This was exceedingly informative and fascinating, looking forward to watching part 2 later! Thank you for coming on the show and sharing your knowledge Mr. Matthews! I also want to say I liked when you used the flashlight on the emerald - sometimes the studio lighting can make the colors of the stones seem very different from how they actually are in the "closer look" part of the video, and I liked being able to see the different lighting coloring as you were handling it :)

Parure is the traditional term for a full suite. Less than 3 matched pieces is a demi parure. Natalie is actually wearing a demi parure en suite which means a partial matched set worn together.

Is there a difference between Boulder Opal and Fire Opal?
@gems5 жыл бұрын
Yes, fire opal is the name for a variety of opal that is yellowish to reddish. Its more notable sources are Brazil, Guatemala, and Mexico. Boulder opal is mined in Queensland, Australia, and is a form of opal that consists of ironstone or sandstone matrix interlaced with precious opal.
@jeffreyallen37965 жыл бұрын
Could not say it better myself. Fire Opal is Valcanic and can be cut into gemstones vs Sedimentary that would make a better cab.

Thank you Mr Matthews was a great watch and have now subscribed. I'm a opal man myself and how can I not be when there's so much here. Question are you a fan of koroit opal or yowah not opal patterns?
@gems4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching! I, too, love opals - yowah nut, boulder, Ethiopian, you name it! I do enjoy the patterns on opals in matrix because they can display such vivid and interesting images. To me, they often resemble maps or scenes of rivers flowing through land. But, my favorite part about opals overall is that every gem is incredibly unique. So, whether it is the pattern, play of color, or shape, you can be confident that your stone is one-of-a-kind.

Why do people in the U.S.A. keep making the mistake of saying that Brazilians are Spanish? No, they don't speak Spanish, they speak Portuguese, and people in Latin America aren't Spanish, we are Latinos. I would love to hear this guy speak more about his gems, he is obviously well versed in their field and very educated. I feel like he was being rushed a bit and I mean that With all due respect, I wish she wouldn't have interrupted him in the beginning. I would have liked to hear more about what he was going to say. About the stones.When they know how hard it can be, to mine these precious stones. Most people have a healthy respect when a gemoligist geologist, get involved with the mines and digging. It really shows just shows their dedication and the know how when it comes to their trade. It's so much more than just digging a hole in the ground. It's hard work and one of the most dangerous jobs out there. They risk their own lives just to get paid. It's how they put food on their tables, so it can be nerve racking to run an operation that can be so dangerous.

You spoke of inclusions. Is it not true that emeralds are known for their inclusions. The inclusions tell you where the emerald is from. Brazilian usually has black spots, Zambizian is lighter and Siberian is almost light grass green. They are all beautiful. I call brownish diamonds champagne diamonds.
@dayangmarikit68606 жыл бұрын
Champagne diamonds are lighter... chocolate diamonds on the other hand are a really chocolate brown color.
