As an outsider to this amazing sport, is there a discussion about the scoring method? It's ok, somehow produces exciting enough games, but it's unbalanced and often unfair and too much luck based. It could be slightly adjusted to be way better. First, just change the graphics to clearly show who won the guess. Even the commentary is confused many times, especially at the endgame. Secondly, the damage multiplier slide is not ideal. With 11,000 damage in the final rounds nothing before really matters. The curve should be reduced (for example increase every two guesses from x1, 1.25, 1.5, 2, 2.5 and x3 at most from guess 11 onwards) It would make games a bit longer and more balanced, putting more emphasis on skill rather than the fact that the same differences between players in later rounds are worth wayyyyyy more. Thirdly, it seems that sometimes luck is too powerful. When neither player knows the location but one happened to guess more north or smth that's dumb luck and sure that's a part of sports but it often completely takes away the significance of the skill from the entire round, especially with huge multipliers and often both players are almost equally as far from the goal. When both sides just flip a coin and one wins due to luck it's much less satisfying. Maybe one way to adjust the scores is a log function between the distance and points given. It rewards big for skillful guesses, when both players are close to the 5,000 the difference in points between them will be bigger then it is now (no more 5,000->4,987... Both are great guesses but the closer you are the more valuable it must be credited), and it deals not as much damage when both guesses are far, so as not to reward nor damage either of the players too significantly when they're both essentially guessing...

Reading this many months later. And I agree on basically all your points. The luck factor was very annoying. And maybe they put the round limit to have a clear idea about the Max time possible for each match. But at least for the Finals they could let it end only through skill. At a minimum. Would be awesome if they could schedule around no round limits though. Maybe 4000 health instead of 6000 with the multipliers increasing at the rate you provided would let games end quick enough but still be decided mainly by skill rather than the multi

Can't believe the world champion just won by default because they reached 10 rounds. Let them fight till the end at least. Geoguesser format always bugged me.
