Totally agreed with George Yeo, I say pay attention to the interviewer, when Yeo explained why the Asian don't see Western perspective. The interviewer drifted off looking at the book. Why? He has close his mind, & he didn't want to hear others explanation when he hear something that he doesn't agree. That show why the West are ARROGANT & doesn't want to keep a open mind. I agree with George Yeo view points.

I would have preferred an alternate reality where we are seeing a plausible President George Yeo over President Tharman. And tbh I would have preferred a PM Tharman over PM HSK. George Yeo has a wisdom and understanding of politics and history that holds him in good stead. I don’t think some of our presidential candidates have this kind of knowledge to be able to interact with world leaders on global matters.

The comedian zelensky ruined Ukraine by fighting proxy war for USA when he could simply avoid war by promising not to join Nato.
@AdrianCHOY
@AdrianCHOY 9 ай бұрын
If Ukraine's current choice is to confront Russia, let's consider an alternative approach. Ukraine could opt to join Russia outright. Instead of engaging in conflict or reaching a compromise after resistance, a direct alliance might offer better outcomes. Wouldn't that simplify matters? By aligning with Russia, Ukraine could avoid accumulating debts to the USA and potentially the IMF during post-war reconstruction. It would also prevent Ukraine from being used by NATO in conflicts that don't directly impact them. Currently, Ukraine finds itself embroiled in a war, unwantedly caught between the USA, NATO, and others.

Mr. Yeo is missing the fundamental point: Partitioning Ukraine WILL NOT resolve the conflict in that country. The issue is NOT territory-Russia is already the largest country in the world by geographic area and has all the natural resources it needs in order to prosper. Russia has no economic need for Ukrainian territory. The principal issue that is driving the Ukraine conflict is SECURITY: The United States, with the assistance of its NATO vassals, under the guise of NATO expansion, is using Ukraine to establish a sphere of influence on Russia’s western border and from there, using Ukraine to attack Russia economically (sanctions, embargoes, expulsion from SWIFT payment system, etc.), militarily (NATO funded, equipped and trained Ukrainian army; missiles directed against Russia independence Poland and Romania) and politically (propaganda deluge in Western media). As Zbigniew Brzezinski pointed out in his 1997 Foreign Affairs article “A Geostrategy for Eurasia” and as the RAND Corporation (US Defense Department think tank) pointed out in its 2019 publication “Extending Russia,” the purpose is to destabilize Russia and overthrow the Putin regime so that the West can neutralize Russia as an adversary, gain control over its vast natural resource patrimony, and then use Russia as a platform to attack and contain China. If you have any doubt, look at the map on page 60 of Brzezinski’s article which depicts Russia broken up into a “European Russia,” a “Siberian Russia,” and a Far Eastern Russia.” In other words, the purpose of this conflict is to maintain US global hegemony by breaking up Russia and using Russia as a platform to encircle and constrain China. This is a security issue, not a territory issue. Partitioning Ukraine WILL NOT in any way resolve the conflict. The only way the conflict can be resolved is when the United States is forced to accept that it is no longer the global hegemon, that global power is now multipolar and that the US economy has to adjust to that reality. Unfortunately and sadly, it will probably take a world war and the deaths of millions, if not billions, of people and massive destruction of infrastructure for a new, stable geopolitical equilibrium to be reached.

I agree with George Yeo. But the question really remains - why does Putin insist on using force instead of doing proper negotiations with Ukraine, EU or even NATO? What this means is that before anything, since history till now, Russia has already adopted a very adversarial stance in its foreign policies. We do not need to negotiate with leaders or countries who take world peace and country boundaries lightly. If it takes a world war to put these sort of leaders and regimes in their right place, so be it.

A personal opinion I'd throw out for the sake of discussion: warfare and diplomacy are both sides of the same coin. Consider this: 1) The whole point of diplomacy is for a country to get what it wants from another with words. 2) The whole point of warfare is the same, except it's with force. 3) Countries are generally assumed to be rational actors, hence it will always use diplomacy first because it's always less risky to use words than to use force. 4) If all avenues of diplomacy fails, then two options remain: either the issue at hand is not worth the effort and they back down, or the issue is serious enough that backing down is not an option, hence they turn to war. That Russia resorted to war implies that they have already exhausted diplomatic options, and whatever issue that is aggravating them is grave enough that they can't back down. Hence the war. IIRC, Channel News Asia published a piece date 8 Mar 2023, quoting Singapore Minister of Home Affairs, K. Shanmugam, regarding his opinion on the war. He did give a brief overview of Russia's history with the west: Russia genuinely did try to engage with NATO diplomatically, even as late as 2010 under Dmitry Medvedev, but they were consistently not taken seriously and their concerns brushed aside. Fast forward 10+ years with no real success in diplomacy, and their concerns are grave enough, they have no choice but to wage war.

@@Blaze7296 NATO was precisely created to guard against Russia or then Soviet Union. NATO did not bother Russia at all - it is a defense union. It did not expand or invade Russia. People who are saying "Nato expansion" are not correct as it is not NATO which is expanding, but more countries joining NATO. And why do more countries join NATO - the latest being Finland and Sweden? AGAIN, it is precisely to stay guarded against a country like Russia. The world better be prepared that one day Russia really acts aggressively towards other countries. It is not a matter of if, but a matter of when. That's the real test of NATO as an organisation - how fast will they be able to put Russia out of action militarily.
@pila1280
@pila1280 Жыл бұрын
Putin did try to negotiate but NATO ignored him. Even for the past year, they are not able to negotiate to end the war because NATO and Ukraine refused to give in. Negotiate needs compromise. If neither side is willing to give in, war is inevitable.
