Hi, I'm not in this documentary but I ran across your comment. I was assigned female at birth and since the time I knew the difference between boy and girl (about 3 or 4 years old, when I could dress myself.) I knew I wasn't a girl. I didn't have a clue what a transgender person was until I was 23 years old, and a lightbulb immediately came on and I knew I had to transition. I can tell you I absolutely wouldn't be here right now if I hadn't. I've been taking testosterone and living my life as 100% me for over 14 years now and it was absolutely the best thing I've ever done. I still need a surgical procedure or 2 to really get the body I would feel comfortable in, but like I said I wouldn't be here if I hadn't transitioned. Of course this is just my experience, but I can tell you I know a lot of transgender people and I have never met one who regretted transition.

It is unfortunate that we know so little about ourselves, our Creator, and why we were created. If good doesn’t make mistakes - and we are confused about our gender the true issue is determining why we are confused… Were we ever traumatized at a young age. Did an adult we loved show more care for a specific gender? Did we hear a parent speak negatively often about men or women. This issue is deeper than it appears & I would never support my child in changing their gender without giving therapy a change to sort through what is really going on. I have heard waaay too many stories of people regretting changing their gender & thinking to harm themselves because they cannot find happiness.

I knew in 1969 at 16 years old I wanted to transition. Society said I couldn't. Now coming up to 68, on HRT since November 2018. They say it's never too late but I'm not convinced. The changes haven't been what I expected them to be. I look with longing at young trans girls now, and see what I could have and should have been. I had breast augmentation last November and was a big boost to actually have something female. I should have had an orchiectomy after I started but no one suggested it and I never thought. There isn't much left of my testes now anyway and bottom surgery will remove what's left. I am going to have all the surgeries I need so I can finally look and feel like the woman I was meant to be. What I do hear is kids who have no prior behavioral or mental health issues developing depression and misbehaving when they are being denied hormone blockers. The supposed "whistleblower" here at StL childrens hospital turned out to be a liar, but that didn't stop people from calling in bomb threats and the state banning care for trans kids.

Only times that I can think I really feel different than my husband is while on my period, while pregnant with our kids, breast feeding our kids, have pms. All these times no amount of surgery could create. There is no "feeling like a woman" type of feeling as far as I know. I'm a woman, but not extremely feminine in that I don't wear makeup and own exactly one dress and one skirt which hasn't seen the light in a very long time. Still, I am a woman, its just a biological fact. Could live my life however and in today's world follow whatever career no matter if you're a man or a woman. Even if I grow facial hair or didn't bear children, I would still be a woman. It's about being happy in your own skin. You don't see yourself unless you're in front of the mirror and no one should worry so much what others think or see when they're with you. This is definitely a mental health problem, not a physical problem. Very sorry for those afflicted and even more so their families. They said multiple times there’s no turning back. I didn’t like that. There have been multiple trans people who have de transitioned, it’s not healthy to say you can’t detransition. Your journey is your own. If you feel like it’s not what you wanted you can change back. You shouldn’t go into transition with that mindset but don’t feel like you can’t change back if you feel it’s not right for you anymore. Unfortunately we are always chasing more more and we have an empty feeling within and some people try to fill that by transitioning when it wasn’t what they needed originally.

Well trans people dont do that out of vanity, unlike most people in the world. They are teaching humanity how to be true to ourselves no matter how we get accepted by the outside world. It is a true definition of heroism and courage, going after the ultimate truth of who they are, no matter how the illusion can blind us, which is this physical world. Trans people are following their spirit, not their body (illusion). We are the spirits first, which is invisible, but can be felt.

