Great video. Looking forward to the update. FYI, you can change the pin box to get the extra clearance. There is another row of holes below the ones you used - that would give you the 1.5” - 2” extra height.

That is one beautiful Montana. The new setup of yours would be my preference. I have a new long bed F350 dually and this GenY looks like it would be so much easier to work with than the Companion. Congrats! Looking forward to your follow-up review.

You could have put the hitch in a lower set of holes and that would have made more room between your camper and bed rails.

I have the same style truck with the short bed. How often do you run into a situation where you get close to your cab when turning to maneuver in or out of spaces. I have a sliding hitch and am looking at replacing it with this type of goose neck hitch.

While every situation is different, I have been all over the country to many campgrounds and never needed to turn 90 degrees. Sometimes it has gotten close if backing up in a tight space, but never had an issue. I had a BW slider and never used it. Also, there are a couple of different options to move the gooseneck back. The one I have in this video, and Gen Y also makes one.

How tight of a turn can you make megacab ( shortbed ) on goose ball ?

Full lock going forward. reverse is where you have to be careful.

Only thing I would be concerned about would be how close the pin box gets to your sides when turning. Gen Y's site has some really specific measurements on it I would definitely check those out. Those Ram boxes can make things tough. I don't have this truck/camper setup anymore or I would measure for you.

That’s not a weatherproof electrical box. That’s a residential or commercial enclosure for indoor use. That has no business on the front of a camper. I can absolutely believe the shitty trailer manufacturing company used the cheapest wrong part available.

Have you tried dropping the hitch to the lower bolt pattern to give you more bed rail clearance? My buddy has the same hitch and used the lower bolt pattern to help with more bed rail clearance

I got the BW extension and it works really well for bed rail clearance and cab clearance. Going to do a video soon on that and a 2k mile review of the hitch.

Watched both your videos and have a question.. Was lowering the hitch on the camper itself not a option instead of buying a taller ball? I have a 22 Ram 3500 dually but not a mega and we have a Montana 5th wheel. I just sold my B&W slider and waiting on the Gen Y to arrive so I can install it. I think if I mount the hitch in the lowest holes I’ll have more clearance on the bed

The ball was more for the offset not height. The height was a little bonus, but I needed it mainly because I have a mega and it was too close to the cab. That ball pushed it back four inches. Sounds like you'll have plenty of bed space. Your bed rail height should be close to what I have in the middle holes so if you want more you could definitely go with the lowest one. Once mine was in, I didn't want to do it again, lol.

How tall is your bed rail height on that ram dully? I have a 2010 ram srw at 60 inches not sure if a gen y would work on it

Well....I guess anything is possible, but the hitch weighs around 250#. The other problem with my camper is that it was a tight fit to get it between the mounting points on the camper. If you have to use the spacer plates like I did that makes it even worse. I would say that if you had no spacer plates and a world's strongest man competitor it could possibly be done.

How do you like the hitch so far? I am looking at this one as an option. And are you confident in the latch system?

The latch system seems very secure. It gives you a nice loud click when it's locked so there is no guessing. So far, so good. I will do a video soon on my thoughts on the hitch. I've put about 2k miles on it so far.

@@whateverfits1978 I feel like there should be some type of lock but what do I know lol. I just really need my bed clear after unhooking. We just bought our trailer and the reese goosebox isnt compatible with the new wingset so this is looking like my only option right now.

Looking forward to hearing your thought on the hitch. I just ordered my new 5th wheel and I think this hitch is what I will go with. I am especially interested in turning clearance with the short bed. I have a similar truck.

@@whateverfits1978 Ok, thanks. I have the same 6’4 short bed in a Ram 2500 and I was looking to get this hitch for my 36 ft fifth wheel RV. I was worried about not clearing truck cab in sharp turns but it seems like that won’t be a problem if you’re already doing it with no problem.
