I CANNOT recommend Hewitt ENOUGH!!!! After my check engine light came on and my 2011 Tundra and it went into limp mode I was PISSED! The truck has NEVER been repaired and the 1st problem is EMISSIONS! Even better when the dealer quoted OVER $3K! I ordered the Gen 2 module and harness, installed it, but still dead. I contacted Hewitt and they suggested ordering the sensors. installed still DEAD!!! Now I'm really losing it! I talked to a tech at Hewitt and he helped me diagnose a BROKEN wire on one of my connectors....Ordered a new connector and pigtail and BOOM! Up and RUNNING!!!! They allowed me to return the sensors and in my OPINION have shown what AMERICAN COMPANIES Customer Service SHOULD BE!!!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

Did this on my 2008 , the support was top notch. I am a long armed tall human so i had to improvise to get to the passenger side clip after trying the whole lay on top the engine. took a few hours to figure out. If you do not have a young small young person to do the passenger clip. So the 10mm bolt holding a small harness on top of the intake manifold once you remove it you can see the clip. to get to it the easiest way was to unclip the main harness from body on the passenger side, then there is a 2nd clip that is holding onto the engine via a 10mm bold. Once both are removed . You can push the harness around and reach the clip from the passanger side with no issue. I used small nose plier to push the tab down and pull. The harness clips are one one where you stick your small flat head screw driver and just pull. they are strong and they will clip back. Even if not its not a big issue, the 2nd clip is held in place with a 10mm which is easier to remove the bolt then removing the harness. Might help someone as this if know would take you 10 minutes to do the passenger side. the driver side is easy. The block off bolts were completely rusted so ended up getting a pdf from heweitt with some solution that i gave to my mechanic who charged me 100$ to get this done, If our pump is stuck open then this is needed to clear the error. Put 1000 miles in the July 4th weekend and got 2 mpg more than usual and it runs with alot pep. Smooth. Being a 2008 mine is out of the age for emission . i also got some gas smell in the cab which has disappeared

After going to two different mechanics because I got a PO419 code in my 2010 4.6L Tundra and was told by both I needed 2 new air pumps from Toyota only! I started researching alternatives. I found Hewitt-tech Gen-2 bypass a cheaper solution. I’m 79 years old and the biggest problem I had installing was separating the electrical connections. I thought putting the block off plates between the ASV and the air tubes was going to be difficult but once I found the bolts to remove from the air tube brackets and gently with a 10mm wrench loosened the flange bolts I was able to breath! Everything else was easy and once I tidied up with zip ties reconnected the negative cable to the battery I crossed my fingers and started the truck which immediately died(normal) after restarting the engine light was gone and I drove it around the neighborhood. All is good and when I had questions I emailed them to support with pictures and got a response right away. What was even scarier after was thinking about those mechanics I took my truck to and how much it was going to cost me if the air pumps did not fix the problem because there are other pieces to this puzzle as simple as a corroded terminal in one of the connectors. Great money saving product with helpful people Thanks Hewitt-tech.

I have a 2012 Tundra 4.0 Liter. I had codes 2440 and 2442. I contacted Paul from Hewitt. He guided me through the process of installing the Gen 2 bypass. I hadn't done much automotive work in the last decade due to age and injury so I was leary about doing the work myself. Once I got the kit and watched a few videos I went to work with the very clear and concise instructions. Turns out the intallation was about a 2 on a scale of 1-10. Really pretty simple. I had little issues accessing the the bolts and screws. The block off plates slid right in. After I completed the install I started her up and had a little bit of vibration for a minute or two. No codes. No idiot light. I drove it for 4 days on all conditions and have had no problem. Paul Hewitt replied to my emails promptly and in enough detail to make this easy. The service and support was as good as it gets. I saved myself a good 2 grand probably by using the Gen 2 bypass. Thanks Paul!

I installed the Gen-II on my 2011 Tundra 4.6L with relative ease and it only took two hours. Hewitt's KZbin videos helped immensely, plus a couple of others I found demonstrating the installation process. The CEL came back on shortly after installation of the bypass kit. I emailed Hewitt support and the owner replied immediately. That in itself spoke volumes to me about this company! Mr. Hewitt suggested I install the optional pressure sensor on Bank 1 to see if it would resolve the codes I was getting. I was impressed that he did not try to convince me into buying a pressure sensor for Bank 2 unless I truly needed it. Turns out I did indeed need the second pressure sensor which took all of one minute to install. Since then, my truck has been running like a champ! Finally, each time I placed an order I paid for overnight shipping from their location in SC to Dallas, TX and the part was sitting on my doorstep by 9:00 AM the next day. Again, great customer service. I highly recommend this company and their products!