@@Shalanaya You mention ‘ultimate truth’ and ‘illusion’ … Ultimate truth is that human beings are the biological gender that their DNA, chromosomes define them to be. @@orange70383 i say let them dress and identify as they please. It doesn't affect you. And you can't argue with "well they want to use my bathrooms and thats dangerous to my safety" because if you think about it the gay population is higher than the trans population, and gay people still use "your bathroom." So if you are scared of getting touched or as*ulted by trans people in "your bathroom," you have a higher chance of it happening by a gay person than a trans person. But we don't see anyone trying to discriminate gays out of the bathrooms because its so extreme that even the far-rights (trump lovers) wouldn't be up for that. So they are discriminating against who is an easy target for them. This whole thing is not about "protecting people," its about power and discrimination. If you don't see that then obviously you have zero common sense. p.s. most trans people are attracted to the gender they were born with (more specifically with trans females, you see them with males SO MUCH MORE) so they won't touch you ciswomen (otherwise known as karens)

I'm a feminine woman and i shave my face because makeup looks better without the peach fuzz. It doesn't feel masculine at all for me to shave my face, i guess that's psychological. You can look at these two people and immediately tell what gender they are. But they have to realize that even if they are fully accepted socially as the opposite gender they can never become the opposite gender. I think it's not fair to let people believe this is an option.
@RB-tq4uu Жыл бұрын
Shaving peach fuzz is different to shaving the stubble that taking testosterone causes. It probably doesn't feel masculine to you because you feel like a 'feminine woman' so that's understandable. Both men and women can shave and can have different feelings about shaving. I don't think gender is as rigid as it's often presented as. There's plenty of grey areas and I think society would benefit from not seeing men and women as such fixed, opposing groups. Intersex people shouldn't be forced to choose one or the other if they don't want to. Also I think most transgender people have a biological reason for being transgender. Studies have shown that transgender people's brains more closely match the structure of the gender they say they are and not the one they were assigned at birth. So really they're having a medical procedure to look more like the gender they actually are and not the 'opposite gender'.

I appreciate that this documentary talks about genitalia. I am so used to trans people going on television shows to talk about being trans and then getting offended when people ask about that, like that's not the number one thing everyone is wondering. And not just cis people - someone who is contemplating transitioning would probably feel relieved to be able to hear this discussed openly.

If I believe that I am really a tree, and even though I start wearing bark and leaves on me to help people believe that I am a tree, in reality, I cannot ever BE a tree, and not only am I fooling myself, but I am asking others to be fooled as well. I have great empathy for people who believe they are the wrong gender and have or will "remedy" that feeling, but the foundational truth is that such a change is no more possible that a desire to become an Oak or a Walnut. Sometimes truth is difficult to accept, but accepting truth is your first step to return to mental health.

Category error. You are associating human gender with changing from human to another life-form, and all in the service of what agenda? "Bringing the body in line with the brain" is the phrase used toward the end. Did you watch it? We know the brain is a complex organ. Given the amazing things it can do, given what neuroscience has discovered about the human brain, there is nothing very far-fetched about the idea that our brains may be wired toward a gender not expressed by our physical anatomy. You could as easily be denying the existence of any sexual orientation other than your own. Myopic of you.

@@aaronrosenberg6633 Aaron, we do not live in a theoretical world. I use the tree analogy to show the utter absurdity of believing you can change a gender. It is no more possible than flapping your arms and expecting to fly, just because you believe it to be so. If you don't like the illustration, look around. The world is against the notion that everything is fluid. A lot of people make that mistake. Changing appearance or cutting something off does not change what you are, despite a fervent belief to the contrary. It just may be the ultimate narcissism.

@@arthouston7361 " we do not live in a theoretical world." Nobody said we do. "I use the tree analogy to show the utter absurdity of believing you can change a gender." And yet the utter absurdity is the analogy itself. "It is no more possible than flapping your arms and expecting to fly, just because you believe it to be so." Another absurd analogy, completely useless for describing human gender. Bringing the body in line with the brain is, in fact, not changing gender at all. " If you don't like the illustration, look around. The world is against the notion that everything is fluid." So you're rallying "the world" to support your absurd claims? "A lot of people make that mistake. Changing appearance or cutting something off does not change what you are," No, it simply brings the body more in line with the brain, which itself can be wired toward a gender that is not expressed by sexual anatomy. " despite a fervent belief to the contrary. It just may be the ultimate narcissism." The narcissism is all yours, I'm afraid. Denying others' realities based on your incredulity and lack of knowledge is the ultimate act of narcissism. It's important for you to tell others who they are. This much is clear. What is not clear is what little secrets you're hiding, what developmental experiences you had to slant your thinking is such an unfortunate direction.

