Here's how I beat you. 1. I love Switzerland, I've been there so many times. So I knew the landscape around Sion, but I wasn't fully sure about it because you actually see more buildings than mountains. I put the marker on Sion anyway because the French was another big hint. I also looked for a more horizontal road on the map. But the guess was still more than 1km away. 2. As you said it yourself, this city had a big city vibe and that's why Bangkok was a pretty safe bet. Then I looked for a road with a small channel or river next to it and found out Bangkok is covered with them like crazy. Actual spot was 3.6km away... 3. I saw the "...castle" on the bins and could only think of Newcastle in England. I decided to look for Cookson Close next to small green areas on the map. After a while, I found it. Perfect score. 4. The first thing I saw was actually the "Corri Catania" ad. I looked for the hotels and only found the Centrale Europe. I decided to scan everything for clues to the east (said "west" before the edit) of Centrale Europe on the map. I was about to give up when I stumbled across the Topsicily market. Perfect score, but only because I was patient enough. 5. This one was hard. The setting was telling me it's Mexico but other than that the only thing that came to my mind was the rather tropical vegetation. I chose a random city in the southern part of Mexico. It wasn't too bad, only 269km away. Total score is 24111.

My incompetent thought process for this round: 1) For whatever reason I read the clues/signs in a Spanish accent out loud. "Yeaaa I could see this being Spain, maybe France I'll go close to the border". *2627 points.* I'm bad. 2) That's a flag, confident it's either Thailand or Cambodia. Surely it's Cambodia, letters seem to match up nicely, Cambodia it is. *3405 points.* 3) It's UK, surely. Bins say something something castle? Newcastle is the only place I know with Castle in the name, not feeling confident at all, click randomly, *4996 points.* Let's go. 4) Sign says Sicily, spent a little time looking around for clues. Didn't find much, figured Mapper picks the largest cities so i pick the one that stands out the most. *4997 points* Probably my luckiest back to back "guesses" ever. Stoked. Getting close to my goal of 20k points which I haven't reached on Urban World no moving before. 5) Fairly confident it's spanish, but no clue where. "Spain could look like this, surely it could". Solid *8 points.* Mexico didn't even cross my mind. I'm trash. 16033 in total. So to sum up, I don't know what Spain looks like and I'm shit at flags.
@arianam99775 жыл бұрын
As a Spaniard I can tell you that the first round looked very Northern Spanish to me! Then I saw the "sortie" sign, which is French, and said, oh no xd But appart from that everything looks very northern Spanish, including the weather 🙃 So you weren't that bad actually 😁
@arianam99775 жыл бұрын
Lol, I kept reading and number 5 omg 😂 Spain doesn't look like that at all :| Just imagine Spain as what it is, western European, like a mix of French, Italian, Portuguese and German.

#5 The Ford F150 is a solid clue that this is in Mexico, or at least close to there, a very American car. I guessed the north of Mexico, since it looked fairly wealthy for Mexico, but that turned out wrong. I guess there is tourist money in the south too.
@MorningNapalm4 жыл бұрын
#2 Thai flag, spent some time looking at the green sign right in front of the camera, and looked around Thailand for big cities a bit, managed to match up the script for Bangkok. Spent some time looking at straight canals with roads on both sides and a roundabout nearby, as well as the curved building. Found it eventually, with help from the compass directions and the curved building. The roundabout is for some reason not on the map, so multiple clues saved me there. Then I blew it on the last one, picking north Mexico instead of south, and having had a weak guess on the first place, as well as choosing Oxford instead of Newcastle, ended up with 18922. Missed the castle bit, just couldn't read that.

So bummed. I got a perfect score in Catania and Bangkok, but guessed Brazil on the last one and threw all my progress away. In Bangkok I was looking for roads that were next to a canal, road orientation was crucial there. Also, the building with all the flags out front had me thinking "oh, I wonder if that's like the UN or something," and it totally was a UN building, so I knew I was at the right place. That building was also why I figured it must be the capital. Although at first I looked at that roundabout and thought it might be the same one that was in Phuket a couple weeks ago (next to Phuket Grocery). In Catania I somehow managed to find Manganelli Palace. Once I did it was relatively easy to find that little plaza/park on the corner.

