When I started fasting, few years back, I did 16hrs a day for a week. 18hrs for the next two weeks. From there, jumped to 24hr once a week over the next month (the rest being 18). Finally did 72hrs at the end of month two, beginning on a Thursday evening at 7pm and ending 7pm on Sunday. The first 24hrs of it were the trickiest (harder than a standalone 24hrs), most likely a mental block as I knew I was only into the first day of three. Slept very well the Friday, woke up early feeling refreshed. About halfway through the Saturday had a slight out of body experience early afternoon. Not unsettling, just quite dreamy - a kind of high. No hunger or cravings at all. Spent the Saturday slow cooking a bone broth (took 24hrs to prepare). Broke the fast at 7pm sunday with the bone broth - great for restoring gut health. At 8pm Sunday had a bowl of steamed veggies and fish. Best meal ever, really. Went off to work the Monday, and at around 4pm, when I'd usually start feeling the end of day slump, I started feeling restless at the desk. Realized I had a ridiculous amount of energy. Got up from the desk, left the building, and felt the need to run down the road like a f*cking madman. Wasn't even dressed for it. Jeans and shirt. But had to use that energy somehow. Honestly, the whole experience was pretty powerful. That was the first time, about two years ago. Barring a bit of a sloppy period during 2020 lockdown, still maintaining an 18hrs a day and 24hr once a week fasting schedule (occasionally broken by a night out here and there, not gonna say no to an occasional night of beer and BBQ wings with mates) and gearing up for another 72hrs end of Feb. Best thing about it all, fasting had made me love food more than ever. It's an event. It's something to really enjoy, rather than mindlessly shovel in. And if I'm on a long flight with shitty options, no qualms about passing. Hitting 40 in May and, no bullsh*t, feeling better than I did in my 20s.

Been doing a 48 hr plus fast the past few days. It definitely feels good, seems good for recovery and inflammation and the studies back that up. I’ve been doing fasting and intermittent fasting along with time restricted eating for years now. How it is possible to fast and in the same time be able to perform psychical activity? Every time I try this I observe less performance on my endurance training: lifting, speed intervals while running, even on long runs I feel tired compared when I am eating 2k-2.5k calories per day. Not to mention lesser performance on cognitive functions. Do you guys ingest supplements in order to be able to resist on intense workouts?

Diet is extremely important. I think it’s extremely dangerous to think that eating junk food in your 20s will not affect your 30s and onwards. Also, what you eat directly correlate with your libido, energy levels, etc. Just no reason to avoid diet while being an athlete.

Lex mentions an interesting thing at the end: that they're discussing their observations on the impact of diet among elite athletes. I guess it's quite possible that a common attribute among these guys is that their digestive system and metabolism are just super performant. Maybe people who don't have the ability to digest and metabolize food the way they do simply never make it to the top of the pyramid.
@chubbs3741
@chubbs3741 2 жыл бұрын
Most healthy people could train to an elite/semi-elite level with dedication and consistency. Genetics can dictate how a person’s body responds/recovers to exercise and their “ceiling” of performance. You also have to remember elite athletes are typically surrounded by exercise physiologists, psychologists, dietitians, etc. Their training and recovery is professionally optimized.
@Dedicated_.1
@Dedicated_.1 2 жыл бұрын
I don’t think athletes necessarily have outperforming digestive systems. I mean the operative factors are there ‘external’ body and their mind. Any digestive connection would be very indirect at best. Although I don’t deny the gut as important, there are factors that make this one seem diminutive and not causally significant.
@TotallyJoel
@TotallyJoel 2 жыл бұрын
Funny thing is that people who are overweight or above have metabolisms that work harder because most of the time they are eating at much more of a frequency and the body tries to compensate for it.

