Several years ago, I was in the process of adopting an older dog who had been hit by a car and lost one of her back legs. The dog was sweet but seemed sad. On the day I was to take her home, the shelter called and said they gave her to a family. At first, I was a bit mad but they said the dog reacted happily when seeing them come in, especially the kids, and that it was, actually, their dog. They were told by a neighbor she had died after being hit by the car so they were mourning her (she was healed when I tried to adopt her so there was time between when they were told she died and then coming to look for another dog). They just happened to go to the shelter the day I was to get her so it was still a happy day. I told them to keep the money as a donation and, about a month later, my sister said a friend of hers took in a stray but their dog did not like her so they wanted to rehome her. She was with me for 15 years. 😊
@celestiafanforever
@celestiafanforever Жыл бұрын
I'm sorry but that neighbor lied to that family! Whoever they are they emotionally hurt a family! I'm not sure how young or old the kids are but to hear from a neighbor "Hey your dog got killed after being hit by a car" and to find your dog at a shelter missing a leg but alive and happy to see you again especially the kids after said neighbor basically lied to you and your family stating that your dog had died from being hit by a car. Either the dog ran off after being hit and someone else found her and took her to the shelter or the neighbor saw what happened, hated the dog, and took the dog to the shelter lying about her being a stray. That's pretty massed up. The only bright side is the dog's alive, a tri-pod ( a dog with three legs ) and back with her family.

My dog got on top of me in bed when I was sick because I was shivering. She was trying to warm me up. I thought she might be on to something to be so worried about me. My dog Bear (he looked like one when he was a pup) never got up onto my bed until I started receiving chemo treatments which made me very sick . He took it upon himself to jump up & rest his chin on my legs and stayed there until I felt well enough to get up , usually after 3 or 4 hours . Later , after my treatment ended , When I would lay on HIS couch while still tired from my ordeal , he would come to the couch and rub his cold wet nose on my face as if to say Get off of MY bed !

100%. Ages ago when I was very young, my beloved dog Daisy was lost for two weeks. No internet back then! My parents did EVERYTHING possible to try to find her. My house was full of despair, just indescribable. Then, our local radio station, WKER, which would always broadcast lost and found pets, read out about a dog found a few towns over. My Pop Pop heard it and told us, and we went to the house, after having had our hearts broken over and over again with false alarms - and this time, it was her. Filthy and about 20 pounds lighter, she was so excited to see us, the poor baby vomited all over the carpet of the very nice family who had found her (my dad gave them some $$ in compensation, but they were so kind, they weren't upset at all). If it hadn't been for that family putting it out there that they'd found a dog, for the radio station announcing it, and for my Pop Pop hearing the announcement, we might not have found her. Good people, doing the right thing. Thank you, all good people out there. ❤

Edit: Heres some info about microchips bc y'all are being really fucking annoying (I'm a registered vet tech so I know what I'm talking about) - It's not a GPS - You can choose what information you disclose to the microchip company - When a microchip scanner is used on your pet, the only thing that shows up is the registration number and the number of the microchip company - A random person is not able to get your personal info from your pet if they're microchipped - To obtain your contact info for a lost pet, for example, the vet clinic will contact the microchip company and the company will contact you and then you can consent or decline your info being shared - Microchips only work if you register the microchip and keep the information updated if your phone number or address change - Microchips are tiny and fit inside a 15-gauge needle - Pets are usually sedated for microchip insertion since it's often done at the same time as a spay/neuter - Pets don't require sedation for a microchip so if you're not doing any surgeries for your pet but still want them chipped you can do this and it doesn't hurt too much - I put one in a big dog and he didn't even notice - Pets don't know they're microchipped and can't feel it because it's way too small - The average cost I could find in the US and Canada is $25-$75 and most places I've been to in Canada have been $50 (including really cheap and more expensive clinics) - Microchipping doesn't mean that you shouldn't put an identification tag and rabies tag on your dog - Microchipping and up-to-date rabies tags are the best way to prove legal ownership over your pet

@@vlinder0108 I’m glad. A lot of ppl will book spays/neuters and then decline doing microchipping (which is usually done at the same time). So they choose to spend a good amount of money already with the neutering but then still try to cheap out on the little things. It was disappointing to see…

The chip is tiny and sits harmlessly under the skin. What I have seen is a ton of dogs and cats who could have been reunited with their families in a very short time have to go off to the shelter, where, if they find their dogs, they have to pay a big fine to retrieve them.

@@DanielRumbacher This is a Border Collie, and while they are very smart, they also have tons of energy... if a door is left open, they are gonna go run and burn energy. She could've just been preoccupied with new sights and sounds, instinctively trying to herd things, looking for her people, etc, and went too far and got disoriented, or she could be too young to know her way home, or someone could have picked her up and driven her to another unfamiliar location, or even straight to the shelter. Does this look like a dog who was trying to escape a bad home? Does this look like a dog who doesn't love her people? Sure, they should've been more responsible owners and had her microchipped and/or collared & tagged, but I can relate to procrastinating on things like that, thinking nothing like this will ever happen (and it probably wouldn't have in the owners' care... this was a petsitter who left a door open). Or even better. Just dont buy animals for Christmas. The numbers Auf killed dogs and cats because of Christmas is insanely high. In our country they assume that like 350.000 pets get killed per year. And I bet US is as always leading the boards. Adopting is not changing anything. If people truly love animals in general, they would let them be as they were meant to be. Love the cat of my parents, but he will never leave that place his whole life.

@@bigbaba1509 Fine sentiment, but we've breeded and domesticated dogs past the realm of releasing them back into the wild. Lots of dog species that are permanently here to stay, as strays or as pets, are incapable of surviving on their own in the wild. The ethical option in my opinion is to therefore adopt, but not breed these kinds of dogs. That'd be wishful thinking though.

@@amandaedgar4530 That would be true for a human being (they'd be that one cranky person in the room that isn't happy that someone is celebrating something amazing) but these are dogs. They react to scent and emotions, they compute and see the world in a completely different way than we do. Their barks carry their emotions and their feelings, every single dog in that place knew EXACTLY what was going on without being told because they do not have the same limitations as human beings. Also, the excitement on the other dog's faces and body language was pretty clear. As much as we love and adore them, animals and humans ARE different from each other and they most certainly hold the higher calibre imho

This exact thing happened to me when Tofu was 4 months old. I was at work & had my parents watched them! My mom left patio door opened, Tofu came out to explore! He got abducted! I didn't have a chance to put a microchip in him. I posted flyers everywhere. I cried & was so worried! I have ZERO social media. All moms & grandma from my neighborhood posted Tofu's pic all over! His pic even got all the way to New York lol. Three days later, a man called. He said, "Look I don't want to make this call, but my mom said I need to do the right thing. I'm calling you to let you know I have your dog. My daughter loves him so much I didn't want to make this call." I didn't care. At midnight, I drove to his house and picked up Tofu. PS... His mom saw Tofu's pic on Craigs List & Facebook. So glad they united! We love happy ending!

@@ronsamborski6230 I didn't get out of that that he stole the dog. I got out of that that he probably purchased the dog from someone that stole the dog. Next time, come at me correct. I'm not siding with someone that stole a dog. And in my opinion, if he did steal the dog, he wouldn't care what his mom said because he was a horrible person that stole a dog. But as I said, I'm thinking he bought the dog from someone that stole it and sold it to him. Don't come at me like that, as if I'm some horrible person that's all for dognapping because I'm not. That's not what my statement was trying to convey. Good day to you!
