18:50 Another curious aspect to the nature-nurture debate in the game to add is that Snake (the recessive gene clone) defeated Liquid (the dominant gene clone) because his willpower, desire to live, and the experiences he has gave him more ability and determination to face a genetically superior individual; in other words, nature does not always decide who is the strongest, but rather that oneself, regardless of his genetic structure, can surely create a better person, be mentaly and spiritualy stronger than the genetically determined ones.

@wolfwangdelosmonteros71344 жыл бұрын
@@Hack_The_Planet_ I never said they were bad games, even when I personally think they are. MGS4 is a cronological sequel of a game that doesn't need a one. It goes and explains things that doesn't need an answer and actively ruins the mistery created in MGS2, damaging the oniric and nightmarish feeling present in that game. The discussion that existed before MGS4 even questioned if anything in that game actually happened, thanks to the surreal ending and questionable occurrences. This makes the endings of MGS and MGS2 to be more open. The twist in MGSV is quite similar to the one in MGS2, it's just reverse. In MGS2 the player helps the patriots to control the United States, this is a critic to the desire of the player of being Solid Snake, and ends when Raiden decides to trow away the control of the player (kind of literally). MGSV goes and congratulates the player. -congratulations player, you are Big Boss. A puppet that happily accepts his role in perpetuating war. Both ideas exiting in the same saga weakens both messages. But thats just an interpretation. The real damage goes when it tries to explain the powers we see in MGS3 with vocal cord parasites, the same problem with nanomachines in MGS4. But then again, this is just my reasoning and interpretation, don't be foolish.

@@wolfwangdelosmonteros7134 you should try replaying 2, it's not as profound as you remember. 4 is the crutch 2 now stands on to be considered a good game just like 5 explains why there are three big bosses and who in the first game big boss was a super big bad evil guy but in solid snake and mgs3 he's actually a pretty awesome hero man. I think you've fatally misunderstood the intention of these games and become blinded by nostalgia.

It takes a lot of Faith to fight for what you believe in. I envy that I think. Growing up, it always seemed like Faith or Pride in anything was misplaced. Nationality, Race, Religion, Heritage, Wealth, Gender, even the generation I was born into. It always felt like the world wanted me to be ashamed of everything I was. Or rather those were the memes I was exposed to. It makes Hatred feel so...natural. I believe that Living and Fighting for your own interests, takes a lot of Faith. It probably takes even more so to do it with Love and Honor.

Metal Gear Solid is my favourite game of all time. Maybe it´s nostalgia for being the first game I couldn´t stop playing over and over again, or maybe it´s because since I was 7 I knew this was a masterpiece. Regardless of the reason, I always find a new reason to keep breathing thanks to this game, because if Solid Snake decided to use his skills for a cause of his choice, then what is stopping me from doing the same

I know it's an old comment but I just have to agree with you. I was 7 or 8 when this game came out and it was the first game that really made me think of concepts outside of the game. Also the first game where it was like taking control of the protagonist of an action movie, it was so cool at the time. I will never forget the hours of my life spent on Shadow Moses island

Dude, I love your videos! I speak a lot about the MGS saga on my channel too, which is Brazilian. But I disagree with the part where you mention that Big Boss fought only for money. The concept of Outer Heaven, went far beyond than just a mercenary military group, and money, was just one of the variables to put your plans into practice. I think his narrative impoverishes, when you puts the Patriots 'AI so sideways in the plot, and most of the characters' motivations come from the egalitarian vision of overthrowing AI's power and mental control, which as we well know, is an ideological point in common in all Snakes. In addition, I wish you success, continue with the great work, sincere greetings from Brazil!

“Responsible for sabotaging several bipedal tanks,“ is kind of a great line. I mean, it’s accurate, it’s descriptive, it also kind of sits right in the center of the mixed seriousness/silliness of Metal Gear. I am imagining a normal job interview where Snake has that on his resume. “So, Mr....Snake? Dave Snake? Under, ‘responsibilities of your previous employment,’ you have, ‘sabotaging several bipedal tanks?’ Well, I think that makes you perfectly qualified for the geek squad. Welcome aboard Mr. Snake! Can we call ya Dave? David? Davy?”

Wow. I’ve seen every metal gear retrospective you can think of: superbunnyhop, Matthewmatosis, gametrailers, etc. You did a great job and really brought something new to the table. I’m a clinical psychologist and often think of the nature/nurture debate and how it impacts my own life, my clients, and our search for identity. Its been a common theme with overcoming trauma when talking to clients, which you beautifully displayed in the video. How you relate with your pain. Am I am who I am because of it or in spite of it? Snake definitely is a tragic hero. Great job. Subscribed and belled. Can’t wait for the next one.

18:40 for anyone who doesn't know, in Japanese dominant and recessive genes are instead referred to as superior and inferior. So when liquid says that snake is the superior clone, that's not actually correct, that's just his assumption based on a quirk in the Japanese language. There is no proven basis for his argument, it's all in his head.

The 8 Metal Gear Games Kojima directed are pretty much perfect. They are also an amazing cross-section of video game history. I recently booted up MGSV again and I think I‘ve never played a more well-designed action game. I know the main missions often don’t have a lot going on in terms of story and feel redundant, but gameplay wise, they are all both uniquely designed and versatile. Every time I play a mission I find a new route or a new detail I hadn’t noticed before.

I've thought of that a fair bit actually, MGS commenting on both the world and itself at the same time in various ways. Some of it probably _is_ brilliant, while other things are probably just me giving the game too much credit. But that's the cool thing about art... so many questions.

MGS is my favorite game of all time and it discusses nature vs nurture masterfully in many levels. The genetics per se are the only thing that can't be taken so seriously, just because a gene (more correctly, an allele) is recessive, it doesn't mean it will grant you an "inferior" trait in comparison to its dominant counterpart
@tomaspeixinho44474 жыл бұрын
Liked the video very much. I love that there's still a community that keeps metal gear alive. I have many thoughts on your video, but I don't feel like writing them all down, so I'll just ask a question that's been bugging me for years: if Liquid got the recessive genes and Solid got the dominant ones, shouldn't his eyes be brown, as his hair, whereas Liquid's would be blue with blonde hair? But if I'm remembering correctly, Solid Snake had blue eyes as well (at least in mgs2). Or were they green (which is a mutation)? Btw, mgs2 is my favourite, so I can't wait for the next video. Keep it up, man!

Liquid was always the dominant one. He was incorrect in thinking that he got the recessive dreams. Thanks for watching, mate!
@makefoxhoundgreatagain8423 жыл бұрын
Liquid had the superior genes, but they were recessive (blonde hair etc) Snake had inferior genes but they were dominant (brown hair etc) Recessive / dominant genes doesn't imply inferior or superior its more how likely they are to be expressed (e.g blonde hair is less common than brown hair as brown hair is dominant but that alone doesn't make brown hair inferior or superior)