What Danaher said applies outside MMA. Basketball Players like Shaquille O'Neal for example. Shaq ate Big Macs and would drop 50 points and 20 rebounds on his opponents. However, as he got older, his athleticism waned faster than players like LeBron James for example, and his last few years in the league were not that productive.
@theexpanse9568
@theexpanse9568 2 жыл бұрын
I think Danaher makes a good point near the end. I have friends who do high competition athletics and almost all of them eat like shit but still perform incredibly well. Then I have friends who count every calorie and macro and are not nearly as good. I wonder if it’s mainly genetics or mindset.
@beachball240
@beachball240 2 жыл бұрын
diet definitely plays a role but it’s not as big as putting in the work. also genetics. peoples body’s will process food differently. if you’re stress free you can pretty much process most types of food to a certain extent. if your stressed out, almost no food will process when in your body

I share my experience of 3 months carnivore-like keto-ish with intense weights lifting and no cardio at all. I eat once a day and that meal is around half a kilo of meat (beef, chicken or pork and i absolutely never remove any amount of fat, none, i eat it all) and a damn big portion of animal fat (i almost never use butter, i use lard instead). I also eat 10 whole eggs/week, i would eat many more yet good ones are expensive for me. Once a week my meat intake is organ meat. I make heart one week, liver the other, kidney the other and all over again. Also every week i prepare a big pot of bone broth with which i finish cooking almost every day my meal. And of course i always drink any remains of fat/collagen from the pan after cooking. I also eat a considerable amount of semi raw bone marrow. Veggies: 0-3 times a week i add onions, garlic and maybe carrots, but that's about all the veggies i get. I don't use a lot and also not every week. It's more like a rare treat. Sometimes i get some blue cheese, parmesan/pecorino romano/etc, kefir and even whole milk sometimes. But it's totally not something i do every day nor every week. SOME weeks i might get a few fruits like bananas, an apple or two and some grapes but it's only if i feel desire from them. I've been doing that for 3 months already, it changed my life and physique TOTALLY. I sleep way better, i never feel tired, my strength has increased massively, my skin looks better, i totally feel more alive AND I don't wanna say how much weight I lost cause people wont believe it yet it was A DAMN FUCKING LOT and it was all fat and liquid. Also my muscles are on peak now, i train very hard (heavy duty technique, which in case someone doesn't know is not about lifting heavy) and it takes me only 1-2 days to recover, instead of 5-6. I have done bodybuilding in the past and i was in monster-like incredibly good shape, i know what i am talking about when i say that this recovery time is beyond comprehension. It's as if i was was on juices if you know what I mean. I can totally feel my testosterone having increased a damn fkn loooooot. Aggression, insane recovery time, the friend down there, strength. Also, yet this has always been like that, my inmune system is strong AF and i absolutely never get sick even tho i walk with shirt in 5°C (haven't been sick in most of my life. The worse i can get is a headache after a hard day at the office, which i pass simply sleeping a bit more that day). Off the diet, yet i also try to avoid chemicals from stuff, i won't give details, just think for yourself, does this cooking device have anything weird? If yes, i don't use it. Example? Iron pan, wooden spoon, clay cup, etc. Cleaning stuff, medicine, hygiene, etc? Same approach, just won't give the details :) I totally believe this is how we are meant to eat. Try it out

If by ‘hang over’ you really mean still drunk then yes greasy food will thicken the blood and absorb excess alcohol. If by hang over you mean a traditional hangover of dehydration and mineral loss caused by the excessive alcohol then you need electrolytes, a banana, and some probiotics. Then eat something substantial after another few hours.

for anyone who thinks that guy in the tight shirt is right about not seeing a noticeable improvement in change of diet. Dont listen to that. Long time pasta and BLT eater here. I went 80% meat 20% veggies for 3 months and felt a bit better. Then went 100% carnivore and after a WEEK i could get up and move around better, i could move without pain. i Could perform better at work, way more awake, and most importantly to me, my mood i was a jolyl happy guy at work and my boss noticed and gave me a raise. After complimenting me on my overall moral. Im not saying the diet give you raises lol but it CAN contribute to better things. Also im a bigger guy so its gonna help me improve more than an athlete. But dude watch DR anthony Chaffee. hes built like the hulk and is all carnivore. Seriously. eat nothing but salad for a few months... then eat nothing but good meat for a few months and there is a huge difference. The guy is delusional