Installed this kit on my 09 5.7L Tundra before I had any issues and so far works fine. This was a challenge but doable. What helped was taking off the front wheels ( you will need to do this anyway to install the block-off plates) and lower the front end down for easier access to the air switching valves. Use one of the tires to stand on instead of a plastic slip and slide step stool to stand on. To remove the switching valve (made in hell) connectors, I had a very small flat bladed screwdriver 1 1/2" length with a shank 3/4" long with a dia. .075 (a little over 1/6"). A nail would probably work. Insert this in the top hole back of the connector to override the latch. Now you can focus on the connector body without damaging the wires in the process. Practice this with the connector on the airbox (same one used on the valves). Hope this helps.

I just installed this kit on my 2012 Toyota Tundra 4.6L. It did the trick! The switching valves are in the engine bay rather than under the wheels for my truck. Loosening the bolts on the switching valves for the block plates installation, especially the one near the air filter, were the toughest parts of the install for me. In response to a P2443 code, I installed Hewitt's Gen 2 Bypass Kit in my 2007 Tundra a couple of weeks ago and fixed the problem. Spray the bolts in the wheel well several times during the evening where you install the block plates and let them sit overnight, and loosened mine in the morning, no problem. And I'm in the rust belt and my truck is 16 years old. Regarding the two final electrical connections at the rear of the motor, Practice undoing on the new ones that comes with the kit, or practice on the one mounted on your air cleaner housing. Put a trouble light back there because if you can get a visual on it, it really helps. The drivers side is easier to access and depress, it's sitting right at the corner. If you have trouble depressing the clip, my thumb's kind of fat and wide so I taped a one inch long piece of very small dowelling up the centre of my thumb, a little piece of a twig off a tree would work fine. The passenger side, I threw a cushion down and climbed up there and I could barely see the clip past the wiring harness, but good enough to get a dental pick on it with my right hand, lift the locking clip just high enough to clear, and with my left hand in place and my fingertips just able to grab the connector, pull it apart...and Bob's your Uncle! Then hooking up the kit connectors is easy and away you go! Tech support is outstanding if you need help!

I had to replace the passenger side pump on my 07 4.7 tundra a few years back. Cost me about $400 doing it myself. Didn’t know anything about Hewitt back then and didn’t know the problem could reoccur because of terrible design by Toyota. Got another code for a pressure sensor (p2438) this week and went into limp mode. Got the double sensor harness bypass and SAIS bypass (gen 1). Putting the harnesses on and fishing the starter relay took all of 10 minutes. The exhaust block off took about an hour just because of the tight space on the passenger pump. Cleared the codes and now it runs like a top. It’s a bummer a company like Hewitt had to fix a significant issue from Toyota…. Kudos to Hewitt. Suggestion: Until you get the connector block off plug solution worked out, if you are just going to tape off that connector, pack it with dielectric grease first. That will make sure that no moisture forms inside and starts corroding it.

*UPDATE the plug blanks are shipping with the kits.* Hey Remy, The plug molds are in production. The grease is a good suggestion if anyone ever thinks they may go back to using the SAIS. Just completed the install on my 2008 5.7 Tundra. As advertised the Passenger Side plug is a bear. I used a hand mirror to visualize the plug and went from the front... just couldn't do it. Son in law has smaller hands and he did it in like 30 seconds. I believe Mr. Hewitt's small frame skinny arms tech in the video is on the passenger side in the demo for a reason lol! I had previously bought the competitors (Ruitech) unit and installed but it failed after a year and went again into limp mode. After emailing Tim (owner) he sent back that they didn't sell their units for 2008 5.7s as it would inevitably fail (his words). I sheared the heads off of 2 of them, can't believe those bolts extend into the wheel well exposed to salt. My bracket is held on with 1 bolt and a few attachments to wiring harness clips. Will need to get them drilled out in the future. Backoff plates required loosening all three 12mm bolts holding the ASVs on the engine block. Once the ASV is loose, you can open up a gap just big enough for the block off plates to install. First start of the engine was a success, we will see how this goes after a few cold overnights but so far...very impressed.
@Hewitt-tech Жыл бұрын
Ahh... yes, I have run into trouble with the fender bolts before. I know this doesn't help now but may help someone else, if you hit the exposed threads really well with a wire brush/wheel and some penetrating oil it will help a lot in removing them. Drilling through or grinding the weld nut off and usign a stainless bolt with the nut on the topside would work well for that. On the 4.6L there is that one clamp that holds the air tube down to the top of the valve cover. We found it easiest to We found it easiest to just remove that bolt and carefully pry between the back of the cylinder and the air tube to open that gap. Loosening the air valve is a good and will help give you some more room as well. Getting the ASV bolted back down with the plate installed is a lot trickier if you remove the bolts holding down the ASV. Glad you were able to get it all installed without too much trouble though and that it is working. If you need anything just let us know. Paul

