Knowing that dogs can get more information about their environment using the sense of smell, than humans can get with the sense of sight, I am certain that a dog with no sight has an even more accurate sensory perception, through the sense of smell, compared to other dogs. Of course, it would easier to map out the environment with sight & smell, but doggo's sense of smell is amazing!

I don't understand why they were recommending to put her to sleep. Dog's have exceptional senses of smell, they use their nose more than their eyes anyway, Kida proves that very well. Never give up on a life that can have a chance at living happily just cus they are slightly less advantaged. Kida is lovely and I'm so glad she got the chance to live a happy and pretty much normal dog life :)

Some people think about the extra effort and believe it’s right to put an animal down because they “will be in pain” which makes me mad. The animals live a happy rest of their lives with the owners who decided to not put them down. We see that a lot with these pet videos. It’s great proving these “experts” wrong (not to sound mean).

Unfortunately most people would rather put the dog down than pay for the eye surgery and the follow up care. Plus the expense of padding table legs and removing trip hazards so the dog wouldn't hurt itself. Sooooo many people don't want to have to deal with the time and extra expenses that come with having a disabled pet. It's a shame people put disabled dogs down when there are those who want a dog no matter what. I'm disabled and I've adopted 2 disabled pets. It's harder for them to get adopted but it's worth the effort because they love so much.

From what I know of the blind pup community this is a perfect example/representation of what we wish to communicate to others! Some pups take a little longer adjusting than others but they are absolutely amazing! My pup (in my picture) had a spinal infection and then battled “conjunctivitis” before going blind overnight. He actually had complete retinal detachment in both eyes as well. Amazingly 2.5 months later they reattached and he now has partial vision again! Because of him I volunteer with Blind Dog Rescue Alliance. The only other thing I’d add is Eyes are always emergencies when it comes to dogs and ophthalmologists are preferred.

It is natural for dog lovers to want to know how dogs feel. In fact, dogs communicate a lot with their whole body. Not only their tails and whines, but also their gestures and behaviors can tell you a lot about how they are feeling. For example, even gestures such as yawning can contain messages. Knowing the meaning behind each of these gestures may help you get closer to your dog!🐕🐕🐕🐕🐶🐶🐶🐶🐶😻😻

Blessing to you for keeping Kida. My four year old Kuvasz Sarah has been blind since birth. When we went to adopt her sister Sadie at the kennel we saw how bonded the two sisters were and bundled up both for return to the Kuvasz Ranch where we had four other dogs on four fenced in acres of ground. We are amazed every day at how Sarah navigates through the yard and wooded areas of the property. When we call her in from the "Back Forty" she simply avoids all the rocks and bushes and trees and makes a bee line to us as if her lack of sight is no problem. She is the sweetest dog one could have, and yet at 145 pounds could put a real hurt on something if she had a mind to do so. She loves Daddy brushing her every day and stands by my desk after dinner awaiting me to get the brush for her.
