Now I see where George Gruhn’s new guitar has its roots. George resurrected the Tacoma Tear Drop Cutaway with the bolt on neck. Brilliant, George! Thanks.

What a wonderful hour a guitar enthusiast could spend. George claims thee essentials go into a good guitar. Design, craftsmanship, and quality of materials. I own and play an inexpensive Hohner Gruhn Designed D2 that I will never part with. Thank you Mr Gruhn for your contributions to the guitar universe.

guitartec Take care of The Guitar Shop, and Mr Gruhn. I was an avid enthusiast in the late 60s and mid 7os there on broadway. Enjoy your coming home and make Nashville smile one more time. From 4th all the way out to hickeryhollow. Vandy and St Thomas, Titans and all. Times change in my 60 odd years, but not so much as not to enjoy a good memory like this.

A fitting effort to give back to Nashville s elder statesmen. He was there when I was born, he was there when I went to the Navy And in light of today, He s here upon my fathers death. Nashville was a wonderous place through it all. That each human have a city or a town that gives them the life memories of importance and prosterity. The decline and the re emergency decade upon decade. That each state does the same in giving capital cities their due. that I may one day venture back into his town his store if another generation does take on the task of great guitars, great bands, and great memories to bring the coming of age young people both heritage and inclusion to the formidable legacy that is country music. Austin in Texas, Dallas too, and the many forms of music of the Shreveport hay ride on forward to the life and times of music in any form that we might find reason to gather to dance, to feel good or just to make another song feel just as good as it did the many years since it was first sang. May music and those much like Mr Gruhn, light our path towards the wonderous life of music, in the playing the singing and even the listening.l That Mr Gruhn enjoy your efforts as well thanks to the Guitar Gatherings. is a good representation of quitar s importance and opportunity. Especially if your love for something does span 3 4 5 generations.

My heart has always loved the guitar, almost since before my first word came out of my mouth. But, in truth, it s the dedication that holds my awe. The guitar takes a lot of doing. Always will. Heaven and he'll in one indeavor.

I'm saving up for a Godin Kingpin with one p90 .... and F holes and the raised pick guard , which I will probably unscrew....on the surface ,so similar to what are on show here...I want a raw wood or at a push a cognac burst ...though that's best drunk rather than painted ... second hand I am hoping 350-400 pounds... I reckon it's right up Georges street...affordable modern F hole Godins any good George!?

Trogly I can tell you with all certainty your “Hippo” is in fact a double built guitar that started life in Kalamazoo and was born in Nashville there was a lot of that happening back then my brother who was a public safety officer in kalamazoo at the time told me at the end when Gibson was moving inventory a lot of the stuff made out the back door an Pete Moreno told me that a lot of the custom stuff was still being done in Kalamazoo as far as the 90s in fact some of the custom engraving is still done by a lady from the old factory that didn’t move I don’t know her myself by the guys at Heritage and my teacher Pete and my other instructors Aaron and Steve all use her for engraving I believe her name is Beverly but anyway they all worked at Gibson Kalamazooand I know they still work with them on some special stuff especially personalized instruments or one off as you call and and I’m sure your hippo is one of those double build

I really love the old guitarist the one from the 1850s. Just think that somebody was playing that guitar when it was contemporary to Abraham Lincoln Ulysses s plans Sherman Tecumseh all these people from the civil war it's just amazing from before the civil war that music was being made on those guitars baldo's people contemporary to its being new or alive on this Earth and breathing please excuse any typos misspelled words etc I'm not a bad typo I'm not even a literate or though my friends like to say I am. I am legally blind I'm using speech to text with loss and says and does it wants to. Thank you sincerely, Bob the blind bedroom guitarist

Amazing knowledge. However, I do think he is guilty of overstating the sound quality of vintage acoustic guitars. When he is able to consistently identify a vintage guitar at say $50k vs a well constructed modern guitar at say $5k when both he and the player do not know which guitar is being played/heard and every other variable is held constant, I will be a believer. I got into a discussion with him about this over email one time, and while I applaud that he corresponds with customers, became quite defensive. It was a bit jarring and an eye opener as to what might be going on in this world. Not that old rare guitars are not valuable, I’m just not convinced any of that value is driven by sounding “better” than a comparable, younger guitar.

It is the nostalgia and history of the instrument that commands the prices, along with guys who have more money than sense. I’m not saying some vintage guitars aren’t great, sound wise, but are all pre war Martins $45k better than the new D45? No…I completely agree with you.
