One thing I find really fun about Starwars ship is just how not fragile they are. I mean these things are a masterpiece of engineering if they can fly across the stars with half their systems missing and a few weld seams holding the frame intact. only be repaired with parts that have been out of use for decades that some one dug out of the mud. Forget real world rockets, you mistaking you engine and the bolts are to weak and every time you use the gear shift it feels like the engine is about to rip its self out.

This is what I love and admire as well. Of course, even without plot armor, the millenium falcon despite being a literal hunk of junk at this point still kicking is a testament to this fact (especially how damn good corellian engineering is ofc). Not to mention the insane deals too!!! Just getting any ship used can save you a lot of credits as well. And of course, the modularity that a decent number of ships have, and should, which is the important component for making any ship great. It goes to speak for itself at length how amazingly engineered these beautiful ships are, and how creative and robust and fascinating they can be.

considering a tiny little battery the size of a 9v can power a lightsaber for what seems like months, it's expected that the SW universe has rugged equipment. plus the IP was created before the invent of 'planned obsolescence', back when cars and appliances should last long enough to be inherited.

@@greninjaguy5264 I used the falcon as an example like that before lol. I was saying that everything being all dirty, grimy, and old looking makes it more realistic. I love that Starship in Star Wars refers to almost every mean of transport. In our world, they would be cars, trucks, jet fighters, cruise/leisure/cargo/Ferry/liner ships, gunships. Pretty much everything else than small means of transport (speeders, bikes) and land armor. It's a bit like in the age of sail where a ship was everything you needed to travel that didn't involve a horse (except when it did for some river ships).

a starship refers to any spacefaring vessel that has a hyperdrive... an x-wing would be a starship, a tie fighter would not be. also, ships and boats in the age of sail were not the same thing.

@@this.is.a.username Still aren't. The way I had it explained, the easiest way to envision it is when the craft turns - a boat will lean into the turn, like a biker; a ship leans out of the turn, like a long-haul truck. Something something point of balance visavi displacement, but the quick and dirty of it is "boat small; ship big."

@almitrahopkins1873 25 күн бұрын
@@sebastianrubin7476It’s a point of propulsion. Ships can’t be rowed. A trireme is a boat. A caravel is a ship. In space vessels, the cut-off is its faster than light drives. A system defense boat may be heavier than another vessel, but its lack of a faster than light drive makes it a boat. A TIE fighter is a boat. An X-wing is a ship.

I for one love that the Star ship market is basically the same as the car market in real life. Instead of ships costing trillions of dollars like they would in real life, they actually just cost what everyday over priced new cars cost, and the used prices are around there too. However used prices in the Star Wars galaxy seem to be lower.
@celebrim1
@celebrim1 3 ай бұрын
I'm a long time Star Wars RPG game master, and in my universe the explanation for used starships having such low prices is that if you buy a used ship you are typically buying a number of serious problems: a) The ship has an empty fuel tank and almost no life support consumables, and the price of fueling a ship fully is a large fraction of the cost of the ship (as many can fly for months back and forth across the whole galaxy on a single tank). b) The ship is probably overdue for an overhaul and has developed a number of quirks in its performance that will cause it to perform badly if you push it beyond the routine. c) The ship is likely over 30 years old and while it can keep flying it is a maintenance nightmare. In short, most used star ships are lemons.

@@celebrim1 I imagine the regions of the galaxy are much like first-second-and third world countries in the real world in regards to cars. The Outer-rim is a developing third world country where even a lemon is a prized possession. With the exception of more resource rich planets (like cities irl) with nicer starships that may even be new. The Mid-rim is a mix of second and third world. etc... etc... leading up to coruscant being like any other major city with a mix of really new, fairly new, used, and a sprinkle of lemons. Y places like Naboo have local manufacturers and most other places rely on distant manufacturers and common parts between ships.

