I was educated in a parochial school for 12 years. Every day of every year I wore a tie. My brother showed me how to make a Half-Windsor knot when I was 8 or so. In my humble opinion a Full Windsor knot does not look good with the wing collar. I don't think its symmetrical at all. A Windsor knot looks much better with a straight, point collar.

I much prefer an asymmetrical knot, a half Windsor or a four-in- hand, with a cutaway (spread) collar. The Full Windsor always looks a bit naff to me. I liked your shirt though and the cut on the collar; very nice.

In UK schools, we call this the "swat knot". Kids would make fun of you if you wore a big knot. A swat is a nerd/geek/teachers pet or someone who always follows the rules.

Green Piece I hate when people go with a very small knot but do it badly (a well tied small knot looks fine). My brother doesn’t really care about how his ties look so he does the fast way (around his hand, in like 5 seconds) and it always looks like a parallelogram and it drives me nuts. Is this the kind of knot the kids would mostly use? I know there are a few ways to tie a fast, small knot that has the same look

Thats is correct how to tie full windsor / double windsor. Why i say that ? Long a ago, in 1990's, i learn how to tie neck tie. My master teach me same like this. ( before youtube appear ).
@BruceCarbonLakeriver2 жыл бұрын
For special occations I use the merowingian knot from the movie The Matrix. It is basically a Windsor double knot on steroids but looks awesome but you need a VERY LONG tie for it. Otherwise you get either chocked or can't finish the knot. Fun fact: The merowingian know get pulled up by pulling on the broader side of the tie ;D

This is the 3rd different way that I have seen a full Windsor knot done on here. End result is predominately the same but a few differently steps in the process.

The cutaway collar makes it look like you're being strangled.
@BohemianGhost8 жыл бұрын
Great video! ...but the tight collar just does not look good at all ... seems almost to be a way to small shirt.
@gentlemansgazette8 жыл бұрын
+Shawn-Johann Robert I guess you are wearing your collars too big
@BohemianGhost8 жыл бұрын
+Gentleman's Gazette No offence intended. ... the collar button is clearly distressed to keep the collar closed and the shirtmaterial on the front also shows off that it is to tight ... i am a tailor and its just my opinion that a collar can sit tight but it should not look as if one gets strangled by it.
@gentlemansgazette8 жыл бұрын
+Shawn-Johann Robert Once you shoot video, you will see that you see wrinkles that you never see in real life. The collar is definitely not too tight for me. The shirt was ironed before and looked perfectly fine, but in the video it looked bad... it happens.

@ 5:24, he says that a short man is 5'3" or shorter, while an average man is 5'9" - 6'2". What about if you are 5'4" - 5'8"?
@tiborszabo96165 жыл бұрын
It also says 173 cm which is about 5'8", so that's still considered short.

I'm not a fan of this knot. Even when using a thin tie it still rides too high on the collar. It breaks the line by coming over the top of the collar and exposes the wrinkles underneath. Hard pass.

Thick Windsor commends authority in an instant...If I may none of the knots look especially on par because the collar you are using is not made for a windsor, you may need a rather large collar for the symmetry of the winsor
@lemonysnicket31533 жыл бұрын
Larger than the cutaway colar? lol
@bkojic79777 жыл бұрын
This is not the proper way to do Windsor. Tied this way, it is not self-releasing. To make it self-releasing, in the very beginning after going left to right over the thin part, then under and up, instead of bringing it down on the left side, you have to bring it down on the right side, then over the left side, then over the knot left to right. Pretty much mirror image of what is presented here. This will be self-releasing and also more symmetrical.
@ahmedlouws1135 жыл бұрын
I already knew how to do the knot and I knew there was something wrong with how he tied it! The fact that it's self releasing is one of the reasons why I like this knot a lot.
