I feel a mixture of sadness and joy watching these clips. It’s so sad to see Phil in such a frail shape. However, he’s giving it his all and the crowd is giving it back in love. When they are interacting and singing along it brings on the allergies. To top it off when Phil turns around and looks up at his son killing it on drums I almost can’t hold back the waterworks. Gold.

I'm sure they will. I won't be buying it because I have no interest at all in Genesis's music after 'Wind and Wuthering': I'm not saying it's bad, it's just not my cup of tea. I expect that Phil will sound better on the DVD than he does here, because the sound will be tidied up/enhanced - that's not cheating, everybody does it. As for the people here criticising his singing, they are not being fair. Age inevitably takes its toll on the voice. I actually think Phil's singing here is passable; I've heard a lot worse from some of my ageing heroes (I'm a big Jethro Tull fan, but I've had to live with Ian Anderson's voice being shot for the last thirty years). I would have thought that the fans who grew to love Genesis in the 80s (not the grumpy old 70s prog-rockers like me) would be pleased just to see the band there doing it one more time - maybe the last time, who knows?

There is a great documentary produced by PBS chronicling the development of this tour, including full dress rehearsals with excellent sound and close-up video. I've seen that video - is it just me or is Phil lip-synching in most of it? I couldn't make up my mind. More likely that the sound was recorded live then tidied up/enhanced afterwards. That's normal.

@@adolforodolfo6929 I doubt it. If we’re talking about the same documentary, they actually talk about how bad Phil’s vocals were initially
@Arlo360-Official3 жыл бұрын
@@adolforodolfo6929 There are two versions of the video; one is completely out of synch with the audio which could lead someone to believe he's lip synching. The other video is the "fixed" version where they went back and corrected the problem. Not sure if that is what you saw. Either way, he's live and I think he still sounds better than a lot of other guys his age who need to stop.
@adolforodolfo69293 жыл бұрын
@@Arlo360-Official That might be the answer, because it was definitely a little bit out of synch. I agree with what you say - Phil sounded OK, better than I expected given his age and, yes, better than some of his "contemporaries" who probably do need to stop - or to stop singing at least. I do have to say though that he sounds better on that documentary than he sounds in the videos I have seen on here from the actual tour, so I suspect that the sound on the documentary has been enhanced - but, like I say, that's completely normal.

It’s not just a matter of age but also practice. The human voice is like a musical instrument. You have to practice regularly, even it’s just in the shower or in the car, or you’ll lose your chops. Also like an instrument it has to be maintained and cared for. Phil admittedly doesn’t sing anymore unless he’s in rehearsals or on stage. He’s allowed his voice to deteriorate by not practicing regularly. Maybe if he were to practice singing at home instead of whiling away the hours drinking and popping pain pills he could get his voice back.
