I'm left-handed, & every time I picked up the phone, I was launching the camera with my thumb. I set the button to double click to opening the camera, which solved that problem. But using it to control taking photos is so unwieldy, I just use the controls on the screen. The button was a sales gimmick.

i think the “apple intelligence late” thing is just a huge marketing mistake, there is no problem with announcing future technology, thats what wwdc is about, but they could do so much more with the marketing of the new phone which are great even without apple intelligence. all of this just points out that apple is in fear of the stock market and surrendered to the ai craze, and became a trend follower instead of the trend setter it is supposed to be. the apple stock cannot grow forever, the removal of the accessories, the subscription prices, the slight price increases, they keep trying to grow the revenue and shorten the expenses, but what will the breaking point be?

Has anyone noticed that the volume up / down buttons ALSO still work for taking photos? So if you are holding the phone horizontal and rest the bottom of the phone on your thumb (so you other fingers don't block the lenses) its really easy to accidentally take photos with the volume buttons before you are ready. So its triple redundant for no good reason.

Edit: Marques made the wallpaper app he would use and pay 50/yr for, but he didn't make the wallpaper app that normal people would use or pay 50/yr for. Small changes year over year is not only not productive but it’s also kind of wasteful. I agree with you guys when you said that we have hit a peak with what a smart phone can be. So, with that in mind, companies need to just go back to the drawing board and stop pushing more new products out until there is an actual need to do so. It’s not going to hurt companies to just keep selling the same stuff until a new product is released. Maybe that’s not realistic but in my opinion, the current business model isn’t realistic either.

iOS 18 has been a mixed bag. Everyone I know with an iPhone 15 pro has been complaining of battery issues since upgrading to iOS 18. I have a 15 Pro Max and have noticed about a 10-15% drop in my battery life since getting iOS 18. Hopefully they fix this in 18.1

I upgraded to a 16 (from an XR) and like you guys have been saying the hardware is really good. For me it was an insane upgrade (way better screen, camera and battery), but I will say the camera control has been a little disappointing. The overlap in software felt very un-apple and you guys have mentioned this, but it tends to zoom to 1.1/1.2 just randomly. I also noticed that since it’s a real button it does actually move the phone when you click it, cause I was looking at some photos from 2 nights ago and I realized most of the photos I used the camera control button for are blurry. I will say tho, since I have a case with a cutout, the controls aren’t that bad, even one handed (including zoom since it has momentum)

No one talks about the un advetized upgrades (not defending the release) I noticed the speakers sound better, the scrolling refreshing seems smoother, flashlight seems much brighter and I noticed the reverse charging is much much faster. It would take the iPhone 15 pro max all night (8 hours) to charge the battery pack and the 16 pro max now does it in under 3 hours

I think that apple‘s problem is that they spent too much money and consciousness on things that didn’t matter. The $4000 goggles weren’t going to be a success and the car was an extreme longshot, and there went tens of billions of dollars that could have gone into the iPhone primarily.

I generally just use stock wallpapers. Whether for phone or computer. But I actually had to download the Apple wallpaper for iOS 17 as in order to change the clock, you had to redo the wallpaper, and Apple had taken it away! So had to download a factory wallpaper and load it up to my phone. Which I plan to be my forever wallpaper.

The phone market is now similar to the car market. Each year brings minor updates, maybe a new color or two, and that’s all. Honestly, that’s fine. I keep my phones for two years at least. iPads and Mac’s don’t need annual updates anymore IMO. Take a year for hardware focus and then a year for software focus. Doing both in the same year is getting to be too much, and the cracks are showing.

One more thing, lol. Let’s be consumers n not defenders of “our” company. For example, 60hz n fingerprint sensor. All I see from fans is that it doesn’t matter, nobody cares, Face ID is better, etc. However, apple is cutting costs, saving money at our expense. Don’t u think Samsung wants to save money n increase profits? They still give 120hz, fps, Face ID, same chip on each phone, etc. apple is the only one withholding these features n we accept it. I love how they talk about how Apple Intelligence isn’t there Hyundai one well look at Samsung when they said it was supposed to be on the S23 ultra and S22 ultra which Apple never said Apple Intelligence was supposed to be on the iPhone on day one they just said it was gonna be on the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro max and iPhone 16 iPhone 16+ iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max look back at the Samsung event for galaxy AI. It wasn’t available on the S23 ultra or S22 ultra on day one even though they could clearly run it on day one for every phone that was capable of running galaxy AI Unreleased day there was even a bug fixed to fix the galaxy AI on the galaxy S24 ultra cause it wasn’t working perfectly kind of like it wasn’t even there at all, but you do get Apple Intelligence on day one on the iPhone 16 you get all the rewriting tools, the rephrasing tools in iOS 18 on iPhone 16 so don’t tell me Apple Intelligence wasn’t released on day one that’s bull crap because I have it and I don’t even have 18.1 but Samsung has done that with older phones where saying that it will get the software features when the new software comes out but guess what galaxy I didn’t do that on older phones as well so cut Apple some slack because Apple’s not the only one that did it Samsung did it to the S22 ultra S23 ultra didn’t get it until later even though they said it was gonna get it So cut Apple some slack because Samsung did the same shit, but Apple didn’t really do it because I have Apple Intelligence on my phone. Apple said in the announcement that they would release AI features in October. And a company is allowed to promote their new phones with the promise that future updates will makes the experience better. Its what they do anyway for years now, you get a new phone and years later you get a cool new feature. The 16s and 16 pros are great phones period, you buy them, you will be happy. And likely happier when new features are added.

Everyone repeats the mkbhd saying “don’t buy a product for what it may have in the future, buy it for what it has today” (paraphrase). When did we become such weak consumers? Why such an anti-consumer culture? I 100% disagree with this saying. It should be the opposite. Company’s should not be allowed to advertise features n services at keynote, that will not be ready at launch. If we r being honest, these keynotes r absolutely advertisements for these companies n tons of people buy based in these features.

Camera Control takes a learning curve but after that i can definitely see it being useful to a lot of people. it's there so that you don't have to adjust your grip to change settings while recording video. i don't really see anything wrong with the implementation either
