I tend to think of Martok as peak Klingon, especially after he was made Chancellor. He understood Worf, and respected him as probably the finest Klingon warrior. He also understood that his Federation allies were different, but no less warriors. Martok was the kind of Chancellor that the Federation could move forward with. He saw the bloodshed, sacrifice, and courage.

The episodes where he had to reconcile his Klingon heritage with his starfleet duty are some of the best.

Barclay. A show about an aging Reginald Barclay where he works on unraveling the mysterious anomalies starship crews come upon with his mixture of intiution, experience and extreme intelligence. With a focus on being the show that established and filled out various controversial canon wars and provided definitive answers to questions the fans have had for decades, beginning with "why does the federation never use this stuff themselves?" Barclay's technical intuition has always been just this side of ESP so that might be fun to explore as well.

These two and their interactions highlight the ideal of Klingon honor. Compared against the machinations of the Duras family, or indeed Gowron, they show they believe in a far different sort of honor- a selfless one, rather than a badge pinned to someone's chest because they did their job via lies and manipulation. Willing to fight and die. But also willing to look at the big picture, die for victory, but without personal gain being the goal. It is imo a testament to a Klingon culture that has, pragmatically speaking, died a century ago. These are real warriors; whereas as everyone on the their counsel will lie, cheat, steal, and assassinate to rise up, these men hold to their ideals even when it might lost them everything. These are real warriors.

There were some Klingons who did respect Worf Son of Mogh for being different such as K'Nera, Kurn [Worf's younger brother], Chancellor K'mpec, Gowron [formally friend eventually killed by Worf for becoming mad and hungry for power and control. Martok is then named High Chancellor.], Kor, the Dahar Master, and General/Chancellor Martok.

Kurn? I was under the strong impression he did _not_ respect Worf for being different. His character Arc is just depressing, but was a Klingon suffering from depression due to the loss of the family name, I suppose it was an interesting plot idea. Just wish it was resolved better because the character is simply dead now in spirit. Yet it had a pivitol moment. Kurn still showed his soft loving side when he told Worf that while his own honor is gone, Worf still had his own honor in his own way. He admitted that he doesn't hate Worf and still respects him despite the pain he caused him because Kurn understood Worf had good reasons.

Deep space nine is my favorite Trek out of the new ones that was made in the 90s ! The Klingon stories were just amazing and basically from like the second season on the character development really took off more than I think in any other of the series ! I know that wolf and the real Klingon stories didn't take off till the 4th season but as a whole deep space nine in my opinion had more character and plot development than all the other series from the 90s

Why Discovery didn't take notes, I've no idea. A Klingon Empire with DS9 characterizations in TOS antagonism would have been phenomenal.

a most honoured man...Martok!

I just love the clear difference in character between the real Martok and the Changeling Martok. The Changeling Martok was obnoxious, eager for war, and overall an evil person. I expected the same from the real Martok, but no. He’s honourable, knows when he’s defeated, owns up to his mistakes, and overall friendly.

Moments like this are why Martok went from being a one-off character to a recurring one. So glad that they did that.
