Allan, with all due respect to you, what do you say about those who complain about what they see as false equivalence between two factions in politics? Take leftists for instance. They constantly keep saying that stuff like fake news is mostly the fault of conservatives, that they’re doing most of the lying. I mean, leftists like socialists paint conservatism and capitalism as just being outright horrible with no redeeming qualities. They seem to make plenty of good points and few bad ones. I mean, plenty of conflicts nowadays are black and white with usually the leftists being the good guys and the conservatives being the bad guys. Sure, it does sound hypocritical how leftists point out the extremities of the conservatives while it looks like they’ve given up on half of the country, but then it feels like the Galactic Civil War between the Rebel Alliance and the Galactic Empire. Whatever complexities and gray zones there are in that war, it still comes down to the Rebels fighting for freedom and a better future while the Empire fights for a totalitarian order. I guess what I’m asking is, what complexities or gray zones are there between the left-wing politicians/activists and their right-wing counterparts in your opinion?

I mean, I don’t know if during the Republic Era whether or not the Jedi made it illegal for anyone to have Kyber Crystals outside of them. If it was the Imperial Era, no doubt Allan would get arrested since that’s relics of the Jedi Order he’s advertising. What about in the New Republic though? It’ll probably be bad taste given the purge of the Jedi being one of the Empire’s worst crimes, but actually illegal? And on a fun note, would you buy a lightsaber? I mean, it’s bound to be expensive given the Kyber Crystal, but it would be a boost to your reputation. Though, enemies of the Jedi might mistake you for one. As a 'scumbag' arms dealer, allow me to offer my perspective, not one of greed but of principle. A weapon is a tool. One built for the purpose of violence but still a mere tool. Tools can allow one to do what is simply impossible for them to do otherwise, for better or for worse. The slicer spoke of the unknown dealer selling to "the bad guys, and the good" but that is a matter of perspective in many cases. It is also largely impossible to be certain who will be the good guy and who will be the bad guy. We can use statistics and stereotypes and personal biases to make a judgement call, and over a long enough time scale there might even be a clear outcome that is statistically greater than chance that the 'right' choice was made, but there is always a price. Deal indiscriminately and more bad people are likely to become armed, since they are striving to do so to have better tools to use against their intended victims. Deal carefully (or not at all) and more good folk that only wanted the tools to protect themselves will be left at the mercy of those that would do them harm, who being most inclined either arm themselves in other ways or make do without, targeting those least able to defend themselves. In both cases innocent people(s) suffer. Do we pick a point between the two? How does one begin to decide what amount of potential anguish is a reasonable cost for peace of mind? And how do we decide which of the yearning masses begging for our help we should empower, and which do we send helplessly into the endless night? It is an impossible question. But, when in doubt, I tend to think more freedom is better. Most people are not bad. I would not go so far as to say most people are good but there is a range of negative behavior that people are comfortable with and most are not in the super bad range for most of their lives. If as many people, factions, nations, worlds, are as armed as possible then everyone worthy of the means to defend themselves will have as much of a chance as possible, and the likelihood of armed resistance grows exponentially. As the ratio between deterrence and incentive shifts the pool of those that would still aim to do harm shrinks. As armed conflict results in the elimination of an increasing portion of those that would prey on the well defended, the amount of wronged in the universe decreases. This solution scales. As bad governments tighten their grip the more painful even a small blade of resistance can be... and there are more of us.

You have a remarkable ability to draw parallels between the intricate governmental structures depicted in Star Wars and their relevance to our own world. Your content explores lesser-known details of governmental operations, which often escape the awareness of the average citizen, adding a distinct sense of intellectual curiosity to your work. Great appreciation for your incorporation of canonical content, which brings an element of enjoyment and authenticity to your discussions. By including established and validated information, you elevate the credibility of your analyses, further enhancing the overall merit of your content. Your content's unique ability to intertwine fictional portrayals of government in Star Wars with the realities of our own sociopolitical landscape is truly commendable. This approach not only fosters a deeper understanding of both fictional narratives and their reflections in contemporary governance but also captivates audiences with a fluid and engaging presentation. Your appreciation for canonical material further adds to the fluidity and coherence of your work, making it a pleasure to explore. In other words- great content!

The only way to keep the greedy in balance is to make *them* work very very hard at doing something productive for society, say, by implementing pre-Reagan top marginal tax rates instead of shovelling more money to the already rich and expecting them to somehow get better or fix anything. They blame 'regulation' for their antisocial behavior and grift but when those regulations are in face taken away or they get what they want, no, nothing gets better, no promises are kept..... They just take more cause they have the power to do that instead of building anything.