I would love it too if the cars/speeders cost were significantly lower than ship prices. But they are really similar, as if space travel added no technical constraint and the second engine for FTL was free.

Considering the galactic economy is literally tens if not hundreds of thousands of planets big it makes sense. Remember economies of scale make things cheaper as each part get's a specialized maker who's entire reason for existence is to make part A as cheaply as possible. Considering that literally every backwater world depends on trade for something and is at risk of being raided by hyper militarized space pirates the demand for spacecraft of both civilian and military grade is incomprehensible and the potential suppliers are literally any developed system that can support some kind of domestic craft.

It would be, though I prefer the Avenger myself. So much of the Defender is near custom that replacement parts (when you need them, TIEs are nice like that) can cost almost as much as a used Defender in the first place. Avengers few enough parts commonality with the interceptors that they're easier to keep maintained, while still not skipping out on shields and hyperdrive. And honestly they're just beautiful.

@firstname8637

Yeah, I agree. Though I think the argument for why they're so cheap is that pretty much everyone in the galaxy owns a starship and the manufacturing plants are thus very large and the processes highly automated. Still seems a bit too cheap though.
@imperialguardsman135
@imperialguardsman135 2 ай бұрын
Think about it this way: How much would an F-35 cost to manufacture during WW2? How about in ancient egypt? Even if they had the technology necessary for it, the jet would be priceless. The star wars galaxy has been making roughly the same tech level ships for 1000+ years, with economies of scale unparalleled by anything we've ever made on earth. It's not inconceivable that those ships would be ridiculously cheap

So, let's think about this the Venator cost 49 million, plus an extra 60 million for full complement of aircraft of 400. For a total of 109 million Credits. Or Dollars sense you say it's a 1/1 ratio. For comparison the Gerald R. Ford Class Aircraft Carrier cost about 13 billion Dolars. Plus, an extra 3 billion a full complement of aircraft of 90. For a total of 16 billion Dollars. So, what I am hearing is the U.S. could build 130 Venator ships with full compliments for the cost of what we are paying for 1 Aircraft Carrier.

Given how important Kuat was to the Empire, why didn't the New Republic take it over, nationalize it and overthrow and imprison the previous leaders of the system and the KDY company?
@GenerationTech

I think you risk destroying the ring shipyard, also we have to remember the kuat system defense force was no joke. We did a video a while back about how they were basically too big to fail… so most governments tried to work with them.

@@GenerationTech Right now Kuat is a net loss to the Republic. If they can't take it over, at least if they take it out they remove one of the pillars supporting the Empire and the First Order, though I still have to do math on the actual cost of doing this in lost ships and men if those defenses really are so strong.

I just want the Ebon Hawk. Though, I will say I do really like the affordable Y-Wing bombers. The darn things were almost indestructible in Battlefield 2 (PS2) and dominated space battles, able to engage everything from interceptors to capital ships. It's just a shame it couldn't double as a mobile home. The YT-1300 really is the best all-rounder at an affordable price, plus you can live in it.

I'm curious but was it ever discussed in this channel how the Empire treated Incom Corp? Considering they manufactured most of the Rebel Alliance's Fleet, did they stow away their production facilities elsewhere? Did the Empire ruined the reputation of Incom's board of directors and shareholders?

Blaster Producers: *whistling uncomfortably on a pile of credits* That's a fascinating thing ive realized watching the whole "whatever" Built America shows on History was how many food companies survived and became titans by making food for the military. I can only imagine the ration barons that were made by the Clone Wars, only to get nationalized and made into pseudo nobility by the Empire. I also wonder exactly how the interwar pipeline for ships worked with the First Order, did they build secret branches and production facilities in the Unknown Regions and just smuggle components, materials and parts or were they building them in the Republic then shipping them out. Either way that must have been a massive illicit operation, even as incompetent as the Republic was a blind deaf comatose lobotomy patient would have noticed Star Destroyer's worth of stuff disappearing.
