I’m so sorry for your loss. It’s heartbreaking, I know. She is up there with your grandparents. Animals are the first beings to greet us. She’s waiting for you! I found a story that gave me comfort: “Being a veterinarian, I had been called to examine a ten-year-old Irish Wolfhound named Belker. The dog’s owners, Ron, his wife Lisa, and their little boy Shane, were all very attached to Belker, and they were hoping for a miracle. I examined Belker and found he was dying of cancer. I told the family we couldn’t do anything for Belker and offered to perform the euthanasia procedure for the old dog in their home.” As they made arrangements, Ron and Lisa told the vet that they thought it would be good for six-year-old Shane to observe the procedure. They felt as though Shane might learn something from the experience. The next day, the vet felt the familiar catch in his throat as Belker‘s family surrounded him. Shane seemed so calm, petting the old dog for the last time, that the vet wondered if he understood what was going on. Within a few minutes, Belker slipped peacefully away. The little boy seemed to accept Belker’s transition without any difficulty or confusion. They all sat together for a while after Belker’s Death, wondering aloud about the sad fact that dogs’ lives are shorter than human lives. Shane, who had been listening quietly, piped up, “I know why.” Startled, they all turned to him. What came out of his mouth next stunned the vet. He had never heard a more comforting explanation. He says that it changed the way he will try and live. “People are born so that they can learn how to live a good life - like loving everybody all the time and being nice, right? Well, dogs already know how to do that, so they don’t have to stay for as long as we do.” 🐾♥️🐾

I recently adopted a pit mix with allergies. He was at the shelter for a few months and not expected to live. He was homeless when with another dog when they were found. 8 years of being used and unloved to 4 years of being deeply loved and treasured. So happy Trixie had at least those four amazing years surrounded by unconditional acceptance and love filled with comfy beds and delicious foods. I sure do hope there's a Heaven for our animals. It is so rewarding to give an old dog a golden basket. I and my ex-wife adopted a 14-year-old dog from the shelter last year (February 2022). He was a stray dog and full of tumors and nobody wanted him. He passed away this year in May, so he had the best 15 months of his life. Such a sweet and kind boy. I would never want to miss out on that experience. The unconditional love they provide you with. Bless you you did the same for Trixie.

I miss my big girl so much, rescues at 7.5 and passed at 15.5…. No greater honour than being Mya’s guardian. 3 months ago, after three years, I adopted a GSD mix. She’s a year and reminds me of my beautiful girl every day. It is always an honour of having a sweet loving dog as a best friend.

I adopted a high-anxiety dog who was on trazadone. I weaned her off of it and with patience her tail un-tucked and she began to be a real dog. Now she sits on my lap and sleeps next to me. Don’t get me wrong I adore puppies (raised all 3 of mine since they were 4 months old & 4 & 5 weeks old)My boy was the runt & he was so small that he would fit inside a sweatshirt I’d wear when I was moving around the house & I bottle fed him every couple hours. My female Dobe was on death’s door when we found her but shes now 9 years old as they get older though there’s just something that makes them even more special;my chi who I’ve had since I was 12 we’re now 13 & almost 26 has gotten me through so much including helping me heal after yet another eye surgery (my mom saw the add for her in a newspaper while waiting for me to get out of surgery and it was like the stars aligned.)After everything she’s given me same goes for my giant oafs,the very least I can do is make sure they’re happy & comfortable as they continue to get more grey faced.🥹🩷🩷