Fun fact, the first one had to be in Switzerland because of the construction equipment. They have those exact stripy wooden barriers just about everywhere in Switzerland, and they're always exactly the same. Then the signage wasn't consistent with French one where you don't have as much blue one, and rarely yellow road paint. and the extra bit for me was the bus stop. I've lived in Switzerland a while and that's the typical swiss bus stop look they have everywhere as well. It's kind of amazing but those details are rather uniform across the country :)

1: Saw "Sion" on the sign that said "SAROSA SA". Unfortunely, I thought Sion was in France and could therefore not find it. Went somewhere close to Monaco, so I lost out on a bunch of points. 2: Obviously, the Thai flags gave it away. No other clues, though, so I did the same and just went for Bangkok. Decent amount of points. 3: Instantly felt like a British city. I did not see the Newcastle clues, so I went for Manchester as I thought the houses looked quite in line with a production city. 4: Saw that it said Catania and spent quite some time trying to locate one of the places on the white sign. Eventually found the palace, went east to find a small speck of green, then saw the Supermarket and got it spot on. 5: Had literally no clue. Felt like South America or Mexico. I went with Colombia, sadly, so nowhere near a good score on this round.

Very dumb for me... 3556 Points Second Round: Just saw a Thai flag and put in the capital (Bangkok) 4994 Points Third Round: I messed the things up and I thought it was in Netherlands... 3292 Points Fourth Round: Saw Catania written, went for Catania, Italy 4996 Points Fifth Round: It seemed kinda Arab but when I looked around I saw that that was an South American/Centre American country. Saw the car plate and it kinda looked like the USA one. Went for Mexico City. 3487 Points.
@piranha52115 жыл бұрын
Sarosa SA is a company name; the SA stands for "Société Anonyme" in French-speaking countries, a type of company similar to a public limited company in the UK. Loads of countries have SAs, which conveniently abbreviate all alike in Romance languages. So even if you don't know the language, you know that's a company, not a place. The city was on one of the construction banners though (my eyes hurt).

Perfect score in Catania was very easy... Biggest clue was not the hotel, but the shape of the park, you were standing by... Parks are always colored green on the map, and you can really easilly find them...
@jasonpatterson80915 жыл бұрын
One the Bangkok one, the building with flags is the UN Center for Thailand. That hit me when I saw the nice building with world flags and statues. Spent half an hour scouring the city for it with no luck (even with the canal and complicated intersection for helpers) but Google requires you to be so far zoomed in that it was hopeless. Very frustrating to see a clue that good and not be able to use it because the map simply won't display a prominent building.

