Unlike the West, we don’t try to impose our system or values on others. Different strokes for different folks. Our system works well for us. It doesn’t bother us if others don’t like it. Frankly, western style democracy is overrated. Prioritising individual rights over the larger public good led to out of control infection rates and unnecessarily high death tolls in most of the Western world during this Covid pandemic. The pandemic has truly been an acid test of good governance. And most of the West failed miserably. When you’re dead because your government failed to protect your most basic human right, the right to life, democracy is irrelevant .

I don't know people love democracy of any type. "Democracy is a way by which majority rules over minority" See for example the democracy of Israel where they have a part in constitution of a mission to maintain 80% Jewish majority so they could show themselves as democratic and do fascism on others

Why Democracy is the best form of Govt? Coz it's an unaccountable form of Govt. For eg right now we can criticize the role of the American President in Afghanistan. In other forms of govt that wouldn't be possible. You would be either in jail or dead

What about Malaysia also has a very large investments and please make a unbiased video of Malaysia's investment and it's strategic ties with china and especially about (Belt and road initiative).
@FaizalMohdMustapa3 жыл бұрын
Well let me help you. Despite china being Malaysia largest trading partners it is also a defisit in nature. MY like china are both middle income country trying to reach the develop nation status. So Malaysia Don't find chinese relationship all that appealing Normal Malaysian meanwhile do not have a favorable view of the belt & road simply because all of the infrastructure that the Chinese build are overpriced while being of lower quality then what Malaysian could build themselves case in point the Chinese charge 200% more for half a railway then what Malaysian could do themselves. So most Malaysian see Chinese investment not as a blessing but a curse the result of Chinese bribing the political elite which in part lead to the downfalls of the previous government. Culturally, Malaysia has a history of terrorism from the 50s till the 90s as a result of communist insurgency that are Inspired by Maoism & then sponsored by CCP. They always see Communism as a threats & are always wary of Chinese intension. It also doesn't help that the British, Australian,NZ were the one offered a helping hand to us while we are facing the insurgency & the relative prosperity that the Brits had bring during colonialization like Singapore aren't seen in a bad light. And thus when force to choose, MY would always pick the western sides. Malaysia favorable view of the west and the fact that Australian maintain a base here while SG host a US & UK 'facilities' while Brunei hosted a UK garrison, having a formal but non binding defense relationship with SG,UK, AUS & NZ (3 of which are US allies) while at the same time allowing US to use MY airbase & port allowed her to be more confidence & vocal towards Chinese intrusion. I think Chinese foreign minister says it well. MY is a two face country who cry about Chinese naval & Arial exercise but never bat an eyes to the American who do the same. MY problem is the non consensual in ASEAN in how to deal with china and thus mostly pretend to be neutral but trying hard to get other countries not just in ASEAN but in Europe as well to be involved but at the same time fake pretend neutrality and ask everyone to go home.

Nice Video! But just to dispute 2 points you have brought up. 1) Benign Autocracy. Till this day Lee Kuan Yew’s reputation has been intact and memory of him invoke his great leadership in giving Singapore the foundation for what we are today. It is utter nonsense to call him a dictator. It’s an insult to put him in the same category with men who kill their own to preserve their powers. Lee never kill anyone! We have elections without fail every 4-5 years during and after his premiership! He won landslide after landslide, not 90-100% but between 62-75% between 1965-1991. Hardly a rubber-stamp election! Dissenters are just weak and incapable hence why they want to leave Singapore. Had they had the support of the majority they would have won the election. 2) Singapore is absolutely a democracy. And we inherited a British system of government as well as a vibrant economy through the hard work, intellectual capabilities and tact. Our democracy is strong and despite the PAP hold on power, we saw more participation and seats won by opposition parties. PAP won their seats squarely and if anyone can see how they managed Singapore over the last 56 years as well as the pandemic; they deserve better! We will survive, strive and will have many good years to come! A loyal Singaporean.

Singaporeans shouldn't be ashamed. This video is just western centric and looks you from that perspective. Democracy is just so overrated. A wise autocrat will get things done better than a messy democracy. My point is: Democracy and autocracy are just systems. They only work as well as the people behind it. Singapore is the most succesful autocratic state. In many cases, you need a wise autocrat to implement reforms regardless of the obstacles. I myself believe, democracy and autocracy are just temporary solutions to achieve meritocracy, when after many decades the population is finally ready for it.

Singapore is a full democratic country . You need to know the full definition and understanding of democracy. By the singapore is a full democratic country, which developed itself with the use of brain power. Not by the resources , it also didn't have any resources . It developed mind , they used the core of the brain by transforming it.🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄

Singapore is a democracy, yes, but in the course of our history as a nation, there were times where our leadership were authoritarian and in some aspects, still are. Take Operation Coldstore and Operation Spectrum for example. Shock and awe tactics were used to arrest dissidents and instill fear in the populace from ever speaking up against something they disagreed with. You cannot deny that this part of our history existed. Things have improved since then, but the side effects of those years still manifest today as Singaporeans are generally more apathetic towards government policies and international issues unless it affects them personally. LKY said it himself, that democracy can be suspended. In today's context, journalists are under threat of being sued for defamation or coerced into taking down their articles under POFMA if they publish any articles that the government deem not in the interest of the public (very subjective). Remnants of the authoritarian past still lingers today.
@gwenlee1912 жыл бұрын
It’s called engineered cohesion (eg majority of population to be ethnically Chinese etc - easy to govern as we only want to take care of ourselves due to our dna, Chinese just wants to make $ for themselves etc ) for a small city state to be well-oiled and to function, we also do need political stability we don’t need the politics envisioned by the west, stability to carry out plans n execute and to have sufficient runway to materialise its long term plans. Early eradication of corruption within politics is what helped. Singaporeans cite high paying salaries of Singapore ministers as a problem but if u look at more corrupted governments the unstated earnings of politicians outweigh what our ministers are paid. Still a very sore point and debatable point in Singapore re ministers salaries, personally as long as the govt continues to deliver what it says it will do and keep planning way ahead the population will still vote the incumbent.
