Geoff changed the whole message of the song with his version. It seems hobo Geoff is travelling to meet his true lover on that golden shore. When he disappeared like a ghost at the end, it seemed that he reached his destination. No more sorrow.

I was confused, at first, when you said "Northern Accent." But then, I remembered that the first British folk to emigrate American South came from the English North. So your Northern accent is our Southern one (especially Kentucky, where the first composer of this song was born and raised, as he told us). My fuzzy brain moment aside, this was a fascinating analysis.

Geoff just continues to amaze me every day, like the talent that he has is just insane. I love that he does have such control over his voice and how he uses it in a proper way, that just makes the musical nerd part of me happy🥰 I also love all of the chords in this too, they all give me chills every time I listen to this song. The original is somewhat repetitive but with Geoff's addition of the brdge he wrote it makes it even more interesting. And it fits so well. People asked if he played the guitar in this and he said yes, but he did it on the keyboard. :) He clearly knows a few chords though.

That 3rd verse! I had to re-listen and yank up my piano app (my electric keyboard died). The song had been going along I-IV-V-I and suddenly that G sneaks in there, shifting it into the minor, and THEN into the IV. Then into B major, followed by the return of the G natural and... OMG, a B augmented chord! Goose bumps! And then the added bridge made me grab a pillow and hug it. Watching your videos makes me want to dig out my college music theory books from storage. Thank you. I just adore the bridges Geoff writes for various songs ("Now, now, now, take me to the water.." in this one, "Can you ever know how you build..." in Golden Hour, and "Snow is on the ground..." in Christmas Don't Be Late" for example). At the end, when he fades away, he's gone to "God's golden shore."

More specifically, it's a Bluegrass song (check out Ralph Stanley's version, which was in 'O Brother, Where Art Thou'). So he's actually taking a Bluegrass song, and turning it into Country Rock.

That is my question for your analysis or essay to do what I want you to do, because to explain and to explore what different or new music theories about genre theory. Another question: analysis or essay, what is the evolution of music genre in any decades and how it changed in 2023?

But a VERY different feel to Home Free's version no? And low note practice ... 15:52 ... "Why do I even try?" 😁 Because you have to you know. Yep, I watched & listened to his "drop" (2 or 3x and the stop & start) :) ........ To me and my ear --- to start, it was a lil heavy on an unnatural "draw" of "being country". That being said, it smoothed out and nearly lost most all that and really became good with a more natural sound. I mind or realize the length of your reaction all all, it passed like it was 5mins. :) Be Safe

I do not know if you have listened to any of his interviews here on the tubes. He says he self compresses his highs so he is closer to volume with the lows and makes it easier to edit and filter.