I'll try...... we'll see how lame that goes Round 1: Saw some French language on the signs... so France? No idea which part though... it seems quite warm so I'll guess somewhere around Beziers. 3600 points :( somehow I totally forgot about Switzerland even though it did look like it, oops Round 2: Sooooooo many flags but I'm reeeeally bad at recognizing them, so, no help there. The cars are driving on the left and the writing looks maybe Thai so I'll guess a bit outside of Bangkok. 4825 points, damn it I should've gone closer to the centre Round 3: Well, that's UK... possibly around a bigger city... I'll go Manchester cause I have no idea 4422 points... not too terrible haha Round 4: Great, saw something saying Catania and then some other signs with some hotels, spent 10 minutes and found Centrale Europa and I'll guess around there. 4995 points - it's good but of course not a perfect score like the Wizard's... Round 5: Uhhhhhhhhhhh first thought somewhere in South America... the colours on that billboard look Argentinian? But do they have palm trees there? haha I don't know I'll just go where I think it's warm in Argentina. 29 points . 17871 points total. Yay! I finally got one for where I live! I'm American, but I live in Bangkok! But you could have gotten that one spot on if you focused more on that lineup of flagpoles with different countries' flags. That was the United Nations office and it's clearly marked on the map. i got the Catania one spot on also. I figured the Sicily location same way you did. But I figured out it was Catania..be cause the road is dead straight to the north and you can clearly see a big mountain in the distance. Catania is the only bit Sicily city where if you look dead north you're in the mountains. Then I found the location by looking for that little park to the east (green area). I didn't do that great on the other 3. Did really bad on the last one (Mexico). Like you, i was thrown off by the sun location and incorrectly figured we must be south of the equator! I got a perfect score in Bangkok, Newcastle and Cartania without knowing any of these places. In Bangkok there was an channel right next to our location and a quite big junction right in front of us. That combination ist relatively easy to find. In Newcastle I searched for that little park in the middle of a residential area and found Cookson close. (Ok, Newcastle actually was the only ...castle in knew. :D) And in Cartania there also was a small park which made me find the right location. And actually you were right by saying that there is the sea to the south. Just spend a few more seconds in analysing the geography than searching for some random hotels. And just because I went to northern Mexico I got less points than you in the full results. -.-

First time playing along, let's see how it goes lol round 1: saw the french language and the landscape, so i picked a french town not too far from the alps (Gap)... 4309 points, not too bad considering i wasn't thinking about switzerland at all round 2: saw all the thai flags and went straight for bangkok, scanned a min or two looking for a road going in that direction, with some sort of canal on its right...got it spot on, 5k pts and only 4,6 meters away round 3: easy britain guess, but due to the lack of clues (i couldn't really read the bins so i missed the "-castle") plus the fact that i'm not from the uk... that could be literally anywhere, so i went like in the middle, somewhere around birmingham and got 4114 pts, shame cause i was thinking about going a bit more north, rip score round 4: oh hello italy, my homeland lol, even though i've never been to catania that wasn't hard to find, the biggest clue was the tiny park on the right... which was pretty easy to find on the map, 5k pts in the bag (also, the "altri" you mentioned simply means "others", the sign indicates some hotel names but in general that most of the hotels were in that direction) round 5: yeah really, spanish speaking country in central-south america, i was thinking about the tiny countries south of mexico but the sun kinda throw me off and i decided to go for argentina, also that light blue sign made me think about their football national team, the guy reminded me of messi who was born in rosario so i clicked there and got a whopping 42 points! So yeah, final score is 18465. I'm not too disappointed since it's the first time i play along, and if it wasn't for the last round i could've had a decent score!

On the Sicily one you did better than it appears here. GeoGuesser is showing the wrong location, the right one is closer to your pick. However you missed a very faint street sign (Via Monsignor [something]). That helped me get to the exact corner (1 meter away from the spot).

I am a woman. Got introduced to the game by a woman and introduced it to my bf. I am a bit bored by the stereotypical jokes... I played soccer and am a neuroscientist so I’ve had my fair share of sexist jokes. Pls don’t subject me to them when I am enjoying my free time. 😅

24987, my best score by far. Perfect scores in Sion, Bangkok and Catania. Now it's easier because of updates, the Bangkok one allows to read one sign with the name of a bridge and the Catanian one the name of the long street. Mexican one is also updated and the sun seems to be a little more to the south than the north. Somehow by supposing the sea was downhill (to the North), and the street directions, i guessed the correct city. And the Newcastle one could have been a perfect score if Id spend more time looking at the gardens.

