A false rumor has been circulating for years that George Reeves, who played Sgt. Maylon Stark in From Here to Eternity, had his role drastically edited after preview audiences recognized him as TV's Adventures of Superman (1952). According to director Fred Zinnemann, screenwriter Daniel Taradash and assistant director Earl Bellamy, the rumor is false. Every scene written for Reeves' character was filmed, and each of those scenes is still present in its entirety in the film as released.

I also read another article where Reeves was almost shot by a fan. A little boy with a luger who wanted to see if bullets would hurt him. Luckily at that time he was able to convince the boy the bullets would've hurt him. That was a really tense monent for him staring down the barrel of that Luger pistol.

I remember this well. While I was only 8 yrs old at the time, Superman was my favorite show and Inreally admired George. He seemed to be a great role model. When we heard the news of his death, all the kids were devastated. Regrettably, Reeves lived a wild life. Quite opposite of his TV role. I'm guessing there was foul play. He had Lenore Lemmons, Toni Mannix and Eddie Mannix all mad at him. His car had been tampered with and he was almost killed when his brakes failed. Sad way to end his life. I don't believe he killed himself. But will we ever know?

I disagree with the way George's movie career is trivialized. One would think he was only ever in two good films - "Gone with the Wind" & "From Here to Eternity". He was in a lot of good films. He started off with bit parts and starring roles in B-pictures but into the early '40s he was getting sizable roles in A-pictures e.g "Lydia" with Merle Oberon and "So Proudly We Hail" with Claudette Colbert. In the Colbert film George was her romantic lead. After that picture, its director Mark Sandrich promised to make George a star. Unfortunately George was drafted & when he got out Sandrich had died & he had to start at the bottom again. By the early '50s his roles in A- pictures started to get bigger again, e.g "The Blue Gardenia". The Superman took off & his movie career was over. As for his death, I believe all the suspicious circumstances, as pointed out, rule out suicide. It wouldn't surprise me if someone had tried to make it look like suicide, to hide the truth. With all the inconsistencies, it probably rules out a professional hit man. It was an amateurish attempt to cover up, which suggests either Lenore or Toni. Possible scenario is that Lenore was drunk & had a fight with George. A few shots were fired & George tried to take the gun from her. Gun went off accidentally, killing George. Lenore & friends tried cover it up. Another possibility is that Toni paid George a visit. Similar course of events. Because Toni's husband was 'connected', Lenore & friends were afraid, & acted peculiar as a result. Eddie could have pulled strings with the police to protect his wife, hence the rushed investigation result. He might have also 'leaned' on the investigator hired by George's mother. [Funny how he suddenly backed away.] Part of Toni's resulting grief could have been because she accidentally killed the man she really loved. Whatever happened, we will never know.

Good video. I've read a lot about this story but despite the different explanations for no fingerprints, lack of powder burns, etc. the three biggest mysteries in this case are: 1) how the casing was found on the bed under George's back when the lugar expells the casing in the opposite direction...unless it bounced off of someone standing in front of George, 2) the angle of the bullet through his head into the ceiling has George falling onto the floor, no way he falls back onto the bed and 3) Lenore called the top mobster lawyer in NY as soon as it happened and then waited 45 minutes before calling the police and the stories from all 4 in the house matched exactly...that never happens. And yes to a comment below, George had broken off their engagement that night as confirmed by witnesses at the lounge they were at earlier in the evening. So many items that don't match or line up. Sad ending for an upstanding guy who hated the job but gave it his all because of the effect on children. Good job on the video.

Jack Larson who played Jimmy Olsen also thought George Reeves was murdered, because George recently told Jack he was looking forward doing a 7th season of THE ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN. That's what happens when you get involved with shady people in Hollywood being a target for anything. If George Reeves never died, I bet he would have been asked to star in other Sci-Fi series such as Professor John Robinson in LOST IN SPACE and maybe others. The only thing is, he would have been a little old for a lead character being he was 45 in 1959 when he was killed.

He crashed his car and got a head injury. After that he began having depression, which he tried to medicate with alcohol, a depressant, making his depression worse. His mother had lied to him and told him his father killed himself by shooting himself with a hand gun. He was having career disappointment. He was unhappy with his new wife. He killed himself with a gun that ejected the spent cartridge and he fell back on top of it, leading amateur detectives to suspect foul play. The guy who played Jimmy Olsen said he believed it instantly because they were in the same situation, they got tiny money for Superman but it type cast them and ruined their acting careers.

Reeves was upset with Lenore Lemon. He wanted the party to end, but she did not. He d had to get up early. The music was loud He couldn't sleep. He was anger he went downstairs and told Lenore to get out of his house the party was over, and turned down the music at which Lenore turned it back up and the he went back upstairs. Lenore followed. There was anger words between them, at which Reeves wanted her out of his house and he told her not to come back. She grabbed the gun and shot him in the head from a couple of feet away. She wiped her prints off the gun and went downstairs and asked everyone to say she was downstairs when the shot was heard. She told the police that George was very upset and was threatening to kill himself. She came downstairs and told everyone that George said he was going to kill himself, and moments later they heard a gun shot. Lenore killed him because she was drunk and angery because he broke up with her and told her to get out.

I think Leonore Lemmon did it, or had Bob Bliss do it. George had grown tired of her loudmouth ways and didn't want to marry her. Toni & Eddie liked him. Toni loved him...obsessively... but she wanted him back. Eddies wife would not have wanted George killed, and he wouldn't have broken his wifes heart. Definitely Leonore or Bob for her.