I just completed installing this on my 2012 sequoia with the 5.7 engine. Gotta say the connection to the driver's side pump was extremely hard and did not go like the video. I found it helped removing the line he said but also i loosened the holders for the main wiring harness which was really hindering me from getting my hand on the clip. My clip was very hard to depress probably due to age. For the passenger side i used a picc and screwdriver to disconnect the wires. The picc raised the retaining clip and flat head pushed it off. The wifes little hand helped connect hewitts connection to the valve. I also got the caps installed (driver side was worst) and so far so good. No codes and shes running fine.

They were not kidding about getting the clips off between the engine and firewall on the 5.7 L Everything else was easy, sprayed down the flange bolts a couple times 2 days before and they came off very easily. Toyota would not honor the warranty to replace the SAIS in my 2012 Tacoma 4.0L because it was Rebuilt, and wanted over $2k to fix it. I could have ordered the part and replaced it myself probably, but it still was going to be over $500, and this was going to be the first time fixing something with the engine myself. AND I read reviews that part goes bad every 10k miles or so in ‘12 Tacomas because of bad design, so I decided to take my chances with the SAIS Bypass kit instead. Yes, yes, and yes. It paid off. It was not easy for me to figure out where everything had to connect to (it took me several hours overall), but once figured out, you’ll realize it wasn’t that difficult. The exhaust plates that come with the package are identical, but I came to learn that one of the SAIS ports in my vehicle was modified because that side was where it was rebuilt. All I had to do was get a metal file and grind one of the plates down a little to make it fit, tighten it back on, done. With the 2012 model you also may not need to install the purple relay wire they give you, but just follow the directions included in the package, and Customer Support will let you know if that’s the case. They were as quick and helpful as advertised. If you have any questions or problems, just contact them however you like. I cleared the CEL codes by disconnecting the battery, and have been running it for over three weeks now. No limp-mode, starts beautifully, runs great. Saved me big $$$ and I never have to worry about the part again. Thank you!

Hey Andrew, Glad you got it all figured out, thanks for the feedback. Just so people don't get confused, you got one of our Gen-1 V54H kits, not a Gen-II kit shown in this video. The Gen-II would have been a much easier option for your 4.0L Tacoma than the V54H. The V54H kit connects to your MAF sensor and ECT sensor which on the Tacoma 4.0L is a trick to get to down the back of the engine. The Gen-II unit install on your would have taken 10-15 min..it replaces the air injection driver like in this video but plugs into both your air switching valves which are right there in the open on the passenger side of the engine. Just let us know if we can help with anything else. Thanks, Paul

@Hewitt-tech3 жыл бұрын
It was a good call trying your factory valves to see if their pressure sensors were still good! We have recommended trying that on other engines than the 5.7L because the valves are easier to change on them. We typically recommend our pressure sensor addons to save having to replace the valves on any of the engines. The Gen2 must use an actual pressure sensor for each valve while the Gen1 kits we can use just a jumper harness or a harness with a pressure sensor if both are bad. Just let us know if you need anything else. Paul

Just got done with the install. It's gonna a take 500 tries for some of us to unplug the 2 wires behind the manifold but don't give up. It will work. Put on knee protection and go up over the engine and feel your way around the plug cause you can't see it and need to feel your way around it. *** the hardest part was separating the flanges to put in the blocking plate. I spent hours until I got a floor jack and jacked up the stick that was pushing on the stud. The trick was to have the middle of the stick backed into break/disk so when I jack it up it won't pop off or push the jack back. Use hard wood cause I pushed it almost to breaking point.

