So there is a bit of a back story to Murder on Music Row. There was an awards show a year or so before this that George Jones was to perform on but the music executives wouldn’t let him do the whole song, just a line or two because they gave the time to the new artists to perform. Allen Jackson was also scheduled to perform one of his new songs on the show but when he came out he sang George Jones song instead of his own. Classy move on his part. Basically gave the executives the middle finger. So there is where the line about the Possum in the song comes from.

George Strait in the 80’s and Alan Jackson in the 90’s were the two artists that single-handedly kept traditional, western swing, honky tonk country alive. George Strait is considered The King because of this. Country in the 80’s went Pop and in the 90’s reverted back to neo-traditional styles which created some of the biggest stars the genre has ever had. All because of George Strait. Also, “Music Row” is 16th Avenue in Nashville where hundreds of country artists recorded their classic songs.

Back in 1992 or so, George Strait starred in a movie "Pure Country" about a country artist who had moved into the smoke and fire special effects, etc., type of entertainment. It was bugging him so one day he went AWOL and went back to his old home place and the small roadhouse where he got his start. His grandma told him she liked it better when he just sat down with his guitar and sang, which is what he eventually did when he got back with the band. There's much more to this movie, but it seems a lot like what "Murder On Music Row" is about. All those who saw, for example, Garth Brooks concerts with the crashing guitars, fire and smoke, flying around on wires over the crowd, etc., get what they're talking about here.

George Strait and Alan Jackson are pure country. There are some current singers/bands I like (Chris, Blake, Zack Brown Band for example) but there are some that skate the edge of country music in an attempt to attract country fans when they are actually pop. And hey, there are a lot of pop artist that I like. But when it comes to country, I find myself mostly listen to the old school stuff (Johnny Cash, George Jones, Dolly) and listening to a lot of late 80's and 90's country. And the difference between then and now is very noticeable. Mr. George Jones was The Possum. I suggest 'Midnight In Montgomery' by Alan Jackson. As for George Strait "All My Ex's Live In Texas" is a fun song. I think you will enjoy it.

His Tour is, “ last call, one more for the Road.” Has Health issues and basically told fans that he wont be doing touring forever, dont know if he’s retiring or not, Alan Jackson is my favorite country singer of all time, they both are Country Music Hall of Famers, George became one after he retired I believe, but for someone to be in the Hall of fame still singing, writing music and touring is insane.
