Always had facial hair, as well as all the men in my family, but it's only been since my retirement that I have let it grow. I just past my first year without trimming the beard and loving it! It's amazing the compliments that I receive from both men and women since I let it grow and flow. I especially like the looks and stares I get from the little children who think I'm that jolly old elf himself! Thanks for the encouragement to keep it growing!

Nice talk. I've been in health care for over 20 years and recently retired. I've had hair down to my A$$ and really short, but always kept the beard short for work. I've missed having a long beard. It's about 4" long now, was about to give in to trimming it some and you just talked me out of it. Thanks!

Awesome beard. Awesome video. I’ve been growing for 18 months and trimming the sides. I do regret that. Now I’m growing my sides out with plans to only trim (fast growers) from the bottom hopefully 3 or 4 years down the line I’ll be making my own videos. You are right. You’ve got to put the time in.

When I did a beard reboot, I got rid of the razors and trimmers. I don't even trim my mustache (personal preference). I want my beard to grow as long as it can for at a minimum of 1 year. I've learned from you and other youtubers that trimming it is counter productive to my goal. When it is time to trim, however, I don't think there are any beard smith's where I live. So, I'm not sure what I'll do at that point. I'll just cross that bridge when I get there. I've got a little under 6 more months to go.
@Clogmonger7 жыл бұрын
I really needed this today. my beard is about 8months old, about half your length. problem is that it's getting very thin on the edges and I'm dying to trim it down and get it more thick and even looking. My beard looks fine, the trim isn't really necessary. I'm getting close to my goals and this video is a big help.

The 2 best stylists I have ever met are water and gravity. I do not have a comb and the brush is used only a little on the sides. I get the Greek statue sculpted look with many rivers of flowing hair together in harmony. A low heat and blow sets the hair around my mouth only. Quite the natural way to go.

I've been guilty for a while now in trying to keep things neat and tidy, getting the sides of the beard trimmed and just as you're saying in this video, it's sticking out constantly and I have to admit I have days where it drives me nuts. I've decided about a month ago to stop getting the beard trims, usually I'd get it done when I'm getting the top done. The beard is starting to come together better for it. I've starting making my own balm to keep the sides down while I'm transitioning into the longer length. I'll be reducing the amount of balm I'll be using once it starts to stay down on it's own when gravity kicks in. Really enjoy your videos dude. Keep em coming.

I love your beard sir I am looking forward to getting mine at long
@catalinemerich25447 жыл бұрын
I've never been able to go past a certain lenght without trimming it because it get's to shallow (don't know it that's the propper word) at the edge and you can see through it. I've come to think that each individual has a certain length at with his beard looks thick and good. Don't know it it's true or not, but for me, it's the explanation that works. Also, the sides are way to curly to let grow out, for my personal confort, because I like having a beard, a rather big beard...but I will not sacrifice too much time out of each day to straghten it out as it grows, and I'd rather trim it to an easly maintainable lenght...but it's just personal opinion. Other than that, I think what you're saying makes perfect sense for whoever wants the big/epic beard look.

This is the most helpful and obvious beard advice I have ever heard! Of course it makes sense to not trim your beard if the goal is to grow it. It always sounds nonsensical when someone tells me to trim your beard to shape it and allow it to grow "fuller". That is the worst advice I have ever heard because you're just making your beard short again and making it even longer of a wait to grow longer. "You can't trim your way to a big beard". Amen brotha!

this was great advice that i much needed. I have a 4 month beard. longest i grew in the past was a 14 monther. but i trimmed several strays because i was younger and didnt know. I am 33 now and just letting it go. im most happy with my mustache right now. the sides i have always been a little self concious about. they are thinner.. not terrible. but thinner. also my one side grows the opposite direction like you mentioned of yours. patience is seriously key. aside from genetics of course. ive been debating on just running a long cowboy style mustache but i think i will let it go another couple months and see how i feel after the 6 month marker. Thanks again.

Thanks George. I've been following your videos for three months and my beard is looking great. My question is how do you respond to family, friends and co-workers who make comments that seem kidding yet negative? It's not just the growth of my beard, its the growth of my patience and character that changed and this seems to unsettle people. Can you offer any witty comebacks that won't offend?
@boomdizzil7 жыл бұрын
Awesome! Started my quest for length in January before I saw any of your vids and lately I have been agonizing over the question of late: "To trim or not to trim." I want to agree with your philosophy but unfortunately I have a job and I need to keep the mane reasonably tame. I have purchased the BB styling balm and it does work wonders with unruly course hair. Very much worth the money if you want to keep the wildness under control during the work week. Good stuff sir! You are the wind beneath my beard, er, that's just wrong.

Glad I ran across this video. "Let go of the obsession". Going for the big beard again. Mine is unfathomably dense..and tight curls. The ONLY trimming I have done is my mustache (for the same reasons..eating & drinking & my significant other) and along the very back of my jawline by my ears (seems to grow these weird wings I can't stand) which also gives it a nice bit of shape. Other than that...no trimming. Sad to see you've cut the big beard since this was released. I appreciate the time you take to put out these videos.

Great video as always! I finally decided to grow a big beard myself this year and haven't shaved since Christmas. I made the unfortunate mistake of visiting a barber shop after three months and decided I could use a little trim since I was getting pretty scruffy well after I got to the car I was absolutely horrified at how much they " trimmed". Probably set me back a month or more. Needless to say I wish I had found your channel before that decision. I will not make that mistake again and hopefully when I am finally ready I can make the trip to PA and have you take care of it as I don't think I could ever trust anyone else!!!

At the end of the month I’ll be at 6 months. The only thing I trimmed is my mustache which I regret. My beard is still very patchy and I think it looks terrible. I’m probably just going to get it shaped once I hit my 6 months because I just want a nice and tight beard that doesn’t really hang off my face but if I get it trimmed I’ll be going back to the beginning again
