He didn't close any door. The only way to catch up to an opening was to dive to the dirt knowing you are shortcutting the turn and will assuredly slide into whoever is in your way. Not a sportsman-like move.

Man, it's so cool to see a international driver get so much success early on in his NASCAR career. Sure it's only road course wins so far but that comes with the territory from the type of racing he did all of his life! I am not from NZ or AU (Canada) but it's awesome to see so many fans from those countries dipping their toes into our sport here in North America! From what I have heard just based on some of his vague answers regarding "Supercars changing" and some of the comments I read here, it doesn't look like V8 Supercars ain't doing so well right now. It must be a shame to fans from AU and NZ of that series to see it's downfall if true. SVG (or as I learned from a race I watched with Supercars, Gizzy) also mentioned he thinks that Cam and Will should come do NASCAR fulltime sounds pretty telling about Supercars.

Kiwi here, we are loving this nascar racing , even if s v g doesn’t win ,a lot of kiwis and aussies will start to follow the sport more , it doesn’t get a lot of coverage here , but with his success over there it will hopefully bring more coverage here, all the racing from the states like the indie cars is great watching , we have a couple of kiwis doing well in there too, would love to watch a race live one day , here’s hoping

@@user-yw8rb4jz5q It must be difficult for you to watch a race live based on your timezone. Yesterday's (Today's race for you) would have been your best chance because it was early morning for you. But, yes majority of the races are going to be difficult as it happens VERY early in the morning for you. I would suggest recording them as long as you guys have a TV station in New Zealand that covers it often. If not, I hope you guys get a TV deal that covers all of the Cup and Xfinity races. I think it would do very well now thanks to Gizzy, and maybe Cam and Will in the future if they get full time rides!

They have just changed the car in supercars, Shane gave "constructive criticism" to them about the car and they told him to zip it. Then also said drivers are free to speak their minds...🤦‍♂️ the racing is still quality although the top 3 drivers from the last 10 years have left. But now more kiwis watch indycar and nascar.

Its still brilliant mate , but the rules and the gagging of drivers is BS . Up there he can be himself . He was a hell of a sprint car driver , so he will get better at the ovals . He can drive anything , the reason he drifts those cars is because he was NZ drifting champion . Came second in RallyX in cars he had never driven . He is a driver with natural talent .

Basic strategy the teams used for SVG on the streets or road tracks, knowing he could out drive the field back to the podium. He has unbelievable tyre management skills, noting that he backed off for a while to let the tyres cool and scrub the slippery layer off the tyres and get back to the sticky layers. Once there, slowly pick everyone off while they are still on the hot worn slippery layers. Hill was going backwards, it was only a matter of time before SVG went past, which had nearly happed a few times in the last few laps. Hill should have known they both would be going for the same piece of track, and should have left a bit of racing room, but because he knew his car wouldn't have come out in front, he tried to muscle SVG. When you fight for track position like that, you win some, you lose some, unfortunately for Hill he lost that one. But he would have only lost one spot if he didn't try to win or die on that corner. Austin Hill needs to watch some old SVG footage and learn some different race craft.