I'm like a year late, and idk if anyone has pointed it out - but the NE1 on the bin was a Newcastle postcode so that gave it away

1. The banner on the construction you zoomed in right on the beggining said Sion. Started looking on the West side and was literally looking around Avenue du Petit-Chasseur while i was zoomed in on the bus stop that was barely readable and correlated pretty well to Petit-Chasseur. Was pretty lucky there. The bus stops on the map and the "enlargement" of the road thru me off for a bit but ended up finding the exact place. 5000 points. 2. Why does Bangkok has to have so many mini-rivers??? I looked a lot. Ended up clicking near the center, where there where a lot of "official looking"/governamental landmarks, because of the flags on the buildings. Clicked on the parallel mini-river, right next to the one of the objective. 1,2km off. 4996 poiints. 3. Knew it was UK. I know nothing about regions, never been there or anything. Couldn't read the bin. Kinda had a Scotland feeling so i went for Scotland. 321km away, 3979 points. 4. If you ask me how i got these 5000 points, i really couldn't tell...searched a lot lot. Looked like the sea was to the South. Finnally found the Albergo Centrale Europa (nowhere near Piazza Europa :/), kept going West, and a little up I found a police thingy (that big building looked like a prison to me or something like that so i was looking for the police symbol), to the north of it, it correlated with the mini-park and the roads on the side of it. I was looking for a long time already and was already about to give up, so as soon as i saw that slight correlation, i just clicked there, didn't even check or confirmed anything. 5000 points :/ 5. No frickin idea. I don't know much about Geoguessr as i'm new to this, but from central america, only had Guatemala and Mexico. Guatemala is really montainous so went to Mexico, more to the south. No kidding, was about to click Coatzacoalcos but went for Tuxtla Gutiérrez bc it didn't look like it was near the shore. Didn't notice all the mountains near Tuxtla Gutiérrez either smh...211,8km away, 4301 points. 24233 points. The UK one "ruined" the score. Pretty proud of myself tho, as i'm not really good at this, normally xD

Got a perfect score in Catania, looked for a tiny park and found it. Then my first instinct was Mexico, but I got fooled by the sun and went for Brazil, game over ( total 18401).

I did 2 perfect scores in Bangkok and Sicily both in about 5mn, I’m proud to be able to find some even when GeoGuessr wizard can’t! For Bangkok were along a NW-SE river near a bridge and weird roundabout, and there is an international curved building with all the flags In Sicily I saw the basilica della collegiata and the small park we’re by is just east

I just played my very first game after watching you for a couple weeks and played the US map because I've been all over here but never left the country, and I got 4995 my very first go on an empty highway in north Dakota with absolute shit camera resolution.

Rather fun game. 1. Switzerland didn't even cross my mind. I went with Clermon Ferand, so a meh score. 2. I can't believe my luck. I was playing a game like a week ago and landed in Bangkok on that very same street just a bit to the south. Instatnly recognized it and fairly quickly found the UN building on the map so got a perfect score! 3. My knowledge of British cities sucks. I couldn't read the bin so I just guessed that we were in a more northern part of England considering the way it looked. Went with Leeds. So the score was alright. 4. Ah, this one was beautiful. Found the Catania poster right away and then just looked at the map for little parks since we were right next to one. And voila found it within a minute. Kinda lucky I guess, but still proud of it. Perfect score #2. 5. Fucked this one up royaly. I trusted the Sun too much even though I know that during sunset and sunrise it's not realiable. So I went Brazil. And got squat. 18555 overall. Meh score, but I am happy I got atleast 2 perfects. Fun game, great video.

Ayyyy I'm studying at uni in Newcastle and if the bins weren't there I would have been totally lost. NE1 was a big give away considering I live in NE3.

The 3rd Round on the Bin NE1 would refer to the postcode of that area. Example NE1 6TP or NE14 4TP. Surprised you didn't catch that.

So I'm a dumdum and I accidentally scrolled far enough to see "Sion" and "Newcastle"... but the others were legit. The one in Thailand was obviously Bangkok, I guessed on a random spot not too far from a random river and got 4992. The one in Catania was... a miracle. I saw Catania but not enough info to guess where, so I clicked a random intersection... and was within 6m!!!!! 5000 points. The last one I couldn't get, guessed Mexico City, close enough to beat you though.
@V0r4xiz5 жыл бұрын
In the first city, the "SAROSA SA" sign said "Sion" in the upper left corner. You missed that :) And it was Sion.