There's a difference between "believe" and "identify". Believe is what you think without proof. Those thoughts may or may not be realistic. Identity is who you are without thinking about it. To identify as something means you think like that thing. The natural action is to cloth and behave according to that identity. Therefore to identify as a tree or a car or a jet is impossible because you would be unable to communicate with humans. They would label you a "vegetable." But you can believe you are a tree. People believe stranger things.
@arthouston73613 жыл бұрын
@@r-platt Your use of the word 'identity" is misplaced. An identity is a set of attributes that any reasonable person, or predominate persons would agree is the characterization of a person. In the case of gender, it is a physical reality, and not a set of mental ideas. An identity is not something you think instantaneously. That is what is called a delusion. When you have an instantaneous feeling that is not what you actually are, you are having an event of metal dissociation, and that is what people used to call crazy, but crazy is not sufficiently precise. If you think or "identify" incorrectly, IE, not in sync with reality, you are suffering from an impairment that is preventing you from dealing with who you actually are, and instead, your mind is telling you that the truth is something else. Of course, that is your mind lying to you.

They can “transform” back and forth (this “journey” is not without “return,” despite the concluding phrase; there are more and more cases of people detransitioning (or trying to) to their original forms), but one thing is certain: despite changing “shells” and messing with hormonal therapies, they cannot change whatever they are genetically. And all that they are after is “passing”???

No, it's not "all they are after". They are after inner peace and being comfortable in their own skin. It's about having their body match what's in their brain and hearts. Who cares about their chromosomes? And what difference does it make in your life? I don't understand it either, and I will never know how they feel, but I can be tolerant and accepting. I don't have to make it work fr them by making mean and judgmental comments that will make them feel even worse. They go through enough already.

@@JillyBean_1987 don’t be naive, most are not happy long term. Most male transgender women are sexually curious to experience being a woman. @@beanj580 Which? That there are no differences between male and female? I'm 59. During the Women's LIberation movement in the 70s that was one of the arguments--that a woman could do anything a man could do because there's no difference. Equal in all respects. I don't know if I can explain this well. We were told to raise our boys with dolls and our girls with trucks, to teach our sons to cry and our girls to be tough. We were to teach boys to be feminized and our girls to get dirty. It was fighting the stereotype that girls were, well, girly and boys would be boys. Go to 14:20 to hear the doctor say that she has found that many of the stereotypes have turned out to be true. Interesting.

@@jebsmith323 I agree there are clear and obvious differences between male and female. Medically speaking its imperative to acknowledge there are differences. My son is 5 and I never encouraged or discouraged him from playing with certain toys or favoring certain colors, etc. He has done all that on his own. He gravitated towards trucks, hates the color pink, won't play with dolls, etc. It's not something taught but a natural instinct for boys and girls to like what they call gender specific preferences. It's natural and this whole nonsense that it's only taught is bull.

@@beanj580 I agree. My daughters have never been "girly girls" as they call it, but they wear dresses when they want to and care about their appearance. They also climbed into dark holes and caught frogs and small snakes (!). My youngest daughter is a Boy Scout. She camps for days in the woods without running water or bathrooms and hikes miles carrying a heavy pack laughing the whole way. Then she comes home, takes a shower and a nap with her stuffed bunny. I had an intersexed friend. We grew up in the same church and I listened to him talk about his condition many times. I understand that sometimes there is a physical, biological issue that needs to be addressed, but there is another mental condition in which a person thinks his hand or leg does not belong on his body. This causes huge stress for them, yet, doctors don't cut off a leg just because someone wants it gone. Body dysmorphia is a real mental illness.
