One of Muhammad Ali's most famous fights was the Rumble in the Jungle, where he defeated George Foreman for the heavyweight title in Kinshasa, Zaire in 1974. After that fight, Ali and Foreman became lifelong friends. Foreman joins "CBS This Morning" from Huffman, Texas, to reflect on his friendship with Ali.

Actually after his loss to Ali he went into a dark place. Just came from a vid by The Modern Martial Artist. Search the night Foreman faced 5 men by The Modern Martial Artist and you'll see. But it is very respectable that he brought himself back and learned from his mistakes. The more mistakes you make, the more potentially wise you become. Potentially because some people just stay bitter but those who can forgive themselves and others come out wiser

Liz G. You and many others miss the whole view of Muhammad Ali, he's not called the greatest because of what he did in the ring, he's the greatest because of what he done inside and outside of the ring. If you know his story, you know what I'm talking bout. He never bent, he never folded, stood tall against it all.... fighters these days don't have that type of heart or affiliation with the people as Ali did...

It was a brilliant answer but the question wasn't dumb. The "rope-a-dope" is probably in the webster dictionary and no one really is born with the ambition to be tied to that. He had to grow beyond that and understand his story and the lessons of his story in order to communicate his larger live lessons. Not everybody woulda been able to get past that, much less befriend the guy who humbled you. That was the genesis of the question, I think.

The unfiltered Foreman stories would be great because whenever he's on TV nowadays he's in salesman mode 50% of the interview. To appear I'm certain he said they had to mention the grill. They did.

Although his face is fierce and violent when he is in the boxing ring and certainly many opponents are afraid when they want to face him, but outside the ring, George Foreman is actually a gentle and kind person who easily smiles and gets along with friends, especially if we know him more closely. He is a large man who always thinks big and broad when he is with his friends. He is also very careful and polite if he wants to let go of his words". May our Uncle George always be in the best of health, Champ.

@@suf1an658 oh man I never heard about that! I'm going to read about it and find out though. These fights were before my time so I dont know details like that, but thanks for telling me because this seems like it must have been the golden age of boxing having all 3 of those guys fighting at once, and I'm fascinated by their talent. Wish I was alive then to have seen their fights and the aftermath and the smaller details lost to time.

Foreman was right. Ali's presence was highly special. I had the honor of talking with him in 1979 backstage at the LA Forum for 35 minutes. I had built a prop for that TV show. Ali cared more about discussing that instead of discussing his boxing career history.

His character is adorable and greater than any material or fame achievements this earth could offer...
