Hi George a great video, I worked on a farm in Scotland that ran a slatted krone round baler and it was a great bit of kit, if you could arrange a demo I think it would make a great video to see the comparison

We have a few surplus dealers here in the US that have the military Unimogs available. They have a front loader bucket, and rear mounted digger. It is also equipped for use with hydraulic and air tools (speed for the engineers). That would be nice on the farm for feeding livestock and some earth moving/maintenance/lot cleaning jobs. I think they have been selling mostly to plumbers and contractors.

Brilliant video again mate, I drove a ford forward control in 1979 from new spreading lime and general farm work could get the oil boiling if it was a hot day, had to put a cooler on, have a good weekend mate

Krone round balers are very noisy so that puts some people off. One thing about the slats though is they don't slip on wet grass like belts, and unlike rollers you can vary the bale size. Down side though is they chitter while working.
@brenttonks42492 жыл бұрын
Totally agree with you Adam, I owned a Vario Pack Krone baler, made a nice bale no matter what you threw at it. My only criticism apart from the noise was how the gearbox had a clutch on it to disengage the chains when unloading. If you didn’t throttle the tractor back to idle when closing the tailgate the gearbox wouldn’t re engage and when it did the shock when it used to engage would cause the key ways to wear on the drive sprockets and shafts. A lot of guys told me they were slow but my PB was 58 5 foot cereal bales an hour baling behind a centre delivery Rotor rake. I sold it with around 50,000 bales on it and brought a McHale.

It’s surprising how big those krone balers are. I had the contractor come and bale 4 band bales last summer. It dwarfed me trac lol

Didn't NH have a slatted baler 30 yrs ago ago before the 640,650 baler ,think it was a 835,865 as models
@johndeere72452 жыл бұрын
First balers in the 70s up to the 640s were all bar slats, the early style had floor chains as well instead of the starter roll. I have baled a bunch of hay with the old New Hollands. Chain wear is the biggest issue, they don't wear too bad in hay and straw, but anything with a little grit eats those chains, the old floor chains were very temperamental about hay moisture, the starter roll balers will bale higher moisture hay. Never lack a place for your used oil, always oiling chains. I do like the concept better than belts though, I think Krone had the right idea with the belt and bars, they don't build up chaff nearly as badly as a belt will.

If one's gonna turn a County into a Forward-Control, they might as well just start from scratch. Maybe then they'd get something that can actually turn lol.

George the slats roll 👌 perfectly I'm not a big fan but they do a great job. We use belts and I prefer them for our operation because we can fix them in the field quickly and get back at it . I have watched some videos of the slats going though and it is impressive
