I think Sandor is the most relatable character in the book. He is pretty much a nobody, except that he is big, strong, and good at killing. His redemption ark was really very enjoyable to read. He starts out with an apparent lack of morals, but the struggles of protecting the Stark girls slowly chips away at his heart of stone. Rory McCann did such a great job playing Sandor.

I think whats most important about Sandor is that he is very intelligent, despite not being highly educated like most of the lords and their sons. Not in a sence of "professor of quantum-physics" intelligent. But because he was on the "backline" most of the time, he had time to see, evaluate and think. His grumpy demeanor is more of a fasade, to fool the ones that can get rid of him just because they were born into slightly more importand house. He knows when to act, and when to back off. Knows what he can and he cant do. Sure, he has some ideals and you can see it. But he also knows that dying for some ideals is not worth it, if you can wait things out. I wonder how would the political game of the series turn out, if he would be one of the main "players".
@karltanner39533 жыл бұрын
@@alexxander9428 They probably meant a nobody compared to most characters the story revolves around. Sandor is not a knight, nor is he the heir to his family's fortunes. He's the second son, so he must seek his fortunes elsewhere. Writing this I realized that the mercenary company "Second Sons" is named that just because of the same reason. They are not the inheritors of wealth, so they take up a life of sellswordsmanship.

He didn't make any side look good and didn't paint himself as a hero nor victim. He didn't care to look good, nor was he bound by an ideology or hatred. He has seen the most terrible things and nearly died on multiple occasions, but visited his former enemy for fun. Meanwhile, I've met people who continued to bear a grudge against their former enemies two generations later. He might have been a psychopath, but compared to the latter people, I think better of him. Seriously, I know someone who nearly had his fingers cut off because of the sins of his ancestors! Personally, I had to see as a kid our car getting deglassed because we had the _wrong_ license plate... That was more than half a century after the frigging war ended!

People complain about how long George is taking to write these books and for a while I was the same and I don’t blame them for how they feel but... With how much depth and story he gives you, about how basically every side C-F tier character in his books have stories that are interesting enough to be whole novels in thier own right, especially after I have been trying to write myself, I more then understand why it’s taken him so long. I mean seriously characters I’d write and forget about as soon as they aren’t serving the story get their own entire sub plots that for most writers, would just be a novel/Novella unto themselves. It’s seriously mind blowing.
@TomBombadil732 жыл бұрын
So how did he write the first books then? What are you talking about? He got super rich and famous from the shitty HBO series. There’s no need to search for the reason when it’s staring you in the face.

The best character of the series for me, bc he doesn't care for changing the world nor does he expect it to change, he sees and accepts humanity for the shit that it is and always will be and doesn't sees himself as an exception, bc he knows what he is, knows that he's no better, and ironically that alone makes him an exception, he doesn't make false expectations, and he doesn't seek power or empty titles, but still he's willing to defend what he believes is still good, even if he doesn't want to.

@Raymond Sims but being honest, that is how he is preceived in westeros as well, everybody think that he is just an asshole with no feelings, but sandor isnt a complete dick, even tough he is rough around the edges, he does hate bullies who abuse innocent people (even tough he, himself, have done it a few times)

Sandor may have never been a knight, but he is the sole reason the Clegane name even held any shred of honor. Given the right circumstances and an upbringing that didn’t stifle his moral growth, Sandor could have been the living definition of a "good man."

Sandor isn't buying into the hypocrisy. He knows he's a scary guy, and uses that to push people away, a mental defense-mechanism developed by the trauma indured at the hands of his family. He talks about grape, but he's never shown doing it, nor second hand accounts of him graping anyone. The Hound has a heart.

The reason i always loved the Hound both in the series and the books is because he, despite all his flaws and and deep seated anger, is still a protector (of women) at heart. He could've easily kidnapped and r-worded Sansa during the blackwater, or done similar things to Arya, yet chose not to.

The Hound in the books is a great character, and one I truly didn't want to see on screen. I didn't think there was any way an actor could do him justice. Then Rory... Rory was one of those perfect castings. If it's even possible, he may have made the character better than the books. Truly, we would not be talking about it still if anyone else had done the role.
