DRT and the other Massey are such great plugins. They seem to not get brought up as often as other newer stuff, but they’re genuinely such a great blend of value and performance. Love the vid dude! This technique has saved my a*s a few times!

When I read the clickbait title, I was hoping for this video to show me a way around all this.

Ha once we’re tabbing through every hit we’re no longer cheating

When checking accuracy can tab to transient on the midi track rather than the audio track, and DRT’s detections will follow along. then it won’t tab to mistriggers or things you don’t want. Once it’s lined up, you can drag the aligned midi from DRT and it’s perfect. This is how I’ve done it for years and it’s 100% the best way.

Check out the 5 min mark.. Is that what you are talking about? - Also thank you for doing the lords work with all of your amp sim gain staging information. It is much appreciated.

Yeah! Exactly as you are tabbing there around 5 mins, but if you keep the DRT window open, you can tab on the MIDI track and correct the alignment within DRT like what you are talking about around 6:45. Correcting on the midi track works fine, but I’m more prone to making mistakes on there, and there’s more zooming in and out and work to align vs doing it in DRT. Hope that makes sense, it’s kind of hard to word! Your method is basically dead on to how I do it aside from this, this video is the best i’ve seen on it. And that’s rad you’ve seen the input level stuff, it’s so good the conversation is going on because it’ll lead to better results for everyone (both better plugins, and more accurate+consistent results when using them). All the best!

@@eds4754 I think you worded it perfectly! I didn't include it in the video because it requires the extra step of exporting the midi, then using the midi as a guide to tab the trigger points in DRT. I do agree that method works very well. Now if we could just get all these sample manufacturers to actually double check all their sample start time edits. I feel like every so often I come across certain libraries that have different amounts of space between different hits and velocities.. SOOOOO annoying.

@@eds4754Where is this amp sim gain staging information? I am a starving engineer in need!

@@Beau.Burchellha yeah some toontrack libraries don’t lock in (I think the also have a bug where the timing isn’t locked in at some sample rates but is at others). I’d imagine AI/machine learning should be perfect for aligning drums and midi perfectly, hopefully someone’s working on it!

Nice! You could try Auto Align2 after DRT midi conversion to a sample for phase accuracy 🎉. I'm using Cubase, and the hit points works awesome. Cheers!

Do you find this to be a better way to accomplish samples than with Slate’s Trigger 2? Thanks Beau!
@Beau.Burchell
@Beau.Burchell 7 ай бұрын
Yes. With midi, I can adjust velocities based on what samples I have chosen. I can also automate velocities for different sections of songs. Also if the drums were recorded with any preamp or tape distortion or compression, the velocities of the performance will be compressed. Trigger won’t understand that, but with midi I can match the original performance.

most of the time, yes. Its especially helpful when there is bleed from a crowded drum set or other transient sounds.
