While he certainly has the right and privilege to change trainers, it is clear that he is disingenuous as to the reasons for the split. He is evasive. Never does he offer a direct answer, even when speaking in his native language. Abel Sánchez invested in Golovkin at a time when promoters would not accept Golovkin. With Sánchez Golovkin went from an unknown Central European fighter who was languishing in Germany and beating up inflated welterweights, to the apex of boxing, and more importantly boxing history. The stretch lasted nine years and the entire panoply of belts and records, including tying the Bernard Hopkins seemingly untouchable, number of successful title defenses. Because Golovkin merely mumbles incoherent and non-responsive sentences in English, Sánchez served as his voice and defender.
