He was a big Mott the Hoople fan who were about to disband through lack of success. He offerred them " Suffragette City" which they declined. He then wrote them " All the Young Dudes" and gifted it to them. The rest, as they say, is history!

I was a senior in High School when this song came out, my draft lottery number was TWO…I expected an invitation from my government any day to join the Army & go to Viet Nam…then the US Congress ended the draft…I was among the 1st group of 18 year old boys NOT inducted.