I have been trying to get the harness connections undone on the AVS for over an hour. The 1 hour install estimate is very optimistic, the passenger side is very difficult to reach if you have large hands. I’m probably going to have to remove and or move a lot more of the factory main wiring harness anchors to get at the bank 2 ASV connection.
@Hewitt-tech Жыл бұрын
Sorry you are having or had a hard time with the connectors. The passenger side in particular on the 5.7L certainly can be difficult, even for an experienced mech/tech. Unfortunately, it is what it is which is why we warn about it in the video and instructions and point out some things you can remove and unbolt to get a little more room. No sugarcoating there. A topside creeper or placing several layers of cardboard on top of the engine bay you can lay on helps a lot so you don't have to support yourself with your hands. I find laying the tip of a small flat headed screwdriver on top of the tab really helps depress the locking tab and makes it easier to pull the connectors off. You can also use a long screwdriver or blunt punch/ round file to depress the tab and use long reach needle nose pliers or another long screwdriver to catch the side lip of the connector to push-pull the connector off. Just be really careful not to damage the wiring. If we can help with anything just give us a call.

@Hewitt-tech Жыл бұрын
@hinds90 In order to remove the Air Switching Valves located on either sider of the engine you will need a full delete kit. That is the Gen 2 Bypass Kit and 2 Pressure Sensor Addons. However, if you only have the Bypass Kit then they will need to remain on the vehicle. This is because there is a pressure sensor inside the Air Switching Valve the ECM is still reading. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to give us a call.

@@Hewitt-tech yep. So I'd just need the pressure switches. I'd like to get rid of them all together. Makes it easier to get to the coils and plugs.
@Hewitt-tech Жыл бұрын
@@BullseyeMetalWerks Correct. You can get two of our pressure sensors add-ons to accomplish that, one to replace each of the air switching valves. If your air valves/sensors are still good, you can also cut the sensors off the air switching valves and get rid of the rest of the valve. They have to be the factory type of valve with the metal body and the black plastic top where the plug is to do this. If you cut all the way through the square black plastic body section as close to the metal valve body what remains is the sensor/connector. When doing so you will cut through the plastic and will cut two wires but those are only for the solenoid coil portion which are not connected or used with the Gen2 kit anyways.

@Hewitt-tech3 жыл бұрын
The module and plate installations are covered separately because they both vary according to engine and year. The block off plates are an integral part of the overall bypass solution and may not be 100% required for every instance. However, they are always recommended to be installed with the module and are the only thing that can prevent the valves from leaking in the future if they are not currently. If you do not currently have valve stuck open codes you can install the module first and see where that gets you but it always best to install them so you don't have to worry about the valves later on. If you don't install them just make sure to put them in your glovebox with the instructions because if you get a valve stuck open code later you will need to install them at that point and clear the codes(s) again.

How long can this kits last before it fails to buy another one, or is it a life time kits that won't fail forever
@Hewitt-tech2 жыл бұрын
Our kits are engineered and designed with the best available automotive grade devices and components with the expectation they will last the life of the vehicle. They are however still electronics which is why we cover all of our kits with a non-transferable limited lifetime warranty. If there is a problem this is where our full technical support takes over. If after troubleshooting we determine the unit has failed under normal operating conditions and use, we will replace it for as long as you own the vehicle.

the key to connecting the passenger line is to reach it from the FRONT of the vehicle. to unplug the factory requires two actions...depress the release on the plug and push the plug off the connection. very awkward working from the passenger side. I'm right handed. I moved to the front of the engine. from that position I could reach the plug and complete the maneuver almost effortlessly. The driver side wasn't too bad.
@Hewitt-tech Жыл бұрын
@shcaskey We really appreciate you taking the time to provide your installation tip. Everyone experience is a little different and really helps when customers provide what worked for them. It can be a little tricky when trying to unlatch and remove the factory connect all the while not trying to pull our any pins. Well done and please let us know if there is anything else we can assist with.

Do you think you could do a video on a gen2 for the 06 4.7 Tundra?
@Hewitt-tech2 жыл бұрын
I have one filmed but need to edit and re-film some portions of it. Most all of my time this last year has been re-engineering to solve supply chain issues. The instructions are really good though as they were done at the same time as the original filming.

