The Chrom counterpick by Leon was super interesting. The way I see it, Chrom actually finds closer to even footing with the rest of the cast in the Kazuya matchup, because while chrom can randomly die in almost every matchup, everyone can randomly die in the Kazuya matchup, so at that point, why not trade Lucina for Chrom who also has much more extreme strengths such as a really insane combo game of his own and even more insane frame date than Lucina? It seems like a really good pick when you think about it that way.

Genesis9 was full of so many great sets, stories and moments. - Leo back on the Joker and Winning as expected from Mr.Genesis. Even pulled out the secret ROB! - MuteAce carrying over what Samsora left with through a Top Tier Peach, beating EVERYONE and ending on a Top 2 Finish - Tweek breaking his Genesis Top 8 and AT LEAST making it through - Marss nearly making it through but unfor Lylat was NOT the pick (why was Lylat even allowed?!) - Gluto surmounting expectations. Beating Tweek and ALMOST beating Sonix too - Kurama joined KCorp. Which is unexpected but great to see them involved in Smash - Sonix getting a taste of his own medicine by getting timed out by the GOAT - But Sonix at least got to beat Sparg0's Aegiss which was a huge wall for him for so long - Sparg0 dissmantled Acola and might lead to Acola either hard adapting or taking a secondary - And most importantly....ESAM IS BALD!!!

After facing a lot of Kazuya mains, I realized that he is very predictable if you are at a high percent. Out of all characters, making a comeback against Kazuya is kind of easy. You know he's gonna try to grab or stun you at high percents, so going bait and punish mode helps a lot. Took down many Kazuyas at a deficit because of this. @soggyramen6031 Жыл бұрын
His byleth’s movement just seemed slow compared to his other characters (playing byleth fast is actually really hard because of their movement speed and positioning focus)
@fupalover Жыл бұрын
@Soggy Ramen It's more than that. The main reason his Byleth was Godlike is that Leo took their main weakness (their movement) and turned it into the strongest element of his Byleth. Leos Byleth was so methodical. They way he conditioned his opponents. He has always used alot of Nair but its how you use it that matters most. Before he found ways to incorporate Byleths nair and create opportunities from his movement. Now he is relying on Byleths nair and fair to do that without the methodical playstyle he had. Which is why he's using it 3-4 times on his opponent even when they shield. He's going for less grabs. Using fair and nair to control and create his opportunities is what is leading to him getting punished. He doesn't even get up b connections anymore. He doesn't break shields anymore. Hasnt gotten any hard reads he used to get from how he conditioned his opponent. He's starting not to get the mk layup anymore. Because he's changed the way he plays Byleth. Look at how he played at G8 or even Luds. Compare it to how he played Byleth at SWT and G9. 2 very different Byleths. At first i thought his Byleth was off at SWT cause he was high now it's clear he just plays them differently. I guess cause he's putting alot more time into Joker.

I have to rewatch the sets, I mostly spectate the game and have never been to a tournament so you guys gotta spoonfeed me here; what's the beef and animosity against the Lylat stage? I remember someone commenting Lylat was a galaxy brain pick by Light to get the win on Spargo since it messed up Cloud's Bairs with the slanted ledges. How big of a problem is this in choosing stages? Is this why we don't see stages like Yoshi's Island? And I see Charles makes a great point about redundancy; if you have multiple battlefield like setups, you weaken the effectiveness of your stage ban options if you play a matchup where the triple platforms are not going to be in your favor. I'd be curious if anyone could direct me to the discussions on how tournies compose their stage list so I can understand why I, a spectator with zero stake in the competition, have to put up with the hit or miss music choices of Pokemon Stadium or Animal Crossing's borefest of an OST (though KK Bubblegum is fine).

