Saw them in Boston 12/16/2021 with my brother, who loves Genesis and Phil Collins. My brother is also mentally handicapped and has become withdrawn as he got older. But when Genesis started playing, his eyes lit up and 30 years were lifted. You old man, you can barely stand up. But you gave me my brother back last night.

I saw them in Philly on 12/2. God, I was crushed when I saw Phil struggling just to get on the stage. It was a stark contrast to their Turn It On Again tour in 2007. I have been to MANY concerts in my day (I’m 57) and that was one of the best concerts I have ever seen. I agree that Phil struggled many times but all of us Old Heads just had to see them live this one last time. They were and are the soundtrack of my youth. Sitting in a candle lit room, my audio setup cranking, smoking some stuff, and listening to Duke on vinyl. That was just heaven. Genesis - we love you and I hope Phil finds the peace he has always been searching for.
@mikearchibald74411 ай бұрын
I get the feeling that this was a concert that they really needed to get Phil on the road just to be 'un retired', and good for them for doing that. And good for them for not going with autotune or piped in audio.

You see, perfection is not the most important thing in life. And it is not the most important thing during this tour. Time flies; we get ill, we get old. We are all human and we are obviously imperfect. Soon we will all be gone anyway. But the power of this music is still here. And that is what is timeless.

You are so right , I came to this realisation almost a decade ago when I lost both my parents due to old age . The strive for perfection is completely unrealistic and ultimately unattainable . We all have to do the best we can and live our best lives. Genesis and Phil in particular have nothing to prove , they are perfect to me anyway . I was worried and saddened when I saw that rehearsal documentary the other week but seeing these video uploads now that feeling has gone . Not perfect but who is ? and why should we worry about perfection anyway .
@TheOpus553 жыл бұрын
Agreed. If you stick to perfection, listen to CDs only and stay away live performances. Phil's condition makes me sad but gives us strength at the same time. He has recovered well enough to do these shows. And what a talent his son Nick is! He has learned all the notes and grooves his father played and provides energy to this legendary band.

Saw this as a 17 yr old at Birmingham Odean in 1980 and saw it again 41 yrs later in Birmingham as a 58 yr old. A wonderful concert that was full of joy and happiness but also sadness and pathos, mostly for Phil but also for that youthful exuberance we all had those many years ago. Could have shed a tear at the end with carpet crawlers and then three strangers who have been like friends for four decades stood there taking a bow for the last time in Birmingham

La musica non ha tempi.. Ho 61 anni e mi reputavo finito. Componevo musica prograssive da quando avevo 20 anni(i Genesis sui 30) ma io no li conoscevo.. Il prograssive lo avevo nel sangue.. Poi.. Tutta una vita scandita dalle loro canzoni.. Con "Many to many"..

Definitely a Banks championed selection. Known to be his favourite piece of theirs. And as time wore on, it turned out Duchess was Genesis. Banks always said this was the closest they came to an autobiographical piece but seeing it acknowledged on the finale was brilliant. A fitting farewell song and the best version of it for me. Darker. Harder. Grittier. Poignant. Never mind the tour title, Fading Lights, the encore. This is their sign off.

Mixed emotions seeing this. Duchess is one of my favorite Genesis songs. I listen to it daily and have all the Genesis tour DVDs so I know the power and emotions Phil gave to the songs. I love the opening here with the lights. Very mesmerizing. However, I hate seeing Phil in such awful shape I hate more hearing his voice and him forgetting the words. I realize we all get old. I am aging too. However, I realize there are things I can’t do anymore and don’t. The words of this song are painfully ironic and I wish Genesis had known when to step out of the light. I think they should have hung up the shoes after 2007 tour. I prefer to remember Phil as he was. He said many times that he never practiced vocally to keep his voice up, that Genesis rehearsals were his practice. Perhaps if he’d kept his voice in shape, he could still sing. Sting, Gino Vannelli, even Peter Gabriel are all the same age and they can still sing beautifully. I wonder how different these concerts would have been if Phil’s voice was better. We’ll never know.