The more you know 🌠 But, of course, Lovecraft nailed it with: “The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents. We live on a placid island of ignorance in the midst of black seas of infinity, and it was not meant that we should voyage far. The sciences, each straining in its own direction, have hitherto harmed us little; but some day the piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the light into the peace and safety of a new dark age.” We waste so much time and resources in the struggle, when we already know the basics of what we all need to survive and thrive as a civilization. There's the starting point of that common ground. The next great mind could be some child dying in a 3rd world country from famine, disease, or war. Imagine the "second coming" failing because of such tragedy. The message from Bill and Ted "be excellent to each other", leading to a utopian future is impractical when there's always someone who wants to be in control of the resources (energy, materials, people, etc.).
@datastorm75 Жыл бұрын
It is the best interests of true capitalists to work to lift up others. Those who are lifted up, have the resources to participate in the economy, thusly providing for more economic activity and potential wealth for all, including the true capitalists. I absolutely believe that a large majority of wealthy businesspeople want to give back to society. Unfortunately the ways they're predisposed to thinking of doing so at best don't really accomplish anything and at worst actively do the opposite, unbeknownst to them. I choose to believe you knew what it sounded like when you chose to say the equivalent of "be thankful to your colonizers" and did it anyway because you thought it was worth considering. For the record I think you're not _entirely_ wrong but the thought desperately needs further development. I hope it's true that dislikes count as engagement for the algorithm because that was my intent in leaving one. P.S. I'd say if the Galaxy were to be united, it would be closer to the European Union. Putting issues aside, the way the European Union is meant to work on paper is that laws generally require unanimity. Power flows from the member-states rather than the European government and members are free to join and leave by referendum. There are certain criteria for members to join (at a certain economic development and have a functional democracy). The European Common Security and Defence Policy allows members to maintain their own militaries and are free to conduct their own foreign policies (within reason), but should the need arise, the EU can call upon the militaries of the member-states for collective action. Honestly, given how it went from a republic which may not have had an emperor but definitely had an empire, to an official autocratic empire, to a provisional republic that was trying to grow an ideal state in chaotic times, to another even more autocratic empire, to a collection of ruined worlds trying to rebuild from the ashes from half a century of almost constant war, it's not hard to imagine looking at it as German states> German Empire> Weimar Republic> Nazi Germany> post-WW2 Europe. So an EU-like future of a reunited galaxy might not be unrealistic

Life is a constant balancing act, there is no "pick one side and hold you position against a tide of opposition." It's an ever moving target of stepping over the dividing line, back and forth, forever to keep things from tipping. Light and dark in constant opposition if one "wins" we all eventually lose, which seems depressing, I prefer the "We all do better when we all do better." mentality but even that seems a little one sided sometimes.

It's all balance and tradeoffs, never a "right answer" when it comes to politics. 1. Don't want a government so relaxed corporations gain enough power to act as "tyrannical governments" (galactic republic-trade federation) or you get invaded by another government (new-republic and first order), or the corporations buy out the government (banking clan owned worlds). Or you just have anarchy and you have millions of gangs and individuals resulting in tyranny (hutts and lawless worlds). 2. Don't want a majoritarian direct democracy where minorities are subject to the whims of the majority which may be misguided resulting in rapid changes in government without thinking (Hitler was popular, Plazir 15 voted to keep the malfunctioning droids because they became lazy but the smart leaders could not do anything) 3. Don't want a government so strong it nationalizes all corporations and you end up with a tyrannical government and tyrannical corporations owned by the government (The Empire) *Some things require strong government, other things should be up to the individual. For instance a strong enough government to keep corporations from becoming tyrannical, but enough freedom for corporations so the government has competition for providing the best services. And enough freedom for citizens they can fight off tyranny, but not so much freedom they can murder others. The perfect balance is up for interpretation and should be on an issue-by-issue basis rather than top-down. Point is too strong or too weak of a government you end up with tyranny. There are people who care about the galaxy and those who will use any faction or belief to their own benefit. As Allen said don't blame liberals or conservatives and be subject to group-think, take the time to learn the motivations of each individual. And take the time to research the best solution to every cultural and political issue rather than picking a side and believing whatever they say for every issue. Extremists unwilling to learn are the problem, no matter what side. Focus on loving others, and trusting the force.

So yes while Amazon is big they are far from an monopoly even in the online retail space where you have everyone and anyone competing much like video games where Fortnight is not a monopoly. Which that whole industry was crushed by all of Online retail not Amazon by it's self.

"we're disarming to further our stance on peace" where have i heard THAT before? Hmmm. *rainbow hammer and sickle intensifies* EDIT: pie, sorry, pi, is the meaning of life. Also politics is the problem. ALL politics furthers the elite few. At this point am an idealist not political, and all fir true monarchies. After all a king not appointed by the lord on high is a tyrant.

Whether people like it or not, capitalism will always be around in some form or another. Other attempts at a viable system like communism have been a massive failure time and time again. Refining the system to address inequality, limiting corruption, etc... will always be things society can look to as a means of bettering itself.