The interesting thing I found about watching Leo is that he really doesn't seem to prepare for particular match ups in advance, he starts of unsure and learns in real time. For instance he just wasn't able to combo Peach with Byleth or Joker in his first Mute games because he wasn't used to the floatiness, or how he said he didn't practice the Steve matchup besides fighting Maister in between his Onin loss and Acola victories, or how MinMin gives him trouble but he doesn't seem to be focused on training the matchup, more on playing a character that can do its thing freely against MinMin. This tournament made me believe that a character like Peach can rise from the ashes, because Peach was struggling to get back to where she was before the pandemic hit. Putting in the time to practice and work on as many matchups as possible, MuteAce showed that you can overcome even the worst matchups and the hardest brackets: 1. He beat Maister 3-1, who plays G&W, often considered Peach's worst matchup. 2. He beat Acola 3-1, who plays Steve, a character that became despised for a while for how he plays the game. 3. He beat Glutonny 3-0, who has done against MuteAce in the past. 4. He beat Light 3-2, who has a near perfect record against Ling, another strong Peach player. 5. He initially beat MKLeo 3-1, who many still consider the best Ultimate player in the world. I think that MuteAce will continue shining in tournaments and will show that Peach may still be one of the best characters in the game.

I think 2022 was really the year of the punish game. If we look at some of the most successful characters in 2022: Steve, Kazuya, gnw, wario, ROB, among others, a lot of them had suspect/average neutral games, but their advantage states were absurd. Hell, bowser, DK, and Incineroar had a great 2022 as well. Even Luigi, the OG kazuya, won its first major. I’m the side, characters like ZSS, sheik, Palu, pikachu, and joker, who while some have amazing advantage states, are more well known for their phenomenal neutrals, had seen a down year. I find it very possible that the balance of power may swing back in favor of those characters as neutral becomes more important

As a die hard Sephiroth main, I think Tweek should just drop him and use Roy or something. He's torturing himself by playing a character that he doesn't believe in.

Seph has a lot of problems. You need to play out of your mind to do some crazy shit. It's possible but why picking Seph if there is Kazuya or Steve

The truth is, you can’t expect people NOT to roast riddles after that controller spike. We laugh at compilations of bad smash moments all the time, riddles doesn’t get a pass from me even as a fan of his. It is understandable to get upset competing at that level. He did nothing wrong, no one was hurt but def roast worthy. Especially as kazuya to lose to fundies characters like palu and chrom. Kinda like pulling up w the “what are those” to school back in the day, expect it. Move on.

@KingKade Know riddles isn't like that?!?! Then like did he get possessed to throw his controller or something? Nah he baby raged because he IS like that LOL. Also let's not get into the weirdness of you assigning good personality traits to a smash player you don't even actually know. It gets into that parasocial relationship territory that is really unhealthy and even dangerous
@kingkadegames Жыл бұрын
@@thesaxiest4480 or the idea of him going through something that isn’t great. He doesn’t act like this normally. So spiking his controller is and oddity for how he normally acts in tournaments. His job is image based, why would he risk his image like this to just do it? Open up your mind and heart to consider if he is going through something that is making him upset.
@thesaxiest4480 Жыл бұрын
@KingKade You're still trying to paint this picture of a content creator/ player that you don't even know... The most simple explanation for a controller spike is that Riddles hasn't placed as poorly as he did in a long time and so he raged a bit. At the end of the day yeah he's gonna get flamed for it and in general it's not a good look but at the same time, nobody is saying it's absolutely unacceptable and that he should see repercussions or something. But you are being hella weird to relentlessly defend someone who probably doesn't even know who you are over such a little thing.

@Yokai_Yuri Жыл бұрын
He is not that good. he is like Riddles. Abusing a character that is poorly developed so they could win. Sonic's design is just to hit and run and on top of that have super safe moves so he could keep doing his shit. Kazuya is a character that gets rewarded even if he makes mistakes and this is thanks to all his positives like super amor, invencibility etc... If smash ultimate would kept the patches coming in, Kazuya and Sonic would be heavily nerfed by now. Possibly the pichu treatment.
