explosives guy, Fred the brains, and Zack the mechanic. The point is that mining for Sapphires in Sri Lanka is quite remote, there are wooden structures and water pipes used to drain the water and stabilize the mines themselves. The people have good teamwork skills like when the miner is doing filling a container with dirt, he throws it up for the person to catch it and sift through the dirt.

I'm not really sure how you would be able to tell the difference between gems being heat treated now, manually, or the gem being heat treated in the earth, right after or some time after it was formed, by underground pockets of heat.