About to order one of these for my 07 Will this turn my check engine light off? What are the block off plates for?
@Hewitt-tech2 жыл бұрын
The Gen2 kits can take care of most of the SAIS codes that you may have but there are some exceptions. Once everything is installed you will need to clear the codes by resetting the ECM with either an OBDII tool or by disconnecting the neg. battery terminal for at least 2 min. to turn off the CEL. The block off plates are to permanently close the air switching valves and are used to prevent valve stuck open codes. Please check out the blogs and other information on our website: hewitt-tech.com Give us a call Toll Free and we would be glad to help make sure you get what you need and can answer all your questions or shoot us an email. 1-844-307-7671 support@hewitt-tech.com

So there is not two different places to 🔌 plug each harness into for each bank just one? That is the one unplugged factory valve fitting is plugged into with the kits plug and the other plug plugs into the unplugged factory harness plug?
@Hewitt-tech Жыл бұрын
The Gen2 harness essentially 'T's into the factory harness and ASV for each bank. Referencing 1 bank at a time, there are two connectors on the Gen2 harness for each bank. Once you disconnect the ASV, the factory harness connector and the ASV will be open. The connectors for each bank are a mated pair. One connector of that bank of the Gen2 harness will plug into the open factory harness and the other will plug back onto the ASV. If you have any more questions please give us a call or email us and we can walk you through it.
@Hewitt-tech Жыл бұрын
@Stuarthicks2692 Think of the Bypass Harness as a middle man. It go in between the Air Switching Valve and Factory Wiring harness. The Connectors on the Bypass Harness are male and female so the connections will only mate one way. If you have any additional question happy to help you can give us a call at (844) 307-7671 or send an email to support@hewitt-tech.com

I had this kit installed about a year ago in an 08 5.7 sequoia. Today the p2440 displayed on dash unit. Secondary air injection valve is stuck open. How do you fix?
@Hewitt-tech3 ай бұрын
Did you install the exhaust block off plates that came with the kit? If not that is the first thing to do and clear the code(s) again. A valve stuck open code WITH the plates installed is usually indicative of a damaged pressure sensor. Please contact us direct by phone, email or the contact us page of our website and we can help troubleshoot. If it is a damaged pressure sensor, we have Pressure Sensor Replacement Addon that will take care of this WITHOUT the labor of removing the intake manifold to replace the expensive air switching valve set.

Hey guys, 08 Toyota tundra 5.7 120k throwing P2442 code, truck in limp mode. I don't have to pass any emission test. Considering gen 2 kit but have one question, does it hurt the vehicle in any way to run it with the bypass kit installed? I was planning to keep this truck for a long time before this
@Hewitt-tech3 жыл бұрын
The Gen2 bypass kit will not affect your vehicle negatively in any way. On your vehicle the SAIS will only operate on a cold soak start (Off for 7hrs or more). Not running the system on that start is no different than starting it cold throughout the day. Our bypass kits have been installed on vehicles for almost 10 years now with no issues.

Hey Steven, sorry to hear if you are having problems with the secondary air injection again. @Hewitt-tech4 ай бұрын
The two things should not be related. Give us a call or email us with your specific information and the exact trouble codes you are getting. Sometimes when resetting the ECM on vehicles that are in need of a tuneup or the 02 Sensors replaced can cause the codes to trip. This is because the computer cannot tune back to where it was fast enough before the code monitors catch the problem.

Hey, I bought and installed the product on my 2010 tundra v8 4.6 and it worked great for a year or so. But now the lights are blinking again, and it is stuck in limp mode. It pulled the code P2442 stuck air injection pump. It also pulled a code for the 8 cylinder so I replaced the coil.
@Hewitt-tech9 ай бұрын
Please give us a call Toll Free 1-844-307-7671 or email us directly at Support@hewitt-tech.com The P2442 is a Bank2 Air Switching Valve Stuck Open Code. If you did not install the block off plates you will need to get them installed and clear the codes again. If can verify that you do have the plates installed, this usually indicates the pressure sensor in that valve has failed. They can be damaged by continuing to drive the vehicle with the valve stuck open codes for a while before installing the kit. It doesn't happen often but the damage can also show up much later. There is also the possibility the sensor just failed but we usually only see that with aftermarket parts and not the factory Toyota sensors. We have kit add-ons for the sensors depending on which kit you are using to take care of this without having to replace the air switching valve. Give us a call and we can hep troubleshoot and get you what you need.

After installing this kit, is there any problems with removing the two air pumps under the front passeneger fender? Just to clean up the engine bay a little?

With the Gen2 kit installed the air pumps can be removed. They are disconnected at the air injection control driver and their connectors capped off at the Gen2 unit.
