George Blackmore BBC Theatre Organ 1961. So let's us go right back to the old BBC Light Program on Saturday, August 5th 1961. When "Melodies & Memories" was broadcast with George Blackmore seated at the BBC Moller theatre organ and he was joined by singers Ursula Conners and Edward Darling. Who I believe was in fact, husband and wife. I could find no pictures of either of these singers sadly to use. An interesting look back 63 years to what the BBC thought was what people wanted to listen to back then! Maybe not the younger generation I better add. This was taken from a strange reel-to-reel tape a Ferrograph tape type which did not want to play well and does have a bit of tape hiss I tried to take the worst of this out but it seemed as if you take too much noise out then it seems you kill the whole recording. So it's a fine balance but an interesting musical snapshot back in time to those times 63 years ago now. What a pity we did not keep that fine Moller organ in the UK.

This really is a gem. George is on great form-he really has the measure of the Moller! The collaboration with Ursula Connors on I Heard You Singing, is exquisite. And the Mollers "moos" during Paddy O'Flynn's wedding. What a splendid instrument. Thanks Kev!

Another Maestro of the Theatre Organ, George Blackmore. I heard him more than once at the City School in Stradbroke Road, Sheffield, when he played for the Sheffield Theatre Organ Enthusiasts. I believe he came from Rochester in Kent. Thank You for these brilliant 'echoes of yesteryear', much appreciated!

Yes, that's right! Wonderful Radio One was still 6 years away! Mind the coming of the Pop Pirates at Easter 1964 "Radio Caroline" changed the world of radio back then. I well remember my uncle telling me as we drove along in his big old Ford Zodiac car that this was a pirate radio station he had on it was the Big L "Radio London" At the age I was I was back then I was quite disappointed when I first saw Tony Blackburn on the TV he did not have a wooden leg an eye patch or a parrot on his shoulder! Happy days thanks for the super comments they mean a lot. kev.
